Just got a banjo for my bday. Never played an instrument before. These videos are hugely helpful! (is hugely a word?)

Thank you for this. I just recently bought a banjo out of fascination for the instrument, and you make all of this really easy to understand; it's a big help.

A friend of mine gave me an old Harmony Reso-tone that's way outta whack, and I have only touched a guitar about a handful of times in my life. So this video was tremendous in helping me assess the situation. The resonator is not on it, and it's way outta tune but w/ this video I'm off to a good start.

Phenomenal lesson! I’ve learned more from you for free than the 40$ I spent on a virtual banjo teacher that spoke mostly about herself the entire lesson. Thank you! Question, I have a Vangoa but was thinking about upgrading to a Deering 2. What do you recommend?

Your banjos tone has gotten better over the last few videos. The first video sounded like it had been in the case for a while. Did you do some set up changes? Sounds good man

Actually I did. Good ear! I adjusted the coordinator rods to bring the neck in to good contact with the pot. A lot of people don't realize how much of an instrument's tone comes from the neck.

John Moore it’s true man. You can also kill tone from tightening the coordinator rods to the pot too much. Just a little more than hand tight is the ticket. But yeah the neck makes a huge difference in tone in a banjo. I actually just swapped necks on a pre war style 1 conversion I have. I had a nice maple neck on it but I just couldn’t get the tone I knew that pot could put out. So I put a Huber mahogany neck that I had on it and bam! She is cackling like a hen in heat now!

How much longer do guitar strings stay in tune? If significant, why isn't similar tech used for other string instruments?

I watched the picks video first, then I found your channel and the playlist. You contradict what you said in the picks video here. In the picks video, you said the picks you're using are better, but then claim they're not the best to start out with in this video. Very confusing.

it means they are good but not beginner friendly i suppose
