________________________________________________
Today, Teacher Ellie will teach: 为什么 (Wèishénme) = why
________________________
To soften the tone of "为什么 (wèishénme)", we usually add the question word "ne" at the end of "为什么 (wèishénme)". This phrase first appeared in the Spring Festival Gala when "小沈阳 Xiǎoshěnyáng", a comedian, used this phrase in a very interesting way!
________________________
There is an encyclopedia in China that is called "十万个为什么 (Shíwàn Gè Wèishénme)". This translates to "100,000 Whys".
This encyclopedia answers questions such as:
Wèishénme táng shì tián de?
为什么糖为是甜?
Why is sugar sweet?
Wèishénme tàiyáng hěn rè?
为什么太阳很热?
Why is the sun hot?
________________________
These questions in the encyclopedia offer great examples of how to use "为什么 (wèishénme)" in a sentence. You can place "为什么 (wèishénme)" in the front of the sentence, and that's it! You're done!
Wèishénme nǐ xǐhuān Chéng Lóng?
为什么你喜欢成龙?
Why do you like Jackie Chan?
________________________
In English, people often say "Why me?". In Chinese, we say:
Wèishénme shì wǒ?
为什么是我?
Why me?
________________________
Speaking of "why?", do you know why jealous lovers "eat vinegar" in the Mandarin Chinese language? You can learn more about this here: bit.ly/2vXWcZX

Thanks for that there, just took it as a WYSIWYG, kinda sounded cool and uplifting, never really knew. We use a bit of Greeklish around these parts, looks cool spelling english with Hellenic characters e.g. ΓΟΟΔ ΜΟΡΝΙΝΓ) plus you can get a laugh out of translating sayings back and forth because the results are just ridiculous sometimes.
