A video walkthrough for Beethoven's Symphony 4 somethingclassical.blogspot.com Performance: Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Sir Charles Mackerras
Thank you for the encouragement. I'm planning on doing all five piano concerti at some point and I will probably do the Emperor next. I'm still finishing a few others first (they take a while as you can imagine) but its on my to do list.
Thanks for watching. As for "wrong mode" what I mean by that is the symphony is supposed to be in Bb Major (or "major mode with Bb as the tonic note") but the first thing Beethoven does is outline a Bb minor chord (or "minor mode with Bb as the tonic note"). So by using minor mode, he is breaking the rules of established Sonata Form by doing what is "wrong". Just another example of how Beethoven liked to bend the rules when self-expression was more important to him. Hope that helps. :)
