Ethan's ending was too harsh. He didn't act out of love, greed or lust, just genuine care & gratitude. Because of how much he suffered & the complex & trauma that warped his perception of right & wrong. Obviously he was wrong, because the "life debt" was owed by HIM, not those around him. Furthermore, the one who stood by him despite his illness was Nora. In his eyes Faith was the 1st to ever show him kindness & treat him like a human being, not a disposable animal & delinquent. So obviously he would be protective of that person, & would feel indebted to them. But he failed to draw a line, set boundaries, & take into account his fiancé & HER contributions to his healing & success. He knew how it felt to be discarded, yet he did it to Nora repeatedly, in the name of a life debt that HE owed. But irrationally expected Nora to be ok with it all, because FAITH had "saved his life" afterall🤦🏻‍♀️. He definitely deserved to be left by Nora, & deal with the fall back of Faiths deceit. But I don't think he deserved to end up in an asylum, after everything he went through & how hard he had fought to overcome his trauma. So it wasn't a fair end for him. There are ML's that deserve the worst of endings. But Ethan's actions were based on the imprint he formed, with the 1st person to EVER treat HIM like a HUMAN BEING & showed kindness & concern for HIM😞. Her words shaped the man he became, but he failed to grasp that "his savior" wasn't the only women that pulled him from the abyss he was in. Nor was she the only one that showed concern for him. Or that the ONLY one that gave him unconditional love & warmth, was Nora. He forsake'd a sincere heart for a life debt, & deserved to be punished. But not to be discarded AGAIN as an unwanted failure. That malicious bitch Faith, deserved MORE pain & punishment though. Her heart was as black as coal, & dirtier than sewer gunk.

This is one of the few stories I've encountered where the narrator has a strong support system. I agree that Ethan didn't deserve that kind of ending. I also agree that Nora was right to dump him. He was confused about where his loyalties I didn't agree with the families going to war with each other. I presume there would be more if this was a written story instead of audio.

The story is a little convoluted with a problematic conclusion. At the end, certain phrases from Faith are repeated over and over, followed by a confusing reference to a mission.

I kind of wish Ethan went back in time to before faith returned to ruin the wedding. So he can tell his fiancé about the jade and stage a oh it’s you someone else took credit for that though. And get faith set up as a crazy stalker before she shows up

I really hate the plot of how there's a you or her regarding a life or death situation. Honestly there isn't a right answer, in triage where you can't split in 2 the least injured or least at risk but still in danger of further harm unable to move or help themselves, would be saved first. But in terms of emotion and personal bias due to who the people are again there's no right answer. If it were 2 close friends, a wife and mother, a child an adult, what do you do? In my mind rescue the one that can be pulled out quickly come back get the other. There is no malice or heart no bias just get as many out of danger as possible including your own safety But if there is time to think your desire to save the most important to you could be seen as betrayal but if the person rescuing me was important to me, I'd never let them rescue me if I was in a dangerous environment I'd say "Don't come!" So even if they choose to come in, I won't begrudge them saving another over me. What if they walked passed you to get to the other not only endangering themselves, I'd still say to them "save yourself it's too dangerous get out don't risk your life". If they still commit and save them, I wouldn't be resentful I'd be hoping rescue services would be here soon and hope to be saved before death. Afterwards if both are saved, I would be grateful to be alive and thank those who saved me deeply, thanks acknowledging their efforts and risks to save a stranger. Now if this were a situation where both could be protected or saved because time allows for it and if either being picked first doesn't harm the other then no worries but if saving one would cause the death of the other and time was available to consider the consequences then I'd still put the other first. "Don't come to me run away!" I'd hope I'd fight or others might help or police,either way I'd feel terrible if that person died saving me or injured badly.
