No, the DVD I have has Danish for the hard of hearing, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish subtitles, but no English. I translated the Danish subtitles myself, as I understand a little of the language. You can, however, download text files put together by fans which include the complete subtitles in English: do a google search for den eneste ene english subtitles.
The rights were bought early on for an English-language remake (The One And Only featuring Patsy Kensitt), so the original film was not allowed to have any English subtitles.
Due to the rights being bought for an English remake (The One And Only featuring Patsy Kensit, I think) the original DVD was not allowed to have any English subtitles.
thanks, I've seen those subtitle files before, but how do they work? You have to read them from a separate screen (or piece of paper) while you watch the movie?
Sorry, just seen this response, hence my delay in getting back to you! Some video players (such as VLC Player) let you load in the subtitle file separately, which can be quite handy.
Interesting! That said, the English remake disappeared without a trace, so it would be great if they could release a second edition of the DVD with subtitles (particularly as Sidse Babette Knudsen, the lead, is also now well known to British viewers via Borgen). Can't see it happening though.
