This dude's a genius. He made eq'ing easy. From now on, I'm not watching other engineering tutorials unless they are from dan. this dude knows what he's talking about.

Amen to the idea that the other manufacturers just try and sell you something. The series on EQ and compression by FabFilter are the very best vids on these topics on the whole Internet. In showing us how to get rid of mid range mud in the mix, Dan gets rid of mid range mud in an explanation on how to use EQ. Wonderfully clear

Also THANK YOU FF for these long after-market tutorial vids. Yes, they are promotional aids, but one can tell a lot of thought was put in to make these genuinely helpful and informative. Cheers!

tutorials like this make me want to buy their product. they care about the quality and development of the musician/producer. Thats how ADAM Audio got me sold on their speakers. Same with Sweetwater. Their customer service and care for the consumer makes me want to buy everything they produce. Take my money already! lol

As I newcomer to the art of of mixing I have learned more in 30 mins of listening to Mr. Worral's EQ videos then I have taking multiple paid classes and watching countless hours of RU-vid videos over the last year. It is very obvious to me that he is a genius at his craft. I believe most people will recognize this 5 minutes into this video. But if you stop there you will miss the magic of listening to Yoda explain EQ. Mr Worral may of missed his true calling or maybe he is just discovering it. Either way I win and so will you if you are patient. Thank you sir.

If every single pedagogue throughout my life had sounded as cool and relaxed as Dan Worrall, I'd be a Nobel Prize winning, genius polymath. I could listen to this chap all day long. Clear, succint with excellent visual cues to augment the tutorial. Absolutely superb series. And clearly superb plug-ins too.

A very well trained ear as well as a very good trained brain is required to go so fast. as well IMO the recording and arrangement are spot on before the mix stage. But there are very good tips in this video to put the aspiring engineer on track. One here that is fed up by seeing You Tube´s tutorials made by people who have no idea. Thank you very much really, the help from Fab Filter post sale is very apreciated from my part, also to me very helpful the comparison with mixing consoles. Intelligent demonstration that helps clear the mind

This is where iZotope's Ozone starts to really shine. As much as I love the FF products, I've got to give it to iZotope for coming up with a brilliant interface and toolset for handling these sorts of EQ tasks very efficiently. The way the interface allows you view and EQ tracks together, get visual cues as to where they are competing, and create EQ points with inverse relationships is genius. I just wish FabFilter and iZotope would hurry up and get married! They would have the most amazing children. If the developers at Cockos were their marriage counselor, the whole world would be Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

My main problem with EQing in most cases is that all those "boomy" " and "harsh" sounding characteristics all sound interesting and good to me, so it ends up a never ending cycle of balancing stuff to the point where all sounds too much like a mess. How to mix is something one never stops learning I guess.

Great EQ tutorials, I wish there were more parts. I am still learning to make best use of reference tracks, but do a list exist of well mixed-mastered reference tracks of different genres? I know its not correct to just pick well written music, because its the mixing-mastering that counts for reference tracks. Such a list would make the ear training part of this EQ tutorial very useful. I personally have selected many reference tracks from my own cd collection, but I am sure that some of those tracks are not mixed-mastered the best.
@Mukna132
@Mukna132 9 месяцев назад
I know this is from 6 years ago so you will have answered this yourself. But for anyone else with the same question, the answer is if it sounds good, then it is good. There's no such thing as an objectively good mix or master, only subjective ones. Some of your favourite mixes may be 'objectively terrible' (e.g. The Killers When You Were Young is incredibly compressed, distorted and crowded) but subjectively, it's amazing (that same Killers song has a lot of energy and just sounds massive)
