Marty Music please tell me what kind of guitar you have. I have an acoustic guitar but it doesn’t sound like yours. Your strums are so much more distinct in sound. How much did yours cost?
Marty Music I remember you from Blues Guitar Unleashed (Griff Hamlin website). Now I know where to find your stuff. Minor chords don’t always equal a sad sound. There are some songs in a minor key that are rather happy.
I remember when I was 11 years old, I used to watch Marty's videos and try to learn from it, and now I'm 19 years old and I am a certified lead guitarist of a band. Thanks to you Marty! ❤
@@Herlannah_ishere Practice, practice, practice and get comfortable playing in front of people, and did I say practice? Where there is a will, there is a way to achieve what you want.
For anyone just picking up a guitar. This is the only teacher that you need. Marty explains things in such a lovely way and I can't praise him highly enough. Thanks Marty.
I'm in my 60's now and finally have time to myself after all the kids moved out. I am doing the 5 min each day and as others have said ends up being 30-45. If it hurts I just go get a coffee and go right back to it. I'm not giving up and hope I can keep up with my nephew some day soon. Marty is all the teaching you need! Thank you for your fantastic videos.
I'm 58 and pretty much the same story, other than my daughter moved back home with the grandkids. But it's nice to be a part of raising them even if it cuts into practice time. Decided i'm going to buy myself a nice semi hollow when i get better as an incentive.
Just bought my first guitar yesterday, never played so much as a chord in my 30 years of living. It's nice to have three chords under my belt after 2 days and be able to play something recognizable as music rather than endlessly, awkwardly noodling and doodling before giving up and returning to my mastery of that venerated instrument....the air guitar.
when he did the spray thing with his fingers, i literally thought he was spraying something and the first thing that came to mind was “ sh*t i don’t have freeze spray” 😭
Woo hoo still doing my 5 minutes a day like you said and that always turns into 30-45 mins. My fingers get sore but I'm doing so well with your lessons. Thank you Marty!
Being able to play cords has given me a tremendous amount of confidence, I got my mom's guitar after she past and it's been in a closet for 7 years. Thank you for helping me get it in tune and be able to hear it again.
I tried to teach myself to play guitar years ago with a book. I wasn't too bad, but it was missing that one on one interaction and it just didn't sound quite right. Now after watching a few of your videos, I see how much easier it is to learn when you have an actual person explaining the details. Thanks for making what I thought was a challenging experience into a fun, easy and pleasant one.
Hey mate, I recognize that this is about a year old comment, so I apologize for bugging you. Any tips you can give on bypassing this problem? I'm having hell with it.
@@nightraver4051 maybe try barring the three string with one finger since all 3 notes in the chord are on the same fret. Place your middle finger across the 2nd fret on the D, G and B strings and then play the note. Should sound exactly the same.
@@nightraver4051 I had this issue, not sure if you ever found a solution, but I use my middle finger to hold the G and B strings. There was no way I was getting three of my fat fingers on that second fret. Still fine tuning the sound, but I can hear the A chord in there. Hope youre still playing.
day two... my fingers hurt so bad and the tips are completely numb. but i refuse to give up for my dad who passed away and played every instrument known to man. i bet hed be proud if he saw me now. thanks marty music - your vids is helping me so much since i otherwise wouldnt have a teacher of any kind.
Amazing. The only online guitar lessons I can actually learn from. Very elaborate and at an adequate pace for beginners. Appreciate it man keep em comin !
I recently started taking anti-depressants after suffering with terrible depression for literally the majority of my adult (and teenage) life. I suddenly regained that spark of creativity that I used to have when I was younger, and began writing songs. I played flute when I was younger, but I got the urge to learn guitar to go along with my new-found song writing hobby, and now that everything is shut down and I’m temporarily out of work, I decided that it’s time to learn! I really appreciate these videos! My fingers are sore but my mind is clear!
I honestly find you so helpful watching your videos because I'm teaching myself. I struggle with the strummin' but you really break it all down and help by giving different ways of doing it. Thank you.
I’ve tried playing the guitar a long time ago when I was younger and I got more frustrated and I thought there was either something wrong with me or the guitar I had. But now I am older and I understand things more. You’re the teacher I have always wanted and I believe watching your lesson videos has made everything more fun and better for me. Even though my fingers hurt in the very end 😁👍
This is my 4th time in my 30 years picking the guitar back up, and this is the time I’ve moved the farthest. I no longer take my guitar to get tuned, and I can actually play 3 chords so far. Thank you for this video series
I have never had a good experience with the guitar my dad made me practice for me it was torture because the guy he made me watch was terrible, I was on my own time and watched this is I got better my dad was shocked when I was so good, so now I’m happy and I’m a pretty good player. THANKS MARTY!!
Dude I was getting so frustrated the first three days but on the fourth I really started to enjoy playing the guitar. Thanks to you ! I love how you engage your audience. & your videos are also so entertaining. Thanks again
I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now. I know hundreds (literally) of songs beginning to end with solos and all, BUT I could not even name you one single guitar chord. Lol Beginning a journey of Marty's vids learning what these chords I have been playing all these years are actually called.
I love this guy, just his approach to teaching is great and I just have so much sitting down and practicing because after I always feel like I have made some progress. Just five minutes everyday is what he said but I can't help but sit down for longer
Mate. You are amazing. I got this guitar like 10 years ago, tried the C chord and was like “ya ok, thanks very much” and packed it up. Dusted the old guitar back to give it another shot and stumbled upon ur channel. Am on the second lesson and it’s going well. Cheers for ur help pal
Picked guitar back up abt a month ago, haven't played for about 4 years. These videos really help bringing stuff back to me. Definitely the best lessons on the internet by far.
literally my favorite teacher ever. anytime i forget anything i always find my way back here ❤️. thank u for spreading ur talent to others in the world.
I recently started watching these videos and started playing on my own guitar and my family says that it's getting better, I am rlly thankful for these videos. It makes playing so much fun now
I am a technician and have no rythm. Not even sure if I spelled that word correctly. I have gone throught the first 3 beginner videos. My lack of beat is obvious, but I feel like I am learning things. Although, I want to fast forward to see where I will be in 6 months. I feel like I might actually be getting it. My wife who used to play an instrument (air instrument), says I am getting better. This is like a 110lb man trying to win a weight lifting competition. I am well out of my league. lol. I appreciate Marty's encouragement and loving his free styles. I hope to get there. Thank you Marty for doing these videos.
It's been a dream of mine for my Dad and I to play guitar together. I'm really hoping that by the time I get married next year I can master to play "Beautiful Crazy" by Luke Combs and sing it to my bride to be. Thanks for the lesson, Ill be tuning in to the next one. You rock!
I started guitar lessons at 61 from an individual for about 12 lessons but did not get excited about playing and gave up until your first video and now I can't put it down even after dislocating my ring finger on the cord hand. 3 days after a bad dislocation from a football I was practicing and loving it thank you so much for inspiring me to get back into it👍
You have a great way of motivating beginners and reminding them to take it easy on themselves, and give it time. Most things seem really hard at first until you practice and give it all time to sink in.
Just barely got my grandpa’s guitar and wanted to learn how to play it. I’m on my second day and so far it’s going great! Thank you for making these :)
pratice , practice, practiceI. I have ulnar nerve damage in my fretting hand. My Dr. said that playing is good therapy. So for now I'm fretting with middle ring and pinky fingers. Thanks Marty
I had a guitar since I was 5 and I always kept trying to learn how to play using the book but I couldn’t. I gave up on it and forgot I ever had one I found it and tried using the book again but I struggled again. Then I found your videos and they’ve really helped me out.
This is absolutely THE best course for beginners! I have already learned 3 cords in only 2 lessons and I am an absolute beginner! I am 62 and just starting!! Of course having had BAD music teachers in childhood - I gain confidence from every lesson you teach Marty! I have tried some other teachers and they were just too fast and assumed I knew things I did not understand but I am convinced that I can learn guitar from just 2 lessons in this course! Blessings!
These lessons are so perfect because you really take your time and explain the notes and give me time to practice it and switch around from note to note. Actual teachers want to move so fast because there’s only like an hour and it’s really expensive but I need to take time
One thing to keep in mind is that the farther back a finger is, the harder you have to press to prevent the buzzing. So unless you somehow got your fingers in a perfect vertical line (probably not possible), you'll always have to press harder with the top finger.
I saw you in the comments of episode one! How is your learning going? I have one goal as of right now which is to learn Post Malone's 'Go Flex' on guitar before I see him in concert on May 4, 2019. I've only been going for 1 day but I'm enjoying it so far!
wait when does he say that?! But that is true. Many people quit guitar because of the stress and frustration they get when watching RU-vid videos about how to play the guitar.
I’m already feeling the seedlings of callus. I’ve really enjoyed the first two chords so much I was stuck on them for a while. Getting the feel for strumming without a pick too. Enjoying it so much thus far thanks for the free lessons!!
Picking up guitar for the first time in a while. Glad these lessons exist, because this is probably the furthest I've gotten in any of my lessons I've taken, even the ones with "professionals" that I took for a year, I was still more behind than this. Thank you so much Marty!
After years (I'm 41) of telling my family, "we are not a musical people" I have decided to try and learn guitar. Cheers for these videos, I've already gotten much further than I thought I would be able to.
I'm a 32 year old nurse. Can't sing, can't play any instruments but I've always wanted to learn to pay guitar. Once about 16 years ago I tried to play Swing Life Away using your video and got so discouraged because I was young and dumb and thought I should be getting it right away. Fast forward to today. I've been learning with that same Swing Life Away video I watched when I was 16 and using these absolutely wonderful lessons! You are helping me to be able to play a song, with no history of playing music, as a surprise for my wife for our 10 year anniversary in September. Thank you so much Marty ❤❤️
Thank you Marty Music! I've been quarantined by my company for the next 3 weeks (I'm not sick someone else is) so I stopped by a pawn shop and found an acoustic guitar for $23 bucks and came home tuned it and it sounds great! Its a good beginner guitar (it's a Samich Greg Bennett design) because I've maybe held a guitar for 10 minutes in my previous 43 years. Thank you for making this easy to follow and for speaking in a language I hear. Can't wait to see where this goes!
My fingers and hands are so thick and big that they always touch other strings and it is so demotivating but I will keep practicing the first lesson again and again!!
Practice makes perfect, I finally got the right sound for two strums, adjusted my seating, went to strum again and just heard that annoying “thunk” sound, this is gonna be a fun day
I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Just always thought it would be way too hard. The way you explain this is amazing and really helps. After 1 week of practice, I now have 3 chords under my belt and eagerly ready to get started on more. Thanks Marty! You are amazing!
You awesome, fun, enjoyable and honest approach is making this experience so much easier :) I've lost track in time just replaying the video and just finding it so good every time. Thank you very sencerly and I hope to be somewhere close to your standard one day. Wish you all the best and keep making these amazing and inspiring videos man. Thank you ✌
I literally cannot fit my fingers in that fret without my index being at completely the wrong side. I think as I build more rough skin they will become more pointier or something I hope...
try over lapping them not just side by side. have the upper finger slightly on top of the finger below. i work construction and have hard fat fingers from years of hard labor and i have difficulty doing it too - but it is possible with a bit of work...
I noticed that too, but I also noticed that Marty himself seems to not mind that in the video, where his index finger is pretty much right at the top of the fret.
Marty I'm a 55yr old, always wanted to try guitar, doubted I could do it but I'm on lesson 2 after giving myself a week of getting comfy with the first lesson. Really enjoying it, but without you it wouldn't be possible for me Thank you so much, you are a star. ✨ Big hugs xx
I have been trying to learn how to play the guitar for over 20 years but have never received the "reward" of feeling like it sounded good until finding your lessons!! Thank you so much!! On to lesson 3!!!
Thanks marty this helps me a lot because I'm still a kid and I'm trying to play guitar because it speaks to my soul, but I just can't afford the apps and stuff you are really helping me thanks 💪🙏
I've always wanted to learn to play on a guitar. I made the sudden decision to buy 1 a few days ago, when i got it i took my time and spended almost 1hour to tune my guitar. Seeing this made it all worth it, i never taught i'd play something that sounds like music in just 2 days. Im so freakin' hyped now! 🤣 Thank you, Marty! Thanks for the amazing guitar lessons.
51-yr old here and on the cusp of trying to pick up the guitar. Never really been musically inclined, but find myself with more time on my hands (divorced, kid just went to college...). Looked at guitars this weekend and lessons such as this (just watched 1 and 2) really encourage me and make me optimistic. Love the approach and I'm over here like, "I can totally do this!" and I don't even have a guitar (yet). So many things out there...websites, YT videos, apps, private lessons.....Marty seems to really get it! To be continued....
My dad was self taught and had his band in the early 60's called the "Coachmen". Love how Marty teaches. Just starting and have to say its not easy but Marty does make it very simple to learn once you get past that hump. Keep it up man!!!
Ohhh YES! I can already hear little bits of my favourite songs when I 'play' Thankyou!! Now can you tell me how to access your stuff on my other 'tablet' please I have an app on my phone but I cant sync all the best stuff on all of my technology things (PS I am a mid 50's newbie and need help please ) TIA Caffee
I love your energy and your style of teaching. I am 41 and just picked this up and loving being able to play some chords which motivate me to go on. I tried other RU-vidrs but yours is the best one out there 🇵🇰
Hey I’ve had a guitar forever but never had the drive to play it, I started on your first video yesterday and today is day two on your second video. I love these they are incredibly helpful and will continue going Thankyou
Hope youve solved ur prob by now. But they dont have to be in line. My index finger would be at the top of the fret. Middle in the middle and ring at the bottom near the 3rd fret
And its finger tips. Like a bit away from your nail. Not like when your texting and your whole fingertip is touching the letters. Just the very very tip.
I have a terrible time trying to build these callouses! and I want to tape my first knuckles to stop them from bending the wrong way. that weird? :S actually... maybe I'll just find a tutorial on how to play like jeff healey....
I've gotta tell ya that I tried your lessons last year or maybe longer and I couldn't get my fingers to hit any chords. I did lessons 1&2 and I'm already strum. I even got lesson 3 down without even listening to the tutorial. I'm super excited because I only practiced about an hour each time.... You're the guy to go to if you wanna learn. Thanks Marty!!!!
