Without industrial crop farming, CAFOS (confined animal feeding operations) aka industrial animal farming, is impossible. Industrial crop farming was developed as way to support the 'military industrial complex' after WWII - tank factories turned out tractors, explosives were used as 'fertilizer', and petro-chemical production was shifted to insecticides, herbicides, fungicides... Animals CAN be farmed in an ecologically sound manner, but industrial crop farming is difficult to do in a manner that is not destructive. By restoring the natural relationship between the land and livestock, the soil and the environment can actually be restored. Most of us can choose to buy our food from a local farmer raising crops and livestock in a manner mimicing the natural ecosystem, food produced without poisons. Support those farmers while you can, as taxes and regulations, among other challenges, is making it harder and harder for farmers to survive, or to hold onto land, land that has sometimes been in their family for generations. Industrial crop farming produces more tons of topsoil than food- topsoil which is lost through runoff, silting streams, rivers, bays, and especially the Gulf of Mexico (due to human interference, the silt can no longer be deposited in the Delta...), but also wind erosion. Shelterbelts and windbreaks planted during the Dust Bowl have been ripped out, removing those protections for both soils and crops, and eliminating those oases of habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. Industrial crop farming has led to essentially every pond, stream, lake and river in the mid-west being contaminated with industrial agricultural chemicals, some 'repurposed' or slightly altered from chemical warfare agents. All of which are showing up in the cord blood of newborn babies, and in human breast milk. Industrial crop farming has led to the destruction of natural habitats in some areas as far as the eye can see- horizon to horizon. Trees are important, but a wooded area without large herbivores is a broken ecosystem that can't function properly. Ditto for things like salmon runs which recycle nutrients washed to the seas back to mountain forests... Soil life - which all life on Earth depends - plants, and animals, especially massive herds of large herbivores, all co-evolved, and need each other to thrive. Grasses are the most effective plants at harvesting sunlight and pumping carbohydrates to the soil food web, which in turn makes minerals available to the grasses and other plants. Grasslands - prairies, steppes, and savannas - are all key ecosystems. Savannas, grasslands dotted with trees, are the ecosystem that supports the highest mass of mammalian life, and the natural habitat of Homo sapiens. I personally hate the city lifestyle and love the country and never want anything to do with a city but i have no choice. If everyone can sustain themsleves then this is better than wasting the land and cleaner air and enviroment and less waste and a group of people who dont depend on someone else to feed or clothe them etc... It sounds boring but many people in the world live like this today and it works for them but then theres china and america and europe who pollutes i think quite a bit more than the many poorer contries which really do not add to global warming but really pay for it with droughts and floods etc... Sometimes if you just leave things the way they are they will take care of themselves naturally. But if a few are really messing it up for others then everyone gets effected by it. For example cars and meat and plastic everywhere and useless toys and garbage and many throwable things made from petrolium that is just wasting the environment. I thin the future will be a lot better when everything is more orderly and things are more organized and better calculated etc.... Im hoping and see a better future and we are headed in the right direction with cars and awareness but i hope its just not too late one day maybe 50 years from now or so if we have wierd problems. I trust the govt but sometimes theres nothing you can do just try to enjoy what you have now and maybe eat less or something and dont drive a car and dont buy plastic a lot.

b57ecv Ok I don't think you understand what man made climate change means. The climate changing is normal yes, but the climate changing this FAST is not normal at all. Its terrible for species because they normally get millions of years to adapt to climate change. its also not just animals we are hurting either its our own species. Most of our species live around the oceans and when the ocean rises they will have to move. With our overpopulation this is just going to get even worse with much less land and millions of houses underwater. we NEED to stop all use of fossil fuels as fast as possible not just for climate change but for pollution. Aswell as because its going to run out so we need to change our energy infrastructure before it all runs out or our societys will collapse.

Well, of course it will take materials and energy to create and maintain solar panels and other renewable energy sources, but considerably, considerably less pollution and waste is produced in the long run. Everything we do creates stress on the planet and pollutes whether we wanted to or not, so yeah, all we can do is try to minimize our damage to such a level that the planet can heal.
