Literally paused it at 4:49 to write this review... I thought you were so wrong by saying all the other tutorials were terrible, but after starting this video, I would echo everything you said. You explain everything in such a digestible way. Truly a great tutorial and I will now point all of my friends to this video to learn as well! I appreciate the video. Beyond helpful. Cheers!
Thank you! Lucile Ball was obsessed with this game. I played this when I was young but never took it up since no one around me ever ever played it. I down loaded a game app and I’m starting to play it and love it. So glad you made these simplified but serious tutorials. Thank you!
This was absolutely awesome teaching. You rekindled my live the game I learned 40 years ago and haven't played in 35yrs. I found the other tutorials on the subject confusing and lacking so much information. Thank you for a job well done.
Your tutorial's are very easy to follow (Watched all of them). You taught great with clear, easy instructions. Your strategy advice was great too. I recently took an interest to broaden myself with classic challenging games. Thanks to your tutorials I'm now enjoying playing on my iPhone. Great Job!!!!
Thank you for your tutorials on how to play Backgammon. I’ve always been curious about this game. My mom told me she was just as curious recently so I got her Backgammon for her birthday and we have been trying to figure it out. We found a few videos on backgammon but can’t say they helped us that much until we stumbled upon your tutorials. You explain it all very well and it’s so helpful. My mom also thanks you. Now we can enjoy playing Backgammon.
Thank you for being the guy who explains the terminology before diving into the rules. Very annoying when someone doesn't do that. It made learning several games from others harder, and whenever I need to make a functional or technical analysis I make sure to start it off with a glossary.
Wow you explained it so well! This is the only video where someone actually goes through the definitions which are very important and thanks for writing the points
What a wonderful explaination and tutorial on this game!! Just love it. We used to play backgammon all the time, but then life happened and we stopped playing.. We took out the game tonight and our brains were at a complete loss.. So this video came in just the nick of time.. Thank you so much.. Very easy and clear instructions
Greetings from quarantine - thank you for this series. My boyfriend tried to explain this to me, I tried googling...all of it seemed really confusing. You definitely have a gift for explaining/teaching 🙂
Great job. Concise. To the point. Easily understood. I myself have been playing for years and understand the game well. I just wanted to let you know i liked your videos. Great job.
I played this a lot with my dad when I was a little kid. Bought him a new backgammon board for his birthday so we can finally play together again after ten years.
thats the best part when you can teach someone to play and then play together. I taught my wife how to play and I have been playing 25+ years and now she got so good she regularly beats me ! :)
I knew I recognized your voice, once I heard your name I was like 'ohh the programming tutorial guy,' ha, I just happened to want to find a beginner backgammon video, once I learned the game was ancient, and I indeed couldn't find any decent tutorials on RU-vid so far, so thanks for this one! Teaching things in a basic manner for beginners is a unique skill, or talent!
Man, I watched all of your tutorials and they're great! I read an instruction many times and I didn't understand a word.. Now I feel prepare to play! :) Thx!! :) You're made a good job!!
Omg. U r so right. I am returning to backgammon after not playing for decades and wanted to relearn from the beginning. The videos I found were not effective. Thanks for your series!
I can't say anything about the quality of the tutorial because I am literally a beginner backgammon player but I just wanted to say that it was hilarious when you said flip your computer monitor upside down🤣🤣
My mum used to play with a friend of hers and she tried to teach me numerous times but I just didn't get it so I gave up trying to learn. However, I thought I'd try to learn again. My mum passed away so I looked to youtube for help and the first video I saw was titled something along the lines of "easiest backgammon tutorial".... I opened that video and 2 minutes in I was like WTF?! Then I went back to look for another and found this one. It's easy to follow what you are teaching and I am yet to watch the 2nd video but I can tell already that I'll be playing backgammon a lot sooner than I thought. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!! It has helped me big time :)
As a complete beginner, I found two other 'simple' explanations far too rapid - I had to keep pausing and replaying - and in places unclear. This is a little wordy at the beginning, I think, but the explanation is well-paced and clear ... and therefore effective. Thanks! I'll now go on to stage two - How to Move the Checkers. 🙂
Bit harsh saying the others were terrible - some simply go faster than yours and that suits more advanced gamers. Your explanation is good in that it slows things down, starts with explaining names of the board elements. The other tutorials do the same too, but a bit faster. What is confusing about your explanation is that you’ve numbered the points but as they apply to your side and not our side. For us watching, the path runs from your 24 down to 1. At least you didn’t number both ways at once, but it would have been clearer if you sat on our side (viewer side) and we looked over your shoulder, and the numbering was then reversed. Good start anyway.
Thank you for these great tutorials. They really are so much easier to understand than the other ones I tried watching. What is the bigger die with the numbers on it for?
Just to clarify, the person who rolls the highest gets to decide any location for the checkers, is any possible wrong way of to locate them, must it allways be five on your 6, three on your 8, five on your 13 & the last on the 24 & must the apponent mirror, you said here is what "I" do must that be the way for anyone or is that just what you personaly do
Thanks for these really great tutorials. For me as a german is it easy to understand although the explanations are in english and I hadn't a clue from Backgammon befor I watched your videos. You did a brilliant job. Thank you so much.
+thenewboston Thanks for taking the time to make simple tutorials for backgammon. I've watched several of them now. I'll return the favor -- a piece of feedback: If your goal is to make clear tutorials (backgammon, programming, etc), and you do a lot of them, you should try to eliminate repetitive phrases -- they do not add anything useful to the tutorial and are quite distracting. Your favorite repetitive phrase is "go ahead and". You say it in nearly every sentence, "I'm going to go ahead and move ..." or "Go ahead and roll". Not one "go ahead" is necessary to your meaning and it degrades from your overall goal. Those sentences should instead begin with "I'll move" and "Roll". On one hand, it is just a harmless figure of speech ... if used occasionally. On the other hand, watch some of your own tutorials and count the number of times that you do this. I think you'll be surprised and likely get my point. Again, thanks for the tutorials and good luck making more.
In arabic countries like my country lebanon, we play 3 types of backgammon: -Franjiyeh: its the one ur explaining -Mahbouseh: its similar to Franjiyeh, except there are no captures, once u land on a piece u stay on it and not let it move until u move out of the way -31: u need to make bridges of one pieces to be able to escort all ur pieces to the other side of the board. I dont know if u do know these games!
I love all of your videos. Its nice to see you on other things as well :) I have never played before and now I want to play and As always you have done an excellent job! Thank you for all of the help.
