@@fusion1203 As far as I know, it comes from computer programming. Look up any tutorial on a programming language, and it's probably the first thing you do.
Finding your channel has inspired me to start trying to use Blender, which I had downloaded but didn't use because I was overwhelmed at first. Your tutorials are very clear, informative and of a high quality. Keep up the excellent work and thanks very much for sharing it.
"Now, some of you might have just discovered that your donut has disappeared." I was, indeed, starting to internally freak out a little. Thanks for the great timing!
I graduated with an AS degree in 2005 for Computer Animation. I never got into this as my career and now almost 20 years later I'm wanting to get back into 3d modeling and so far this tutorial is just amazing. I spent 10s of thousands of dollars for my education and it is just insane how much information is available online for free. Thank you so much!
Information, and TOOLS. Teenage me constantly fell into the "Open Source" rabbit hole of constantly trying out new tools and software for various things just because they're free and community managed... Blender is a great example for modelling, I use GIMP for photo editing (as probably the best alternative to Photoshop, also free btw)... I've come to the point not only is the learning all free on RU-vid, but the tools you're learning are also free! Look hard enough, and most common tools in the industry have free alternatives
I had bought a few online courses and they really show a lot (they explain pretty much every function) but this is the first time I've really enjoyed a tutorial. As mentioned in the previous part, you don't need to know everything. Praxis is almost more important, everything else comes with time. I can use the purchased courses perfectly as a supplement afterwards, but for learning and memorizing the basic functions, this tutorial is unbeatable! Thank you so much for your time and effort, you are just opening up the world of 3D editing to me. 🤗
@12:30 IMPORTANT TIP about the "Circle of Influence" that I learned the HARD way! If your proportional edit isn't moving JUST a part of the donut but the WHOLE donut, then like me, you've somehow scrolled the SIZE of your circle of influence to be SO big, that now you're moving you whole donut as if in Object mode. As a beginner I tried everything to figure WHY it was doing this. Finally, I decided that my best route to figure out what the problem was, was to begin anew with a new donut. Sure enough, I see the "Proportion Size (Smooth):" on the upper left and notced it was way smaller on this newer file. I was able to go back and fix my old bad donut file. Thank GOD. Hope that helps someone who messes up with the scroll wheel the way that I did.
This is the third donut series I'm following along with for fun since I started with Blender years ago. It's so nostalgic and enjoyable following along with Andrew after all this time. For all you people new to the world of 3d. I know it will feel hard and confusing at first, but don't give up through that first steep learning curve, it's really a life changing experience. After 3 years I was finally able to make Blender my full-time work and it all started with this donut. 🍩
Hi! I cannot get Smooth/Flat shade property through right click as Blender Guru told us. Whenever I do right_click, the donut gets unselected and no property appears. Would you be able to guide me about it?
I have been working with blender for years. I learned more in the past two videos than I have in that entire time. Things are so much faster with all the hot keyes!
16:04 - If you are not able to select edge as shown by selecting alt+left_click, it is because: 'You have checked "Emulate 3 button mouse" in preference setting' in previous video.
right of talking way too much and not explaining to the point of the tutorial you can actually get lost while he is giving A story that has nothing to do with IT
Not too mention entertaining as heck!! I still get a good laugh when watching. Need more tutorials like this. Feels less like a class and more like a hangout sesh with a buddy.
I have been using blender for more than 10 years, I use it professionally, I just this second learned about proportional editing, I’ve been loop selecting and circle grabbing vertices and then push/pulling and shrinking to deform things, for YEARS I am going to CRY why is Blender ALWAYS LIKE THIS
I'm pretty sure Proportional editing is a relatively new feature tbf, watching blender grow has been amazing! I remember first installing blender in the 2.7 days, and being so overwhelmed😭 not to mention the UI looked ugly too (as an autistic person that actually does mean a lot to me)... I loved 2.8 and the overhaul but didn't have much time around school etc, here I am in 4.2 and FINALLY learning it! So much has changed and it's great we get all this for free!
learned blender on the V2 of this series, forgot it all and now I'm back! It's honestly just as fun as I remember and the instructions are so clear its hasn't left me looking for answers. Thank you so much!
for all of you out there who are struggling, KEEP GOING, you will get it. I learned blender less than 4 months ago using this man's 3.6 tutorial. It's the one you want to watch. I would rewatch every section of each video 5 to 20 times each so ik it can be rough. I'm re-watching the tutorial to learn the new 4.0 update but I've only replayed maybe 3 sentences total. So it really will get easier.
For real, I’ve been trying these donut tutorials since the first one and I still can’t make it past Part 2…putting aside that there are parts of Part 1 that I have to skip because I can’t figure them out. In so many years of trying to learn the basics of this program I still don’t understand what any of the keys or features mean, I haven’t been able to memorize how to navigate around, and I still rely on File>New project as my Deselect button because there just doesn’t seem to be one. I feel like I’ve wasted years of my life and I hate myself for being this stupid. I don’t understand why people say this stuff is fun 😭
Hi! I cannot get Smooth/Flat shade property through right click as Blender Guru told us. Whenever I do right_click, the donut gets unselected and no property appears. Would you be able to guide me about it?
@ayeshajaved8243 You are probably left clicking. If using a laptop, make sure you are using the very bottom right of the track pad to cause the right click menu to pop up.
It doesn't have to be India all the time, I also learn from Turkey. ;) But it may be that India's population is really high (1.5 billion) Turkey's population is 85 million. So you don't need to be surprised, normal 😁
NEVER GIVE UP! I've found many useless tutorials in my time surrounding blender but by far is he the most patient and in-depth teacher. if you make mistakes just rewind and undo to a point where you're on the same page as the vid and go again.
I’m working on making my first donut now, but I gotta say, those last 40 seconds or so was the most valuable part thus far. It is a steep learning curve and we are in the middle of it and it does seem very foreign, but it’s been fun. Thank you thus far and thank you for the encouragement too.
Hi! I cannot get Smooth/Flat shade property through right click as Blender Guru told us. Whenever I do right_click, the donut gets unselected and no property appears. Would you be able to guide me about it?
I've been dabbling in 3d for too many years to count. I created and animated an Eagle Transporter from Space 1999 in Povray when there was no graphical front end, you had to code the shapes, distortion and movement in a text file. I played with the Blender Game Engine a few years back, throwing balls at a wall and dropping rain into puddles. Now I'm back and starting from square 1. Thanks for starting your series again for v4. I'm really looking forward to getting some great results. And when I make it to Hollywood I promise to put a donut in my first movie! 😁👍
Learning 3D for fun and WOW these are good tutorials. It's people like you that make so many forms of art easy and accessible to learn. thank you so much for this!
Hi! I cannot get Smooth/Flat shade property through right click as Blender Guru told us. Whenever I do right_click, the donut gets unselected and no property appears. Would you be able to guide me about it?
I've seen some breathtaking creations on the internet but I always deemed it impossible to ever learn myself. Last week I saw some amazing fantasy world and I finally decided I want to make something like that too! I found this tutorial and I am so happy I did! Your instructions are so clear and it makes it less overwhelming and very fun. 😀
Hi! Can you share some of the works/artists that you like for 3D? I find it hard to find them for some reason, my algorithm didn’t detect this part of me yet😅
If you’re making this donut right now, don’t give up. It might be difficult to get through the tutorial, but you can do it!! Just think of all the marvelous creations you’ll make once you finish making the donut!
Thank you for making this so easy. I avoided blender for years because it looked really complicated. I'm so happy I took the plunge because I'm really enjoying it! 🤩
I learned a lot of things since the old tutorial but it's a pleasure to watch it again. By now I am very comfortable watching and trying to catch that little things I missed on the old one. There's always one more thing to learn. You are encouraging people to get into blender, kudos to the Guru!

Such a great tutorial vid. Great pace, explaining the reasoning behind the tools, yet still concise and clear. Well done and thanks for making this series!
This has a million views and over a thousand comments. But I still want to say that this is so cool and fun to follow along having no prior experience. It nicely shows off some features I never knew existed while also explaining it in a way that makes me think I actually understand what's happening instead of just repeating the steps mindlessly.
Great News! I just made a donut-oid in Blender 4.0 !!! I've just watched previous versions of the donut tutorials but now I did it ... finally. So far so good! Now I'm saving a link to the playlist and wait for more! :D
first time i made the donut i gave up 80% into the build.. but now after i have done lots of other tutorials - I'M BACK BABY!!!.. challenge accepted!!! :D
i love his accent, it makes the tutorial comedic a little bit and that I enjoyed while learning blender on this video and the genuine teaching us how to work blender in a very understanding way helps out a lot on the learning there as well so thank you!
Dear Blender Guru 🙏 I just did the monkey and am now on my way to those faboulous looking donuts - I started my blender journey years ago, but too often got distracted by something and stopped learning. Following your tutorial has made me want to really go all the way with blender this time - and I am happy to have found your great tutorials!! 😍thank you so much for your work!
Good look to everyone who just started! Keep at it! If you manage to reach the end of the donut series, a whole new world awaits you! Pro tip: Don't forget to save often!
as I'm nearing the end of this video, I feel like I'm just *barely* getting started... I've played around and made a few dinky models before (I made a nifty crow, but then I rigged it wrong and god punished it for my sins) but never really had actual fun with it. It always just felt like something I need to deal with if I wanna make graphics for the game I'm making. But in just the last video and this one, I'm learning about tools I wanted but couldn't find, and I'm seeing the tiniest incremental progress and it's making me giddy as a little kid again. Thank you for what you do, Blender Guru, you've made me feel something new and amazing I never thought I'd feel about 3D, and I can't help but feel like I'll finally be able to express myself before long.

@@ayeshajaved8243 sorry the reply took so long, and also sorry that I don't really have an answer... I've never dived deep enough into Blender that I encounter bugs like that. Maybe make sure you're on the right tab? I'm really not sure at all.
This channel is honestly amazing, I learned how to use Blender 3.0 through the last donut tutorial but sadly gave up on it for a few years. Glad to see a new version's out with the same great channel making my favorite tutorial to follow when getting back into Blender!

thank you, for taking the time out to do this series, I really appreciate it some tutorials go quick over the hot key but with you its broken down at a beginner level
Did this tutorial (well, v2 of this tutorial) three and a half years ago as I was getting into 3d. Now I've been in a big animation school for three years and I'm coming back to it to refamiliarize myself with Blender, since we use Maya. And wow, this is such a fun feeling, now knowing so much more about CG softwares. I feel like a shonen hero travelling to his home village between the 14th and the 15th arc to kick the asses of the bullies that have taken it over, it's great. Also, in felt that "So many ways to save in Zbrush, like wether you want to save a file, a tool or a project... I hate Zbrush!" in my heart of heart.
Thank you man honestly I tried blender a couple times but I gave up and now I'm giving it another try. Honestly your videos are helping me so much and I can't stop watching them it's like learning new things in blender every day.
at 3:15 right click wasn't bring up the specials menu, I don't know why this happened to me but I found the short cut to help. Pressing W will bring the menu up, from there you can click smooth shading or D to shade smooth. if anyone knows why right click doesn't work for me and how to fix it, i would be grateful
13:40 : I have a problem. My Propotionnal Editing is on : ON, but when i press "G" i grab my donut and the donut move, and i can't see the circle. Anyone can help me ? :)
Thanks! Really enjoy these videos and how easy they are to follow. Informative and entertaining. Love that you took the time to do an update from Blender 3 to v4. Truly awesome!
Thanks so much for these tutorials! I'm diving back into blender after not using it since high school, and wow! I think I learned more watching your videos than in a whole semester of HS. Thanks so much!
You're the Brackeys of Blender ... or should I say, Brackeys is the "Blender Guru" of Unity ! Man you're awesome, your way to transmit knowledge is precious. Thanks so much.
In only 30 mins I managed to learn so much that I feel I had some sort of grip into the software and I was totally blank!!! You gained a new subscriber and I will watch more and more of your amazing videos! Thanks again
I got let go from the VFX industry 4 months ago and ,even if 3D was not my departement, im having so much fun learning blender while looking for a job! Tutorial is really nice to follow, the pace is awesome and the explication are so clear!! Keep up the good work :)
I have to say, even if im chinese, not so good at English and didn't know Blender at all before watching all this, im able to understand Guru's videos for 100% , thank you very much for such a high-level, excellent, professional tutorial!🔥
I am grateful, that I can learn from your videos. 3D was always a bit difficult for me, so it is just insane how much I can learn for free. Thank you very much!
Just started Blender after working a bit in Nomad Sculpt. The switch was mainly to be able to do animation. I'm hoping to learn it one hour a day as that's all my schedule leaves me and the tutorials have been incredibly helpful!
i gotta say after making alot of animated videos this is awesome. Just found blender. Absolutely love it. Looked over whelming at first but now this is awesome. The more time you put into a project the more you will get out of it. Keep it up Everyone! Let's follow others as well!
The first time i had started learning blender i had immediately quit after a week or two as it was too hard and the tutorials i watched the dude in the videos were doing the steps really quick and there wasnt even anyone speaking so it was quite hard for me to learn but you are a saviour this time i finally feel like i wont again quit blender in like a week or two and your videos really kept me intrested into learning blender and your small jokes in the videos kept me calm not like a super serious dude😂
Thank you for the tutorial and the whole series, i'm trying to learn how to use blender so I can animate, and you have really been helping me! Your tutorials are fun and simple, and very understandable. I really appreciate the amount of work you put into your tutorials. Thank you!
I didn't know you could scale verticies in edit mode! I wanted to make a blender in blender and started with a cylinder but didn't know how to make the top perfect and bigger than the bottom! Thank you so much!
I changed the levels viewport value to 12 or 16 as soon as he explained that the subdivision surface modifier adds resolution. Me and my PC found out split seconds later that it is exponential. Enjoying the course.
Hello sir! First time in 2021 I saw your videos but my English was poor and after 3 years of ,,STUDYING'' English i finely understand your videos! Thank you sir for your videos! 🙂
Insane confidence boost, my program crashed and I lost everything, but I was able to get back to where I was in the tutorial on my own super quickly. It was like a lil pop quiz lol (definitely remembering to save often from now on!)
So oddly enough I found these tutorials while doom scrolling through twitter. Now that I'm here, I'm really enjoying the bite sized sections you do to make it easier to digest.
bruh.. i have blender downloaded for video game asset making and its always been so hard to grasp... these tutorials make me excited to learn something... keep up the amazing work
The first time using the blender was so overwhelming, I was clicking stuff, and looking around not knowing what to do at first. Now that I watched this video (part 1) I can render, color, and move stuff not clicking the side of yk (I forgot what to call it), I am glad I came across this video. I made a donut, where we modified the smoothness of the donut if your GPU Subdivision is on already but still cannot see your donut after your subdivision surface already just click your GPU Subdivision (I hope this helps if u cant still see your donut).
it's thanks to people like you that i'm always inspired to try out new things! at first this app looks insanely scary but you make me feel confident in my ability to master it, so thank you for uploading this tutorial, i'll definitely try this animation in the near future!! :)
