In today’s video I’ll be discussing some of the things to look forward to if you’re interested in food service delivery. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. #trucking #truckdriver
Salute Ant! One topic I can talk about in addition to those you’ve covered is a pretty common occurrence for local foodservice routes. One day you’ll probably find yourself on a street with ‘No Thru Trucks’ signage. What my trainers have informed me of is that if you have a delivery on that exact street or somewhere very very close in proximity to that street they’ll let you continue on without a ticket. On one occasion during my training weeks we got stopped by a sheriff and let him know we were delivering to the jail around the corner and he let us roll. Now sometimes that might not be the case and you just might not have known because signage isn’t always posted at every entrance off of a highway, state route, country road, etc. I’d suggest just being honest and respectful and if given a ticket go ahead and forward it to your company. They may or may not foot the Bill for it but using truck apps like “HAMMER”(free)or “CIRCUIT”($20/month) will ensure you’re never on those roads to begin with. Be safe on that road y’all 🙏🏽
I made damn good money in food service. But I quit cuz more often than not, every day was a bad day. It was always something, super stressful. Currently I’m hauling fuel, so good so far.
I just got my CDL this week. Thinking of getting into food service for the experience and good pay right out the gate. But I’m definitely interested in getting my hazmat and hauling fuel asap. How is it?
@@TBb____fuel dont pay more than food service in my area… fuel want you to start off at $21 overnight what a joke… in in food service now and make $42.50 overnight only is my company… but this is the Baltimore DC area
I like to think if you lift with your legs and not your back while stacking/unstacking, that you can prevent ever messing up your back, as happens to many drivers. And while they don’t necessarily throw their back instantly (although I’m sure that’s been known to happen), their backs start to deteriorate slowly over time, until they’re forced to quit. I’d also be worried about my knee joints and feet/ankles giving out over time. Is there a way to prevent this? Already being into working out would definitely help, but what are other ways to protect the body?
@@comment5398 Yes. And there are many laborers and/or weightlifters who may go years injury-free, but then they pick up a heavy object with their head in the clouds and forget to lift with their legs, and then they mess up their back. It only takes one time, especially as you age.
No way not to lift with your back when the warehouse buries the boxes you're looking for and you gotta have one for on the pallet and the other on the trailer floor
I decided to go head an take my general knowledge test today when I got off work at the DMV an I passed finally 😩 lol. Just gotta do air brake an combinations next an I can start my journey to trucking school. Just wanted to share that I appreciate your motivation an content my brother 🫡💪🏾💯
Can you do a video on transferable skills they are looking for? I have my CDL and all endorsements. I'm trying to get into the industry coming from 35 years in software development. But, in general, I don't know what they want to see on an application. Thanks!
Trucking jobs aren’t necessarily looking for those types of skills on an application. In trucking, the most important things companies look for are tractor trailer driving experience & clean driving record. Successfully passing a drug screening & background check really goes without saying but I guess I’ll say it anyway.
@@imanthonytv Thanks for the reply! Driving record is clean as a whistle. Drug and background check are not an issue either. Tractor trailer driving experience is the hours spent driving in school. That's all I have for driving. Do you feel that I have a chance for local food service? Or are they going to pass on me due to lack of drive time? I appreciate any knowledge or advice you can share. Peace.
The most frustrating part of beverage delivery that drove me crazy was waiting for the product to be checked in. Never was lucky enough to drop n go. Good content bruh!
You should do a pros & cons between 1st shift & 3rd shift… Currently on 3rd but thinking about switching to 1st soon.. Like as far as traffic & pulling into empty lots vs lots that are open for business
Starting at US Foods on Monday i am pumped and blesssd for this opportunity. 🙌 . Tried to apply at gordon but they were not hiring at the time locally near me.
I was an order selector for US Foods for a year and a half. I have my CDL now so I’m thinking about coming back and driving for them. I know it can’t b more physical than selecting
Yea that one off is performance food group customized , we have to allow the Cracker Barrel’s and Red lobsters , and sometimes even Fridays to scan the product in .
In Sysco, Virginia we don’t have to wait when it’s a key drop of course. But if there’s a manager or other employee there who wants to check everything in, we’re instructed not to refuse and rush out. Most places are great on that though, they’ll start checking things off as soon as the first dolly is rolled in and unscooped
@@Dblackdakid50 I’m starting at customized this month. Can you explain how the daily pay vs component works. I know they will go over in orientation but trying to get an understanding. They make it sound salaried but I heard that’s not the case
@@BigRome95South it’s salary you gonna get the same thing every week bruv , you get paid every two weeks … don’t let them fool you , no matter how many miles you drive or how many key drops or stops you are going to get the same thing. 1560 every week after taxes you looking at about 2200-2300 every two weeks
Yo, whats the thing youre pulling on the dolly? Does it release something? My biggest obstacle so far has been kicking the dolly out from under the product
I've been doing Delivery but with liquor and wine for about 12 yrs. I don't really wanna drive over the road and seems like food service is the only decent paying jobs where you can be home everyday. I've delt with the bad loads, customers holding you up and the biggest one is getting out of the warehouse late. I couldn't take that anymore, 3, 4, and 5 hours behind.
Hey ant as a local delivery driver do you still need one of those expensive truck gps ? I had an offer with Sysco so I’m thinking about all I need before I start 🙏🚛
I definitely think a trucker GPS would be useful for a delivery driver. Some people have trucker GPS apps installed on their phones & some have the actual GPS in their tractor. Google maps can also still be a good resource to utilize on satellite mode to zoom in on specific customer locations to analyze parking situations. Good luck 👍🏾
Take it slow and just a little nudge to the left and nudge to the right you'll be fine. How is gfs in york pa ? I'm at us foods right now in ny but I'm looking into relocating to pa not sure if I want to stay with us foods or move on to another company.
My DC says that I bury my stops too much 😂😂😂the shit seem impossible not too ., they have me in freezer they’ll be like 2 BKs, 2 pandas , a panara bread and like 2 papa Murphy’s ( all on the same order 😂😂😂
Man look at all those US FOODS cases you r delivering for us. Thank you for a US Foods driver haha. Hopefully you like the color orange bc you will soon be US FOODS baby
