Question, Nicole, do you starch your fabrics?
@darvanaleedesignsstudio
@darvanaleedesignsstudio 5 лет назад
Great question hun..l use best press on my fabrics, for patxhwork,but rarely for English Paper Piecing...if the fabric that l am using has lots of wrinkles then yes, l will definitely use best press.. thank you for the question ...and thank you for taking the time to watch ❤❤❤

Great tutorial!! Tip: once you attached, the six hexagons around the center the way you did then pop the paper out of the middle hexagon, which makes it easier to fold the center back to Saul the sidewalls up. Hope that makes sense.

Love your idea of no glue and just going through the corners. I'm going to try EPP now that you've made it so much easier. Are you using a single strand of the thread or are you doubling it? Thank you, great video.
@darvanaleedesignsstudio

Thank you, so glas u liked the video...Just a single strand of thread will be fine 😊😊

Just curious why you didnt use the hole for your pin? Otherwise, the pin distorts the template when it bends it. Some sides may be just a bit shorter due to that. I Do love using my Wonderclips! I put 3 clips, one on each alternating side to avoid the template scooting over, then I start folding my sides.☺️

Great tutorial! I'm a total newbie....What's the advantage of basting gluing the flower to the square, as opposed to pinning? When you sew the flower to the square, do you aim to stitch thru the square cloth only or the fleece too? Thank you!
@darvanaleedesignsstudio
@darvanaleedesignsstudio 4 года назад
Hi there lovely, the advantage is that you dint have to use pins to secure while you sew...and if you were doing lots of quilt blocks you can batch sew them and have them ready go...this will save a lot of time 😊

Good morning. I noticed you knot your thread. I was told not to knot it, so when I pulled out thread, it would be easier. What is your opinion? I am still learning EPP and living it.
@darvanaleedesignsstudio
@darvanaleedesignsstudio 2 года назад
I dont need to remove my threads as l dint go through my template...that is why l knot...if l was sewing throughtbthe template then l would not use a knot...

What type of materials are best to make a quilt?
@darvanaleedesignsstudio
@darvanaleedesignsstudio Год назад
Hi Naomi, l always use 100% quilters cotton...but not all fabrics are equal. I like to use high-quality materials; brands like Riley Blake and Moda are always a good place to start. But many other fabric houses have excellent quality fabrics too...avoid really cheap fabrics. As they say you get what you pay for 😊
@naomiwillie1818

Oh okay thanks. I am from Papua New Guinea and am a quilting fan. Maybe I can just look for cotton fabrics to do my quilting. I have done bits and pieces here and there but haven't quite done a proper and complete piece. I learnt from an Australian woman who came to my country due to her husband's work contract, and she taught us women in church activities.

It is not truly English traditional paper piecing if you glue paper inserts, which is problematic within itself. Tip: hand basting is very quick, requires no circular rotating table, and is totally portable. As you baste down the corners in the process (never sewing through the paper) you automatically solve the 'corner' flap problem. When sewing the pieces together whip stitch them FLAT not front sides together. In this way, the stitching threads NEVER show in the seams and the finish is incredible. Perfection IS achievable. Juxtaposing the pieces in this way makes joining large pieces into a quilt far easier to work with, in fact, quite a pleasure rather than fabric wrestling! You can also ease fussy cuts matching to perfection this way very easily. When stitched, paper removal is very quick and easy, you just lift them out to reuse them later. Choose a fabric that is easily stitched by hand as some printed fabrics can be quite tough and are better for machine stitching projects.
