Honestly “what are your settings” is actually a great question. It allows new guys to have a solid starting point to then tune in their skills. It does save them lots of time and waste. We all know your setting won’t be my setting but it will ball park them. Rather than them chasing bad settings plus bad skills a bad weld with close or spot on settings lets them know it’s their skill and can just focus on that. None the less great video.

This was the best simple intro to tig welding I've seen yet. You did a very good job of breaking down how it works. I'm not a welder, but I am into photography(moving and still). Tip, if you are standing in front of a white board and you are not moving a lot. Like you were in this video. Turn off the auto focus and manual focus on the white board. The softer focus on your face will be less distracting than the focus pumping between your face and the board. If you have enough light you can go with a higher F stop for more depth of field. Often you are better served by a higher F and higher ISO. Balancing image noise for depth of field. Not sure what your camera rig is but even cell phones support manual settings. Please keep doing videos your content is really helpful.

Sweet jesus. I just took a basic 1 day hobby tig welding course at a local welding school this saturday. I was doing great, then came home and played with my primeweld tig 225x. I was NOT doing good. Turns out ALL and i mean ALL my settings were way off from what you recommend. Not only do i now umderstand my welders settings perfectly, i understand what each setting does and how to use them for a good weld. WOW man. Thanks. This was PERFECT!!!

Excellent video. I am a complete newbie welder and just bought this machine for the purpose of home hobby. I am a machinist with 30 yrs experience and work in a precision metal fab shop. I've watched welders for years and worked closely designing and building fixtures for them. Now I have a whole new respect for them! This is not easy. Anyway, I've got an understanding of the aluminum welding, despite most of my beads are lousy. Occasionally I lay down a good one which tells me I'm capable, just need practice. My problem is on the DC side. Now matter what I do on steel or stainless, my heat signature is huge and I can't seem to lay down a decent ripple on flat plate, butt joint, corner, etc. I have unlimited access to metal. Please tell me a good thickness material, tungsten size, filler size, etc to practice on. Tell me the settings and then I can spend days just doing that until I get it right. I just want to rule out the other variables and practice only my skills.
When it comes to settings general rule of thumb you use is one amp per thousandth of an inch so 1/ 8th inch material you would run roughly 125 amps but things like travel speed and feeding your rod are all variables that go in to a good well as well I have another video where I go over settings on this welder

Ive been practicing on aluminum for a month and just tried some steel today to fix my exhaust. I was not ready for it to be dead silent! I thought i was deaf for a second. the other big thing ive found is making lines on a practice sheet is easy but then doing anything other than that is really hard. edges and corners and cracks just evaporate compared to the center of a sheet. this tool is a lot of fun
i tell ya. i probably watch more youtube videos than most. i look at huge variety of subjects because i love to learn things. the this video is a great find. lots of good simple info to get someone going. always have to watch 20 vids to find that one good one like this.
Nothing has helped more than the advise here to use a high(er) frequency, like 120-140 Hz, while TIG welding aluminum. I'm sure there are times when 60 Hz is called for but for starting out 120-140- Hz has really allowed me to start to see that elusive stack of coins instead of my typical sunken molten mess. Thanks!

I’m welding some SS probes 0.035 wall milled out to 0.020 and having a bugger of a time with too much heat starting off. I think it’s the pedal, it doesn’t seem very feathery. If that makes sense? Just way to much amperage starting off. Trying to figure out a way to have a less volatile start to the weld. So your videos are really helping me to understand the troubleshooting process around it. Thank you so much.
Dig it! Only thing I wish you added was what to do with the other switches. I grabbed a view that most were zero’ed so I think I got what I needed (besides seat time)

Just got around to using this welder after having it for a few weeks and what a big difference between the harbor freight titanium and this one. No comparison whats so ever not even close. The whole time I thought it was me not knowing what I was doing. You can actually see and hear the difference just in the arc. I went through 4 Harbor Freight welders (2 tig 200 and 2 unlimited 200) and when I tried to post a bad review they wouldn't post it which is BS. I did get my money back and for $100 less I purchased the PrimeWeld.
Hey mam love your vids. And agree with what you're saying but as a car racer, we know what our camber and caster is. We know what our toe and shock settings are. You are a really good welder and some people asking are not as negligible as you are cuz they are office workers by day. You are a very talented welder and the average person is nowhere in your range. You could teach them. But that would take years. Anyway understand how good you are at what you do. And how good other people are at what they do. You cant teach this stuff in 2 weeks but you can help. I love your channel. Have learned alot. You are unbelievable talented welder and we are blessed for you to help us learn. Just do think we know what you are doing. We know half at best. Thank you man.
Great video! It's true that the settings aren't super critical. Any experienced welder can make good welds with the settings plus or minus 25%. For this reason, I prefer machines like the Primeweld 225x that have analog knobs--you don't need digital accuracy on the settings, and you can tell at a single glance how the machine is set up, without stepping through all the menu settings.
Great video. I only do one thing different. I up the amperage by 15%. That gives me a foot pedal that is smooth, More than that makes every foot movement quirky. It may be just my machine 👀. I can always adjust.
Hi, and first off your grandfather is a way cool guy to hear talk about welding. I have deen watching your videos because I have two younger friends that each want a welder of there own as my old miller sincrowave 300 has pooped. I started welding in 1972, went to class A GOV in 1978 and retiered in 08. I showed them how to use this welder so I did not have to weld all there stuff. At this point they have each gotten a welder, one guy, primeweld 225 TIG, other guy, MIG 180. How cool is it to pass on a Skilled trade as welding to 2 friends. I have watched a gaziIlion vids on welding and yours are the ones I tell these guys to pay attenion to. And to grandfather, virt up, as you know is an art...
I have the same machine. I am attempting to relearn how to tig weld. This is a completely different machine than I’ve used previously. When welding DC tig if I cut the pulse function off all together I would get an arc but for whatever reason ( probably me) I couldn’t get enough heat to start a puddle. I’m befuddled.

Great job. Now, let kick it "up" a notch. I have been welding over for over 25 years. Miller Dialarc 300 (Yes antique welder) it has 1 switch and 1 knob. After 50 years, it's finally giving me "fits" So I got a Primeweld TIG225 AC/DC. Everything you did here is spot on. Now lets see the tech. I have learned allot about pulse from Jody and Justin and Tony and 6061, and ,and ,and, But nobody has a great video on 4T. You are young so I am guessing you haven't had to ask your 8year old grandson to stand here and press this peddle while laying under a trailer or whatever.....More,More,more...NO less.less. Okay stop. Lol.
Lol actually I have to do that frequently at work "have some one else run the peddle " and I find the people that are best at it are the people with zero welding experience because they just do what you tell them lol. But most the time if I am laying on my back I stick the peddle between my knees and runit that way. Thanks for the sub,👍

Can you show me setting for very thin aluminum?. I’m a experienced TIG welder. I am just having trouble with this machine I think it might be broken. Haha
That is definitely this machine's downfall is the lowend of AC I think it has a 30 amp startup on AC what I have found is if you turn your frequency up to around 140 that can help tighten the arc up . Or if you run a fast pulse like 150 200 pulses per second with a 30 or 40% dwel time that can help on really thin aluminum as well
People are taking about base settings. If you look under the hood of most mig welders the give you a baseline.... so say you like to move faster and like it hotter you can turn up the amps.
I have a aluminum 10AN fitting I need to get welded onto a cast aluminum oil pan. Do you still recommend the 120 Hertz and other standard settings that you mentioned using 90% of the time when welding those two pieces together?
I find that when welding cast I will turn my balance up a little bit more like 45% EP seems to help clean it a little better but besides that I usually run hz still at 1: 120
@@amcustomfab and that includes when you're welding cast to a thinner smaller piece of machine aluminum like a fitting correct? I only have to install this one fitting onto this cast aluminum oil pan. Everything else I'll be doing is going to be stainless pipe for exhaust piping and intercooler piping.

absolutely love it only complaints so far is the startup amperage on aluminum is a little high so if you're welding anything under .045 it's a little more difficult but besides that zero complaints
Can you tell me the height of the PrimeWeld? I built a cart that barely fit my AHP201XD. But sold that thing. Want a prime weld but heard it was slightly taller. I need to know if it will fit where my AHP use to fit into.
@@amcustomfab will that void the warranty? That’s what burned me on the AHP. Buying from a 3rd party vendor was the reason they wouldn’t honor their warranty. Both my 200 and 201XD had issues around the same time and they told me they couldn’t warranty it since I didn’t buy direct.
I have tried about everything on aluminum welding . Too difficult or lack of detail info on you tube. I cant get it to pool and its so stressful., I bought several aluminum 1/8 and 1/4 plates to practice on. Using 100% argon and I brush clean everything I set my argon at 20 on flow valve and other settings as indicated on videos and NOTHING!
Upslope and down slope only apply if you're using the t4 function. And I show in the video what my balance and frequency is for most everything I run my frequency around 1:30 and my balance at roughly 30%
Mine is great on dc....ac starts are weird....its probally high frequency contacts...with the weird noise and contacts not being right but u shouldn't have to run in one spot when u have all the adjustments
It depends on how big you want the welds. Most the time for 1/4"you don't need more than 250 amps and you can get away with less with other tricks like preheating the material or using specialty gases
People are asking you what their settings are because they just bought this machine and have no clue what to do or how to weld or aert up a machine for that matter. Lol
I don’t know why you are getting so triggered by that question. We are asking because we have no idea what a “base” setting should be and when we change something, what it is effecting. Love this comment if you realize you need to be more understanding.
