The scan Tool you were showing was just never "registered" when it was sold. It's that simple. ANY Dealer CAN simply register it and when they do the scan tool will automatically UPDATE with the newest most current version of Software that is available. The problem is that many dealers will refuse to REGISTER the scan tool when they didn't sell it.
As someone who wants to get into handheld scopes. I'm looking at older versions of snap on that I can get for a reasonable affordable price. I'm looking at the Vantage pro, Verus, and others. Finding a video like this is helpful as it allows me to see if the old stuff is still relevant in 2023 as my newest car I own is a 2008.
@@ToolDemosHopefully you can give us 2023 perspective on the Modis, Vantage, Verus and what software at minimum it should have? I'm sure I'm not the only one asking this question but what should I look for in used snap on scantool?
Well very interesting Steve..I having some older units , old modis probably like yours & a verdict would the battery go bad in them also & render them useless without spending more on them..always learning, sorry at your expense..but Thanks for this..
Good thing u can return it. I recently bought the Autel MX808 i think its worth every penny. Bidirectional also. I got mine from cornwell but think jdtco has them $379.
It sounds like that's just the CMOS battery that provides power to maintain the BIOS settings when the main battery dies. It's usually not hard to replace. If you can fix a car, then I'm sure you can figure it out.
You are INCORRECT!!!! When the internal battery (small cell) on the PSB (Power Circuit board as Snap-on Calls it) goes bad it resets the clock and the unit is totally nonfunctional and has to be sent in to Snap-on for repair. Remove and replace that small small cell internal battery and it will also reset the clock requiring it to be sent into Snap-on for repair too. When snap on gets it they will test the scan tool and then they will falsely claim that the PSB is defective and requiring replacement. Snap-on does this and makes you falsely pay for a repair every single time. The scan Tool he is showing was just never registered when it was first sold. It's that simple. They are ‘full function’ scan tools. Here’s the one I recommend if you are budget-minded: amzn.to/4ceIhgQ I reviewed it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yNKTOdyetOc.htmlsi=doxh5eau9p1Jsu3h
@@ToolDemos Snap-on's online tool catalog hasn't been updated in YEARS.. BUT i just recently found out they have a total separate website for their scan tools..
@@shepherdsfleetservicesllc8147 Yeah and that’s for one of the “lower tier” models! The Zeus is almost $11k list so if you do it right you’ll pay $9-10k
