This is one of my favorite Beethoven sonatas. Nobody has played it better. Not Ashkenazy. Not Brendel. Not Arrau. Congratulations Val on a fabulous performance! You are at the top of the class.
This is your piece Valentina. I feel that this performance is the definitive performance. Every note you played spoke. Beautiful, loaded with sadness and an unspoken courage. Thank you so much.
Thank God for Beethoven. This sonata is a marvel, beyond comprehension. Valentina Lisitsa brings out nuances I've never heard before, and it's been many years since I first heard this work. Thank you Valentina!
Your PASSIONATE playing brings out what Beethoven had in mind...reaching the heavens..... thank you so much! You are an angel to bring this music to us....
That third movement is my favorite Beethoven, I listened to every interpretation I could get my ears on and I like yours best. Really, thank you, thank you, this is absolutely beautiful.
Beethoven was a marvelous musical story teller and you excel in bringing that out in this sonata . The voices are clear, distinct and truthful . This is music at its finest .
Bravo !
miss Valentina ..what an incredible interpretation ...many thanks...i marvel to think how Beethoven conceived this in his mind ..its so awesome ,powerful and timeless ...
I've always enjoyed your performances of this Sonata on RU-vid (especially the GoPro version a couple of years ago) but nothing compares to the live performance you gave a couple of months ago at Monkton Combe which I was fortunate to witness. The way you played that opening Arpeggio Mysterioso was unforgetable. It hung there resonating in the stillness and total silence of the recital room and everybody was left wondering what is coming next. It is moments like these that makes you appreciate the profundity and the wonder of great music. Thank you for giving us this insight. Your performance was truly magnificent.
Dear Valentina! I don't know whether it is the Beethoven sonata or your truly perfect interpretation, in any case, both make me deeply overjoyed when I listen to it, if not addicted, I have to listen to it listen to it again and again. Thank you a thousand times over for performing it here on RU-vid. You are truly brilliant! Sorry for my bad english.
Thank you for a most wonderful performance, Valentina. Listening to this beautiful music helped me to forget my worries about what is happening all over the world!
Never heard so many details in this sonata... Not a surprise but nevertheless... Surprisingly beautifull combination valentina & beethoven... Thank you Valentina
Thanks for sharing the video! Love seeing the whole studio, too. You play it exactly how I hear it in my head! The tone quality you have on the first theme is marvelous. This piece rages with such stormy energy! Excellent rendition.
Liebe Valentina!
Dear Valentina, you've been my piano idol since I found your videos when I was 10 years old. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear you play. Thank you for so much music!
Dear god, what an extraordinary interpretation. Frightening, seductive, gentle and kind, and doom laden; you have found a range of emotions and passion in this piece that is simply riveting. I have listened to this repeatedly, hearing new depths to the music each time. Your performance is a huge challenge to the listener, exactly as Beethoven would have wanted.
At 20:26 in the live chat Emmanuel asked 'Why do you name yourself “queen of rachmaninoff”'. Valentina answered in the 5 minute run-out (hidden on replay). So for anyone like me who always wondered: "ValentinaLisitsa @ Emmanuel Nicolaides It came from a young girl in Indonesia, and she even spelled ot wrong "da quin" I thought it was very cute". Perhaps "da quin" might be correct spelling in a local pidgin english or creole?
...I like this version much... much better than the other one!... The one with the small camera whose image makes me dizzy!... And... this dress is much more elegant!...
Whenever she is not in a concert hall to play, and not out in the public at a station or something, where else is she playing at? Like this one and a few others like this? It looks like she is playing before or after a rehearsal, all by herself in the dark. Does anybody know? I love the fact that she plays in different venues, always very unique!! She can play any where on any piano (such street piano). Amazing pianist!!
Dear Valentina, Every time you post a new piece on RU-vid I never finish it through the end the first time as I rush to send it to my piano teacher who is Russian and certainly adores you! Thank you for filling up our rooms with your extraordinary Grace. God bless!
Thank you dearly for blessing us all with your art and skill. Videos like yours should always be viral and on TV. I'm mindblown everytime I hear you play!
Beautiful, Supreme & Magnificent Valentina! Thank you! 🎵🌺🐣🔥This current Tempest 👑🦠is required to make this world a better place 🕊🕊🕊Love the Russian doll dress 👏👏👏who knows...some more tiny Valentina’s might come out of it 😘🥰😊🌟🌟🌟🎶🎵🎶
Me entusiasma escucharte admirada Valentina, me transportas a otra dimensión, eres fabulosa y magistral con tu maravilloso virtuosismo, bravo Valentina.
Bravissimo. You show us that Beethoven did not "compose" this. In fact, he discovered something that was there all along, waiting to be revealed. I realize that it demeans you for me to say that you "channel Beethoven". You do something more profound -- you reveal aspects of this ineffable musical edifice that even Beethoven missed the first time around. Each of these is a living breathing being, imprisoned until now. You don't "play" these, or even "perform" them. You breathe life into them, so that they envelop and embrace us. I think this is what I most cherish about this entire Sonata cycle. These are so much more than individual pieces dreamed up, written down, and then repeated verbatim for centuries. You, Valentina, are one of a handful of explorers who delicately unearth these. You brush away the debris and cobwebs, you polish the surfaces until they gleam, then you bring them to life in all their glory for each of us. Please don't stop. Don't stop with Beethoven. Don't let the pandemic stop you. Thank you
