That is also a great mower, but on a 1/3 acre or better, it's no replacement for my Time Master. And like many, I keep these types of tools in my shed :-p. One of my neighbors has this same Honda mower you linked. It's very light weight compared to a TM, and it's speedy. Also, you have to pull-start it again when you realize you forgot to pull the gutter downspouts before you started mowing. I notice the neighbor with this Honda only mows his front lawn with it, however, and uses a tractor on the back. I definitely wouldn't knock that Honda for what it's worth on a small lawn or edging around a large one, and Honda engines are pretty reliable in my experience.

My Honda Harmony 21" was purchased new in 2003 when they first came out. I have replaced the trans and drive belt ONE time at a cost of $129. Still starts first pull and no other issues. $700 seemed very expensive at the time of purchase BUT 19 years later it's still a great mower..

I’ve had my Toro Timemaster for a couple of years now and I haven’t had any issues. I sharpen my blades a couple times a year which might be preventing some of the clogging issues, but I’ve always done that regardless of what mower I’ve owned. The only part of the video I have to agree with is the fuel tank. I mow the backyard, refuel, then mow the front yard. It’s annoying, but really a minor inconvenience, all things considered. I love this mower and hopefully mine will continue to hold up over time. She starts on the first pull every single time. I can’t say that about any other brand that I’ve owned.

I bought a Toro TM30 at the beginning of last mowing season. I agree with some of these. I did shred the drag-flap on one of the very last mows of the season, right around 25hrs. I called Toro this spring and told them, and they shipped one out immediately at no charge. I too agree the size of the gas tank is laughably small. I bag my clippings, so I just top off during a dump of the bag and quick swig of water, so it’s not so much of a time adder for me, but it is inexcusable for a tank that small on a mower of this size. My 21” Troy-Bilt would mow my entire lawn and then some without ever running out. Regarding the clogging of the deck, this is something I have never encountered. My lawn is very thick and times when I mow it is very long, but I have never had even the slightest issue with clogging. I know the issue is not an anomaly, because there are complaints about it all over the internet. Not sure what I am doing differently, but I have never encountered it. I have had no other issues yet, but I am only at around 28hrs of use. I do like it so far. It definitely speeds up time spent mowing compared to my 21”. The quality of cut is also very nice and consistent. Aside from a bigger gas tank, one thing I really wish it had is casters for the front wheels. Turning the machine in tight confined areas can be challenging due to the weight and size. Casters would be a tremendous help.

I own the commercial 21" Honda for my lawn care business and I have a completely different opinion. My Honda clogs up constantly. This is the part of it I hate the most. My guess is that even its 200cc engine is to weak plus the back discharge is inferior to side discharge. Despite these flaws I love the reliability of Honda, ease of use and the huge grass bag. I'm in the process of either getting the larger 30" push mower (Timemaster included but given this review I doubt it). Maybe the Turfmaster which is commercial Timemaster. Or I'll go all in and get the residential zero turn Toei Timecutter since it'll work for 2-4 hours a week..

I currently use one as my main mower in my part time business. Can agree with most points of the video. Side discharge is your best friend with these mowers. Bagging is a close second. I would not even consider mulching as an option anymore. It has paid for itself in a short time but it is taxing on the body. Picking up my new stander in 2 days. Such a good and spot on video. Just had the idler pulley shear off last night and take all the belts with it. Soooo many issues with this mower. My previous Toro last 20 yrs with me and still going with my FIL. Had the Time master for a short time and replaced 2 sets of belts, idler pulley, blade engagement cable, personal pace cable, gas tank ( leaking), and have the engine deck bolts rattle loose twice. Finally the dealer added nuts to the top of the deck to stop it. The only thing I haven’t experienced yet is the transmission issue. Thank you for the video.

I purchased a Timemaster several years ago when the price was under $1,000. I maybe, had it for 1 month before I returned it. Like you, my yard is larger than most for a residential neighborhood, about 15,000sf. The problem I encountered was the mower would just die. After about 20 to 30 minutes of mowing, the mower would just stop and would not restart until it cooled down. This happened everytime I cut the lawn. Don't know if this issue was ever resolved, but I never bought another one. I replaced it with a Cub Cadet 33 inch walk behind, about $1,200 at that time, now ovewr $2,000, I think.. That was a true workhorse. Quick and powerful. The only issue I had with that one was it was kind of a beast. More powerful than I needed. Sold it about 5 years later. Now just have a couple of the standard size walk behinds, 22 in, I think. Looking for a wider cut, but haven't found anything yet. Was considering the DR 30in, not sure though.

I disagree with a lot of this. I bought one in 2013 and mowed a half acre lot. Last year we moved to a much larger yard. Its always ran perfectly even though at the smaller place I treated it like crap. Hardly ever washing the deck and only changing the oil every couple years. It did break last year, but it was 100% my fault mowing in overgrowth and hit a small stump. Even then it just broke the sync belt, the first time it had ever broke. I'm 45 years old - I've been mowing grass for 30 years now - and seems like your complaint about clogging is not unique to this mower. Yes, with no discharge on the left blade it clogs a little more. But I've never seen a mower not clog in wet grass. Proper use of any mower requires you wash it out after use. This is just how lawnmowers work. Same with tightening the deck bolts. Bolts need retightened. This is the current state of the universe. After moving to the bigger yard, I researched updating my mowing equipment. I still couldn't find anything better than the TimeMaster for the niche it fills. So I bought another one and have two now. Thanks for posting, good content. Just wanted to make sure viewers see that others are having different experiences.

I have had a Honda self-propelled 21" for 7 or 8 years. It never needs scraping out underneath and it stays relatively clean. I sharpen the blade once a year, change the oil once a year, and I am still on the original spark plug. I take the air filter out and knock the dirt out of it about once a month and that is it. My lawn is 10K sq. ft. and I was looking at the Timemaster to save a little mowing time, but after this review, I'll just stick with the Honda. Great review! Thanks!

As an owner of this model for the past 4 months, the clogging is a huge issue. I can’t say that enough. It’s a very clean cut though. Very honest review. I have seen these around the neighborhood. At Home Depot. Ok. Too much plastic. The engine is not a great engine. It’s way under powered and there for overloaded. Sounds like they’re using the same transmission as the 21 inch mower. And along with the other problems. Is it worth the extra $$? Probably not. Even the 30 inch commercial versions are ok. But, way too expensive for the extra inches of cut. Again, an undersized engine. In the future they’re going to be a ton of these sitting at the curb. My point? Stay with the relatively simple 21 cut. The generally work with much less problems.

I like to call these mowers the Toro Timewaster from what I've seen in videos like yours. It's either down time or extra maintenance that really doesn't really work and that's why I own a Honda commercial HRC2163HXC (Canadian equivalent of the American HRC216HXA) as a lot of landscaping pros revert to that as opposed to using Toro. I think Honda is the king of 21" mowers so it was sad to hear it is abdicating its throne. That said, if I ever get the cash and I want a larger mower like the Toro, I would go with the commercial Scag as it has decent reviews. I even had a chance to see one in person as another firm in my town has one.

I'm putting my current Toro Time-Master to sleep after the 5th mowing season. I prefer to mulch, so I mow 2-3 times each week from April to June, then once every 5-6 days during the hot time. I regret my purchase but am not sure what to do next. It's truly just an expensive "ok" mower. It doesn't mulch that well, the bag shoots grass out, and the self-propelled is meh. I trashed my second lawn flap 2 weeks after replacing it. And yes, I just had to clean the deck before mowing a few days ago. I had a trusted 21" Toro that was working fine but felt that the 30" would be that much better. Nope. Next.

I'm on my 3rd season with a Honda 21" self-propelled mower. I'd been considering this Toro 30" Timemaster in order to cut down on my mowing time but with your video outlining these problems along with a number of reviews highlighting the small fuel tank, deck clogging problem and the belt-eating drive/pulley system, I think I'll just stay with my Honda. No sense in spending 20 minutes cleaning the deck after every mow if it only saves me 15 minutes of mowing time. I was surprised to hear your description of the failure rate on the Briggs & Stratton engine. They are usually pretty dependable.

I have had mine for 8 years. Mow 5 to 6 yards a week all 8 years. 1 never changed the 190 cc motor. Two oil changes a year with opti oil it's expensive but works. On the second Trans, and it slowing down. Swapped to the commercial baring the first year and no problems. I take the cover off once a month and blow everything out. The clogging is the worst because once it starts you have to clean the deck o it just gets worse. Also it's not wet grass. But you can go slow or overlap and it doesn't matter clog within 10 feet.

I have a Toro turf master used it for 6 years the drag flap still drags on the floor every time I pull it out of the garage , looks like new. My block is 4000sqr m app 21527.82sqr ft.. Half of my block has house and garden ,so 2000sqr m or 10000 sqr ft of lawn .I have the Kawasaki - smaller motor and the commercial gas tank , I can mow my lawn 3-4 times . I only ever do an oil and oil filter once a year ,app 50 hours. Never looked at my mounting bolts ,because they have never moved.I have never replaced one pulley. I have just replaced the drive belt app 350 hrs. My transmission is great ,the bearing on the output needs a little oil every service, or it squeaks. I mow every 10 to 25 days, catch 50% and mulch 50% .Only clean my deck on a yearly service, blades last around 2-3 years ,wet grass will slow me down , but not a lot. I have a 2nd mower , haven't started it in 6 years( think I might scrap it) Still has the original air filter..Just remove the plastic belt cover and leave it off. A lot of grass builds up under it and may cause extra where and tear. It also makes checking the belt tension easy .do a visual check every start up. If a belt breaks ,witch is unlikely ,it will fly out sideways .not a problem..PS I have worked in the hire and rental industry for app 20 years maintaining small equipment ,This mower , I have found to be LOW maintenance ..

I’ve got a toro TimeMaster that I cut Bermuda with in the summer and rye in the winter. The rye clumps up on the deck pretty terribly with the mulch blades. I know there’s no real comparison and individual circumstances are so variable, but for the past 4 years, I have been using a 125cc Cheetah mower (the cheapest I could find $175), to mow my 2/3 acre back yard. It takes me 2 hours on a good day or 2.5 when I’ve left it for 2 weeks. It’s incredibly light weight, uses hardly any fuel, has lived outside in the elements its entire life and is small enough to throw around with 1 hand to go around trees etc. Yes, it’s like 16” which means I’m spending more time, but I’m almost afraid to “upgrade” after watching a bunch of review videos for the options I’ve been considering.

My maintenance has comes down to single annual oil change,1 belt over its lifetime, muffler guard broke, and replaced the kill switch. It runs strong and starts on first pull almost every time. I bag but clogs only occur during the worst wet conditions. It is heavy but cuts great. Maybe your problems are related to the operator. Oh yeah, it is noisy. Having a real hard time trying to choose between the 2022 Toro Super Recycler, the 2022 Toro Timemaster, and the 2022 Honda HRX217. I live in Oklahoma and have Bermuda grass. My yard is 5,316 SF. I have owned Toro recyclers in the past and am a huge fan, but the reviews on the 2022 super recyclers as well as the lack of a side discharge chute and clean out port have me wary. My dream mower is a Timemaster, but I think my yard is probably too small. All of this leads me to the Honda, which has great reviews, I’m just a Toro guy, and don’t really want to make the switch, lol.

I don't have a big lawn, current Honda can do it in about 45min on high speed. You thoughts what you would suggest. I thought the 30" sounded cool and would save time until watching this. Honda? HRC vs HRX? Wnat something lasts and starts on the first or second pull which the Honda's have always done. Appreciate your help before I pick a mower. The thing I didn't like on the HRX was the belt drive. The HRC has the Transmission and mine have held up well in the past, but maybe there is a better option.

The little peg that holds the front tires at different heights in place is starting to wear down. Its just the two different heights I always use. The wire that connects to the kill switch fell out. I don't own this beast, but I do own the Toro Recycler 22 in. Briggs And Stratton Personal Pace Rear Wheel Drive Walk Behind Gas Self Propelled Lawn Mower with Bagger. It was purchased new in April 2022. Last week, I was mowing my acre for the last time of the season. I have probably between 10-15 hours on the mower. I hit a tuft of grass that was dense enough to bind the motor and stop it instantly. When I tried to restart the machine, the piston was bound. Manually rotated the blade (which was very stiff). Still could not use the pull cord. Had to drive 2-1/2 hours to get to the nearest authorized Toro service center for what I was certain would be a warranty repair. Nope. The young man told me the issue was lack of user maintenance. Incredulous, I asked him to explain. He told me he could tell from the dirt he saw in the air filter that I had failed to replace the filter, resulting in excess wear and tear on the piston and sleeve, and that's why he could detect aluminum shavings in the oil. He said he wasn't going to waste an hour of his time breaking into the engine to submit a warranty claim he knew would be denied. Toro may have had a good reputation in the past, but it appears to be true no longer. I ended up taking the mower to a different repair center and I'll wait to get the final word from him, but I'm pretty sure this will be my last Toro purchase. It has never started in 1 or 2 pulls ever - although I am at 7000' elevation so maybe? Even though they proudly claim you never have to add oil, both service guys told me you *MUST* change the oil. It isn't mentioned in the manual, but if your air filter is dirty, it voids your warranty? Wouldn't a dirty air filter just make it run poorly? I found the machine to be very underpowered. Grass that is even slightly wet or long bogs this engine down to the stall point. In retrospect, I would not buy this machine again. You've been warned.

Hey Andrew there really isn’t a good one in the residential market. If you want a decent one you’re better of going with a Scag or Ferris 30. Stihl might have one now too. High price tags though. May want to look into a rider for those sizes!

@GarageGear right, I currently have a Troy Bilt Mustang 42" from 2008! It's on its last leg! We were thinking of going 30" push but now we are leaning another 42" zero turn! Looking at the Bad Boy right now. Any suggestions there? Thanks!

I have a friend who has a 24 000sqft lawn and his Timemaster does it twice with the same tank of gas. He's very mechanically inclined and said to me the rpm had to be adjusted down because his ran way too fast for nothing and now it's perfect

Lowering the RPM can help burn less gas. Thanks for sharing Jamy!

100% regret buying mine 2 years ago. It's been in the shop for a myriad of reasons. Currently looking for another large push mower.

I’ve had my time master for 3+ years and have not had any of these issues with the exception of the flap. Otherwise, it’s been amazing machine.

🤔 I haven't had any of those problems and my time Master is over 8 years old and I mow over 10,000 ft and I don't need no extra gas tank and I don't need to refuel in fact there's plenty of extra gas left over when I'm done. I did have to replace Wheels belts and do tune-ups that's it and it only clogs if the yard is soaking wet and super tall.🤷

My Timemaster is fantastic, no issues at all, after mowing, I blow the grass off my mower every time after I finish to use. I’m sure you don’t like this Toro Timemaster. You can buy a fancy Rolls-Royce, but if you avoid the service or if you don’t care about, then you have issues with everything 🎯😎

I don't mind cleaning the deck, any mower can get clogged even the honda, how do I know? Owned one. Like all mowers over time the paint the luster or whatever wears underneath. Now depending on the type of grass you cut or how wet the lawn is you will have to eventually scrap or wash the deck. Why I won't use the honda? Well one day I was mowing and didn't notice the rock a kid threw into my yard, BAM! shot straight up and out the top of the deck wrecking the mower. No warranty going to cover that. Now if you are worried about clumping on the Toro 30 inch there is one option you can try. According to another channel who says this worked for him he took off the front baffel under the deck which is mounted by two bolts and claims it fixed his problems. I cannot verify because I don't mow wet grass. Also I agree on the cleaning port mainly because it will damage your spindles. When you have to consider each spindle is around $75.00 each it can get costly. I will take getting 15 mins shaved off mowing vrs cleaning the deck anyday. And no it does not take 20 mins to clean the deck unless you are a weak snail. Less than 5 mins top using a house scrapper. What may discourage some may not bother others. I am diabetic I use the 30 inch so I can keep mowing, time matters.
