The movie was super popular, to the point that it spawned a Saturday morning cartoon. But the weird part about the cartoon is that Beetlejuice was basically Lydia's wacky uncle who took her on spooky adventures and not an antagonist, and the Maitlins were nowhere to be seen.
The musical was honestly a great blend of the two. I’d say it’s my favourite take on the beetlejuice story. With Lydia being a struggling girl who beetlejuice appeals to, and the two actually get along and become friends, but Lydia turns her back on him.
Betelgeuse is actually the name of a star, and the correct pronunciation is “Beetle-juice”, not “Beetle-geis”. Etymologically, it’s derived from an Arabic phrase meaning “the hand of Orion”, which is the constellation Betelgeuse is located in.
Specifically, Betelgeuse is the French spelling for the Arabic phrase "bat al-jawza," which means "shoulder of the giant," referring to the star's position at the "shoulder" of Orion.
Michael Keaton ad-libbed the “Nice f-ing model” line and kicking the tree over as he saw the tree about to fall over on the set. Tim Burton loved it so much he kept it in.
Agreed! We definitely needs a Schitt's Creek reaction series. Apparently it's a difficult show to react to, with copyright strikes and what not, but I would love for them to try.
I’m so excited for the sequel once the actors strike is over. This is such a great movie! Catherine O’Hara is so underrated in this role and she’s amazing! This is a great cast. I’m so happy y’all are watching this! I’m just going to drop my weekly beg for y’all to watch Good Omens......thanks!
I think they just started filming Beetleguise 2. I saw a video that they have went back to all the original locations so it should be a nice continuation of the story.
Beetlejuice is a childhood favorite of mine, but I have never considered it a Halloween movie. I remember people Patreon voting for Edward Scissorhands as Christmastime movie even though that it isn’t a Christmas movie. Not saying there’s anything wrong with watching Beetlejuice during Halloweentime, but I find it interesting how it got labeled as a Halloween movie. The film certainly has some horror elements, but it leans more on the comedic side even though the theme is death and the afterlife. Anyway, great reaction, guys! And love seeing you guys have fun with all of the costumes this spooky season!
Love this movie. The, "nice f***in' model scene was not supposed to happen. It was just Michael Keaton being Michael Keaton. I say it every time I see or hear about something break. 😃😃
Beetlejuice is one of my absolute favorite Tim Burton movies. I can still remember when my sister and I first watched it when we were kids and I actually tried to summon Beetlejuice. We thought he was gonna pop up somewhere, which luckily he didn't.
Betelgeuse (spelled this way) is the name of a large star in the Orion constellation. It can be pronounced a few ways but “Beetlejuice” is one of them.
The part where beetlejuice kicked down the tree wasn’t meant to happen , when the prop fell he went with it and came up with his own words, it was so funny that the Director kept it in the movie 😀 Only thing I hated was that he was barely in the show , the couple was cute but I didn’t really care about them , I wanted more beetlejuice lol I do adore the tv series , BJ was so funny in it and I loved his powers but they also backfired on him if he says the wrong thing 😂 him and Lydia are also only best friends in the tv series , they still kept him pretty gross by hating to bath and he loves eating bugs lol .. but in the tv series he’s very protective of Lydia , she’s truly the most important person to BJ and he won’t let anyone hurt her or even upset her The cartoon series does take out the couple but I didn’t care 😂 and her parents are different , her mother is still into art but she’s pretty clueless and often pretty dumb 😅 , I believe she’s also her mother not step mom and her dad is a big chicken who BJ loves scaring 😂
I remember my mom playing this movie every October/halloween when I was a kid. Definitely miss those days, glad you guys reacted to this classic Tim Burton film 🫶🏻
I can’t believe you guys have never seen this….it’s a cult classic but then again I grew up with this movie I have about 10-15 years on you guys! I hope you love it
I always thought it was spelled Betelguese because there seems to be some rule that he can't actually tell you his name himself so he spells it similarly in the hope that you will pronounce it like Beetlejuice.
Its supposed to be spelled Betelguese, like the star, pronounced Beetle-juice. The cover art is actually misspelled on purpose because Warner Bros. thought people wouldn't pronounce it correctly and wanted Tim Burton to name the movie something else but he refused. They compromised by changing the spelling on the title but not in the movie 🙂
The thing about this movie is that it is just sooooo much fun!! The late 80s/early 90s were such a wild time to be a kid when it came to entertainment. While Beetlejuice isn’t necessarily a “kids movie” I _would_ call it a “family film”. (There was also a spin off Beetlejuice cartoon that aired on Saturday mornings, which was obviously for kids and, kinda surprisingly, ran for like 3 years.) Only in this time period will you find a “family film” that deals with a *ton* of death, a fair amount of pretty in your face sexual innuendo and what not, AND a good ol’ f-bomb thrown in there for good measure. (Who knew you could say “fucking” in a PG rated movie? Not me!) LOL. “Family films” today could NEVER! Hahaha. (But I mean… rightfully so though!) Anyway, in conclusion, in my opinion, Beetlejuice is fucking *fire* and I am SO glad that you guys seemed to really enjoy it!!
I don't think you guys noticed Adam was listening to Harry Belafonte in the beginning while holding the spider. Sad fact Harry Belafonte died this summer actually.
Beetlejuice, Addams Family, Edward Scissorhands, Little Monsters, Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Gremlins, The Witches, Casper, Ghostbusters, E.T., Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Tales from the Crypt etc were my favorites movies/shows as a kid. I also had the entire book collections of Goosebumps, R.L. Stine and Scary Stories to tell in the Dark. And my parents wonder why I grew up to be the weird adult I am today 🤣 Born in 1984 I was raised on creepy/scary...great time to be a kid 🙃
This movie is so nostalgic for me. I watch it every year with my dad who is a huge Tim Burton fan. Can’t wait to carry on the tradition with my son when he gets a little older 🥰
If you fine fellas haven’t already checked it out, another late 80s/early 90s family film that’s absolutely PERFECT for this time of year is 1995’s _”Casper”_ starring Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman, with basically a cameo of one of my BIG time childhood crushes, Devon Sawa. Now, it has been many, _many_ years since I’ve last seen it, but I’m pretty sure I _was_ an adult at the time, thus I’m fairly certain that it mostly holds up! So I think that you gents will have a damn good time if you decide to give it a go!! (Which hopefully you do!! Even if it hangs out on the back burner until the next Spooky Season, considering that makes the most sense!)

Puppy out there trying to get someone in a accident lol now many close calls it got til it got lucky with them lol the dog showed his gratitude for them not hitting him! Lol
90% of Keaton’s lines were ad-libbed. Beetlejuice kicking the tree over wasn’t supposed to happen. When the tree fell over Keaton stayed in character, looked at the director and set director and said his now classic line Nice fuckin’ model!
Love you guys! I always appreciate your perspectives on films. The costumes are amazing! Your facial expressions as you watched this movie are priceless!
Beetlejuice has been my absolute favorite horror rom-com since i was a kid. i remember waiting for weekends where my parents would be out of town so that my brother and i could watch it on tv without them knowing. i actually only saw it in Spanish for a really long time until i was a teenager!
If you like Michael Keaton please watch Multiplicity. Such a hilarious movie and he plays multiple characters, I think you guys would absolutely love it.
Betelgeuse is a giant star in space; I think it's named after the scientist who discovered it. So they named the character after the star. And in my science class in high school, the teacher always pronounced it the same way they spelled the movie title, so you're probably right, they probably changed the spelling in the title just to make it easier for audiences. Though I'm not sure why they didn't keep that spelling throughout the movie. That just makes it confusing. I still love this movie, though.
It’s funny you guys say Winona Ryder’s character looks like Wednesday cause Winona Ryder is gonna play the mother of Jenna Ortega’s character in the beetlejuice sequel. This movie is a classic, but all I ask in the sequel is that they show more Beetlejuice in it.
The costumes are killing me but I love you guys are going out your way to put in the effort. I love watching you guys try and guess what was going on lol I tell people all the time whatever you think this movie is think again and you still won’t be right 😂 such a fun movie. Side note his name is bettlejuice I think they misspell it so people aren’t just saying his name all loosely lol
There is a Beetlejuice 2 but it's not out yet. It's scheduled to be released September of next year but may be delayed further due to the strike. It's a direct sequel with several of the cast returning. It was also directed by Tim Burton.
