Thank you, SO MUCH, for all of your videos, Omri. The learning curve for the entry level of learning modular synthesis is pretty steep, even for an experienced musician. I don’t think I would have half of the understanding I have now of modular, if I didn’t find your videos. In about 3-4 months, by way of studying synthesis, sound design, modular, etc. - Your content has been in the top 3 resources for understanding modular, in general. For VCV Rack related stuff, I think you may take the cake for the most understandable, straight forward education. Beginning to finally wrap my head around modular, especially as a sound engineer; learning modular has been a super positive life changing experience. My aspirations for music and for life are forever changed - With many thanks to folks like yourself! Props for all of the time, effort, passion, and consideration you put into your content - It makes a truly major positive impact on the world. Keep on riding the waves! 🌊 🎹 ⌨️ 🎶 🙂😎🤘🤝✌️

Imo. It's the filter/envelope modulation that make the chords sound alive. I love routing the cutoff,attack, release etc. To a joystick in my modular. Basically even though the chords are the same, you're never hearing the exact sound twice.

Great tutorial! I started a dub techno patch once and never finished it, like most of my projects, haha! So on the basis of that extensive experience, here are my tips: Try a module called Sangster for delay, it's got that dubby lo-fi sound where the tail feeds back and starts breaking up. Plaits/Pallette is great for those stabs as it has a chord mode built in. Handy if you're lazy like me. For stacking effects, use the aux sends on Mindmeld. You can assign a send effect to a bus, and then add sends to that bus. Great for adding reverb to delays, but you can also use two different delays and get them feeding into each other (might be called groups and not a bus, it was 6am here when i started watching so I can't remember. You'll figure it out!) Finally, put the delay into a stereo low pass filter and reduce the cutoff with an envelope. Then trigger that envelope with the same trigger you're using for the chord stab so the repeats start off bright, and gradually get duller like an old tape delay. Maybe I'll finish that track one day....😉

cool patch. I use Instruo Harmonaig+Saich for the chords and an EQ for each voice to control the frequencies. In the mixer I have some different combinations of Chronoblob and Plateau as send effects. And Noise! There can not be enough noise :D

Great stuff as ever Omri, thank you! I like these chord sounds, I’m going to copy them. One question - I would have thought that with the sustain all the way down, then the release wouldn’t do anything on the envelopes, but it looks like it does. What gives?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 2 года назад
Thanks! The release will kick in as soon as the gate will close. this means that if you have a short gate, just like from this sequencer, the release will also have an effect. I hope it makes sense
@chitlun
@chitlun 2 года назад
Great video man. I had no idea you could type the notes in to get the pitch! Does this work on just the VCV oscillators or do other ones do this I wonder… Cheers Omri, peace ✌️🍄
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 2 года назад
Thanks! And it depends on how the oscillator is working. If the tune knob is set to Hz, and the range is enough, it will work. For example, the Instruo neoni is working from 0 to 1 so it will not work. The same with KickAll from Befaco because the range is not enough.

Hi, first all thanks for all the great tutorials you've been sharing from a complete noob. Then, i tried following this tutorial and everything has been great up until the end, the chords are working perfectly but when I tried also copying the bassline i definitely run into some troubles. the settings for the two modules look pretty simple: clock triggers the sequencer that in turn triggers the kickall bass module. NoteSeq16 seems set to defaults and kick all configuration is simple. And yet my bass sound completely different, it's flat and plain and it definitely lacks some "ooomph". Yours sounds deeper and also like there's some kind of delay but the module looks plugged straight to the mixer. I tried tweaking kickall's setting but can't understand what i'm missing. Is there anything glaring that I, being the noob I am, might be missing? Thanks!!!
@OmriCohen-Music

@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Месяц назад
Hi! I'm using the Clocked module from Impromptu as my main clock to drive the sequencer. Basically, with each clock pulse, the sequencer advances one step. I'm also using the MindMeld mixer to mix everything. But in any case, you don't really need any of this for the chords themselves. You can use any other chord generator (also a Midi keyboard or the DAW if you have the VST), and the mixer is there just for the other voices.
