I set up my first co2 setup. I made a few mistakes, but eventually, I got the hang of it.

I really like how the scape came out. The rule of 3rds is for safety, you unknowingly went outside the box and it came out refreshing.

Wow a South African aquascaper. Great work you did there and thanks for the video. I have been doing research for some weeks now. Planning to do a tank for myself and my daughter before the end of the year. Keep up the good work!

I think by not adhering to any sort of aquascaping rule of thumb you were able to create a unique and beautiful tank. Well done!

Hey, thank you for this sharing. Ive been in this hobby for one year and still learning new thing everyday. I appreciate your honest sharing on your experience..the good and the mistakes. I've been doing water change regularly for my old tank and hasn't seen algae problem and for my new tank I thought maybe I shouldn't do it so frequently which now I know that's not a good idea haha. Have a great day, cheers!

You have an off centre 1/3 of plants and a rule of 3 with the plant mass and 2 rocks. Bottom 1/3 intersects with the 2 rocks. You have negative space on the left where the fish swim and the eye is naturally drawn to the negative space by the relative heaviness on the right. Your lighting gives good contrast throughout the scape. So, I would say you are using the basic composition rules quite well.

What is the stone you have and how soft is your water, because with CO2 water can become Acid and dissolve the stones if alkaline. I think that is the right way round. Thanks 👍

I've had a planted tank now for 2 months now... no CO2 System, minimally stocked tank. I've been dosing liquid fertilizer, using root tabs, and liquid CO2 daily. Just recently I've been adding some liquid Potassium Nitrate to give the plants a boost. The only water I've added has been to replace for evaporation. All tests are 0.0 for ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates.When you went through the period of missing water changes, was the water still testing okay? I've heard stories from people with planted tanks that they rarely do water changes.Thanks for the video.
@McMerwe

The tank was okay, but if you dont do waterchanges you are going to battle. I will suggest at least 30% change per week.
@jeffp2935
@jeffp2935 4 года назад
@@McMerwe Isn’t the amount of waterchanges needed dependent on factors like tap or rain water, how you are using the aquarium. Like do you have a lot of fish and do you feed them a lot. The size of your aquarium does matter. For now, I am sticking to twice a month 25%.

I gave this video a thumbs up for three reasons. First it showed me what I wanted to see plus I enjoyed it. Two you admitted your mistakes and told us how to correct them. And thirdly you didn’t ask us to like the video like most others on RU-vid and was ok with gets a thumbs down.

You can grow dwarf hairgrass (sp. parvula) with no CO2, here you tried growing mini dwarf hairgrass (sp acicularis), which stays shorter but needs CO2. The parvula grows slightly longer (about 2-3 inch), but in a non CO2 tank this height takes longer to achieve and can be maintained as a low carpet with occasional (every 2-3 months) trimmings.

Hi Ashley, its not available at present. Has not been for a while. We are hoping ADA will supply some soon so we can continuously have stock, as stock has been very inconsistent in the past with other brands.

As an artist, I hate the “rules” of aquascaping. As if aesthetics were a science we could analyze and replicate. This scape has a unique, minimalist look to it that speaks of restraint and appreciation for subtlety.

Why would the hairgrass did not grow? I'm pretty sure hairgrass can grow without co2. What do you think that might hinder the growth apart from the lack of co2?
@DP-ym8zf
@DP-ym8zf 3 года назад
Different species of dwarf hairgrass. sp parvula does not need CO2, sp acicularis (used here, also called "mini" dwarf hairgrass) tends to need CO2

Thanks for showing us how to 'ADD CO2 to a tank'.... oh wait.. YOU DIDN'T. All you did was show off your tank and not your filtration or anything we want to learn how to do.
