I love your sign off. A spiritual friend of mine used to remind us often: " roots and wings". I think the idea of splitting your tutorials into ones with a focus on sound design and ones with a focus on composition with your wonderful presets is a great idea, so the length of the tuts is reasonable while the focus is helpful in a didactic sense. I watch, imagining what it would have been like for the great painters to have had brushes and pigments that could change "mid stroke". What a world of creativity would have opened for them. We are blessed by our audio technology. Thanks! Ciao for now.
Banging stuff! Vital is a must have. I really enjoy this free synth. I'm buying Hive 2 next week! Really looking forward to playing with that!!! Thanks for sharing your insights free of charge. That is how music is supposed to work. I hope to be able to give back some knowledge myself some day;)
That's awesome! Just know that the Pro upgrade has the same functionality as the free version, just more wavetables and presets. That's it. You can get more presets I've made for it at material.bandcamp.com - Cheers!
i make all kinds of music, more mystical ambient stuff, i have been doing so for about a year, ty for presents they will be a massive help to my work in the future, might even try use the presents to help make my own sounds in the future. I also just found your channel today, i am really happy i have found your channel as it will help with my work in the future, i wanna thank you for making these video online for free
Great video. Just one small note - in the context of C minor it's an Ab, not a G# because what you're creating from the second degree of the scale is a half diminished chord.
Thank you for all the tips! Been watching since your glitch percussion tutorial video and really enjoy your way of explaining things, especially for casuals like me.
Chris, your Vital bank sounds really good. I just gave it a try and wow, that sounds amazing, both for positive ambient and dark ambient tracks. Many thanks for this gift!
I was so amazed by the beauty of this sound that was surprised when you said that 30 minutes had passed. Fantastic presets amd synth. Easiest way to start making beautifull music. IMO you dont need another ambient sequence instead i would add some plucky agressive landscaped sounds to make it more dramatic.
Excellent tutorial Chris. I did take it a few steps further by replacing the Vital base with my model D external equipment (cant beat an analog growling base) and tweaked a few parts, added some external reverb etc. Understand where your coming from by bringing this in many different directions. Thanks Again.
Hugely uplifting this channel, the slightest nuance in a sound and Chris gets exited, and this is exactly how it should be when you go beyond actually ‘listening’ to music, it’s exactly how I feel! I have a 12 minute downtempo ambient going at the moment in Cubase, I’ll have a listen to the free bank in Vital and hopefully incorporate some! Many thanks Chris for your encouragement! Great work!!!!!👏👏👏👏
dude, thanks for your vids. i'm a metalhead and been playing guitar for 15 years now and always loved ambient/psybient/downtempo/etc as well and i'm just now starting to learn how to make ambient/etc music myself, and i look forward to being able to experiment with strings as well. can you recommend a midi keyboard? not looking for anything that does too much, I just mostly want quality/good feeling keys, good build quality, and usb (and maybe) a midi out as well.
I'm new to your channel and so glad I found you! I just completed this tutorial, thanks so much! Just wondering, what is the Production Channel Strip chain you have on each track? I tried to replicate it per what you have
Hi! Welcome to my channel. I use the "Utility" template for Ableton Live. You can learn all about it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DJqt7PT7O3M.htmlsi=IPVn64804UhGuUrr
I use the Pro version of Vital, but it is the same as the free version. The Pro version has more wavetables and presets, but has the same functions. Hope that helps!
I noticed in most of the videos you have the same exact EQ curve in the Production channel strip curve, I would be interested to know your thought process around this, cheers...
Thank you SO much, I just downloaded ableton and am giving ambient music my first go and your videos are beyond helpful. One question, I followed your instructions to the T with some creative deviations here and there, but I can't get rid of the "buzzyness" you talk about at 5:58 when I play it all together, any idea what is causing that sound? I'd like to create a vital preset that doesn't have that at all. Thanks so much again! 🔥
It's coming from the sample oscillator. Either turn it off completely or just run it through a lowpass filter using the "SMP" switch on the filter itself. That will get rid of things like that. Sound design is all about balance and you need to try and use the filters before anything else. Learning how to use them properly really changes the sound and gives you more control. Hope that helps!
i bet your videos are helpful for many but i couldn't listen, please fix your mic/eq and put some kind of compression against blasting A's and O's in your speech, those are clipping and piercing hard, which maybe can give more expression but painful to listen in headphones. sorry, but hope it helps for future content.
I'd love the free presets but having to give my address and payment details to get through the checkout is a no no, not for 8 presets. Love your stuff but there must be an easier way to share 8 free presets for a free synth?
I have a synthesizer called hydraynth, and I want to create cosmic sounds in an ambient style, bro where do I start and how do I bring it all together? I tried taking piano lessons, but that's a whole different story. Please help me out.
Hi, i followed this using ableton 12. Used Valhalla Delay with your settings. Sounded great. When i then export to wav, the delay effect seems different, almost like the delayed notes kinda get clumped together. Any idea?
Try using Ableton's delay. The stock setting with both sides set to "3" which is dotted 1/8th notes is basically what my Valhalla delay is set to. Hope that helps!
There seems to be an issue. I tried using the presets and it states they cannot be used as they were created with a newer version. But I just installed the free version so it's up to date. Just curious if the pro version is required?
In your Vital account, or on their website go to downloads and look for “more downloads” and you’ll find the 1.5.5 beta version. That’s the one you want. You don’t need the Pro version of Vital. Hope that helps!
@@s1gns0fl1fe It's definitely going to take me a while to master production as I'm new but thanks to channels like yours and generous souls like yourself it makes my journey much less of a confusing mystery haha
Hi All Just downloaded Vital in Live 12 Suite - then downloaded the free presets pack - loaded the bank into Vital and I am advised that the preset was made in a later version of Vital and wouldn't load. ???????? !!!!!!!!! any ideas anyone- many thanks in advance
C minor has 3 flats not sharps. Wtf? G sharp? A sharp? You are confusing beginners with bad theory, don't you think? Best of luck with your channel regardless of the cringe factor.
@@jjrusy7438 I understand how it sounds but for me and many other producers I know referring to accidentals as flats and sharps makes understanding more difficult in the beginning.
