Being in the IT industry for over 12 years and transitioning to cyber security now, this info is gold. Many certs provider should consider adding hands on labs with this information because it does make the whole different in the real world scenario. Thanks for sharing.
TestOut offers a free trial of all their courses for like a week. I used their labs in school and they feel true to life. I'm guessing they are run in containers.
Fairly new to the Cybersecurity world, but watching your videos helps give me confidence to keep moving forward in this field and adding more to my skill set. Appreciate you!
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! This is literally where I am at right now. Like mentioned by others, no one is sharing these. I have been watching videos and doing research since I decided to pursue a career in cybersecurity and you were the first one I watched, and you keep it real! MASSIVE MASSIVE RESPECT!
Thank you for mentioning tcpdump, that's something I use regularly to monitor customer traffic. I never thought to put it in my resume or profile. Also, those projects look very useful.
I graduated college for cybersecurity a year and a half ago and I've had issue come up to stunt my job searching and my confidence was low. These vids have given me that confidence to get up and going again and I'll work towards the google cert and work my way through the skill sites you mentioned. That way Ill gave a great looking CV. Thanks for being straight forward and not cryptic.
Thank you so much, I have recently started a cyber security course, as was looking for projects/courses to supplement my learning, this info will help me a lot, thank you for sharing
Watching this made me realize that I made such a great decision to make you my RU-vid mentor. I’m glad a couple of the skills mentioned here I’m currently going through them and super stocked that there’s more practice I can do in Coursera, HTB, and THM!!! You’re a stud man! I hope one day I can meet you in person and shake your hand!
I dont have enough words to say thanks to you. I have never seen any other channel that gives such an amazing content. While watching your videos I feel like I am having one-one talk with you and you are solving my confusions and giving me advice.. Your each video has some answers to my questions. Your words give me confidence when I was thinking to give up learning cybersecurity. Keep mentoring us we need genuine and honest people like you!
You are good... Real good sir... I have watched in some hours 5 of your videos on cybersecurity and Imust say I think i should have paid you for all that knowledge ... Wow... I have taken notes and hopefully i will succeedd with guidance from your information
@@UnixGuy I'm in Ghana and I want to make a professional change from education into IT, cybersecurity to be exact. And I've considered some IT schools here are in Accra, Ghana who want to take me through a hardware and networking course for 5 months and a cyber security course for another 4 months for a diploma. But after I saw your video on the Google and IBM cybersecurity courses on Coursera I'm thinking of what path to take ( go to the IT institutions here or take the Coursera course). What do I do please? The institutions seem to charge more than the Coursera courses... However, I'm looking at the industry here in Ghana and what to them would be credible; an online professional certificate or a locally acquired certificate
you just make my mind so clear sir ! 1) get google certificate 2) follow your coursera course 3) go for hack the box lab practice 4) Get a try hack me medium lvl course
Unix guy you have given me the confidence to transition from Nurse for over ten years to become a Cybersecurity Analyst I have completed the Google Cybersecurity certificate and now save up the Blue team level 1
This is some of the best or say golden info that will help any beginner to get that entry level job that they been trying to get with gaining confidence from these projects.
Thank you so much for these tips; they are really precious. We can obtain so many certifications, but without experience, they are useless; I achieved my Cybersecurity Diploma last month through a 3 months BootCamp program, which was intense. As you said, there were many theories even though there were some labs, I needed more experience. I am currently enrolled in THM Soc level 1 and halfway through. I did struggle with the Trafic analysis wire shark part though. As you suggested I will start with the IBM project, Thank you again!
Can you please show me how to do a CV for CCNA so I can just get an overview or even to just tell me, you give so much helpful advice, so happy I ran into your video
@@UnixGuy thank you so much, I just wanted to clarify, you have been such a big help and boosted my confidence back up, I appreciate the info. Will share your video
I'm starting the second course of the Google Cybersecurity certificate, and I just wanted to ask whether it is a good place to start? I'm really excited to start learning and I also have the opportunity to take a pen testing course at my University. Thank you so much for your videos. They have been helping me a lot! ❤
This is BRILLIANT! Just started HackTheBox and it is amazing. I was worried it would be all coding and for genius level only so I have never tried it but wow... I so wish I had started this earlier
Great job. May I ask you some questions that I always wanted to ask them to a person who has a big knowledge in this field? - If I did some "Python" projects which are related to Cyber Security Field and put them in my CV, Would that be a useful thing for me, or HRs don't care about that ? - Is there a difference between a "Cyber Security Engineer" and a "Cyber Security Analysis" ? and if there is a difference between them, Which one these projects in this video are suitable for? I mean who should do these projects. Is he the "Cyber Security Analysis"? I am sorry if I bothered you with my questions, sir, but I am a beginner in this field and I have many questions that I need answers for them. And thank you for your great efforts. I really appreciate your hardworking to help the others.
This is just what I needed, thank you so much!!! Do you think it's best to do these projects instead of Sec+ and then get an intermediate cert? I think you talked about it in another video but I don't remember which. Since I just came from the "3 beginer cybersec certs" video, I was thinking that maybe taking sec+ and the others is a waste of money, just go directly to projects and then the mid level certs after a couple of years. Now I'm wondering if doing an Associate DEgree was the right choice, instead of doing just projects.
Thank you for your wealth of information, UnixGuy! I’m a new subscriber, and I want to switch careers. What path would you suggest I take first- take the Sec+ exam or work on labs?
You Rock! Thanks so much for the information and inspiration ‼️‼️It seems as if the tcpdump course is deleted. Any suggestions for a replacement?? Thanks again!!
I hear you, not all HR are great but I can guarantee you a lot of rejections come from hiring managers not HR and yes people need to get better at giving feedback, hope this video helps you overcome some of the keyword filters
Hi I have been watching your videos and massive respect to you. In every video you talk about mentoring hundred of students/people. How can i reach you for career guidance. Thank you!!
I think this is what every security analyst requires. Not expensive certifications. Its all about having knowledge about the tools and building projects.
Edit to my previous comment on here: I've just landed my first IT helpdesk/Dispatch role with an IT company!! After watching all your videos and taking some of these workshops and adding them to my CV I have finally got my foot in the door! I'm going to keep adding more and gaining more certs whilst gaining the experience in my new job. I start in 4 weeks! Then hopefully I can get into Cyber Security as a SOC analyst! Thank you!
@@UnixGuyThank you! I hope people do read this and get inspired as your videos have helped me accomplish this and I will forever be grateful! Thank you again for your amazing content and can't wait to see more! I'll also keep you updated when I start!
This is exactly the video I needed right now, very grateful 🙏🏼 Also, for anyone studying for Security+ I recommend you do some of these trainings first. I did not, but it would’ve been immensely helpful for me to understand the practical implications and connect the dots so to speak
You are a goldmine of information, nobody else gives such actionable, practical advice. Other people just say do Sec+ then CCNA etc. etc. Thank you so much UnixGuy.
@@UnixGuyOnce we become proficient as a Cyber analyst, how does one go from there to a Security Architect?? Thanks so much for the amazing knowledge and expertise!! 🙏
Thank you so much for giving a clear and useful pathway to the beginner who just started from scratches. There are tons of information and its really hard to figure out which one we should choose and in what manners. Please keep posting such videos. We really appreciate your effort.
You gave me the motivation to switch my career to CS last mont now i have my google cs certificate and was lost between so many advices and channels, here you are again, showing me the right path again.. cant thank you enough! 🙏🏻
This. Is. AMAZING! As someone who just started out as a security analyst I must admit that everything in this video is no less than very useful information. Thank you for sharing it!
I just finished 3/8 of the courses for the coursera google cybersecurity certificate. I can't wait to complete it, get the CompTIA security+ and apply these tips to my resume!
This video is GOLD. Thank you! I just finished my Google Cyber certificate and this is exactly what I needed to feel confident to move forward in my journey. #1 channel for cyber security hands down!
You are super amazing for sharing your knowledge on how to break into Cyber Security. Because of you, I've started the Google Cyber Security Professional Certificate at the beginning of September 2023. I've learned so much from it and I can't wait to learn more and more especially from all your recommendations!
Massive, massive respect and praises to you, my man. I'm almost done with post graduate program. But I could have just as easily followed your advises and gave me more satisfaction to my learning. You've given me a clear path of what I need to do to get my foot into Cybersecurity.
I am actually in the process of finalizing my Google cybersecurity cert and your video could not have come at a better time. This a goldmine of info and i cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share all this. Most of these complementary courses really solidify one's understanding and with enough practice anyone with no prior experience in cybersecurity will stand tall during interviews and explain it all with confidence. A big thank you and you have a new sub
@@DreamBig9912I'm halfway the course, but I was saving money for the Comptia Security + but you're talking about the Security+ only, which one is better to do after the Google course?
This is a straightforward, no BS outline for anyone looking to get into the field. The value in this one video is priceless. Thank you for your time, for sharing you knowledge and for making the video content easy to understand. Keep up the great work!!!
The top cybersecurity channel on youtube. Thank you for providing this much clarification in a new and vague industry, especially for those trying to enter. Continue doing what you're doing! Great content as always
