Thank you for the list and beginner tips. My fist project is 1990s Sony 5 disc cd deck that has a removable break out board. I need to figure out why sound is not coming from board I assume a bad capacitor. Rest of unit is functional.

Could be a bunch of stuff but check for bad transistor. Also do a thorough visual inspection and see if anything seems burned, bulged or bad connections, etc. I always do that when units are that old. Remember you might not be the first one to have been in there. Look online for the service manual, sometimes you can get it free in PDF. It will have the voltages that should be at certain test points.

@@RetroRepairGuy yeah my thought for 10 bucks worse case, I could get practice removing items from boards and testing continuity. My expectations are low for getting it to work but who knows it might fine something easy wrong with it.

My latest video is out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Woo1-DSzc5A.html I restored an old drum machine that was extremely dirty. It's a Yamaha RX5 which is the same model used by many groups in the 80s including a-ha, Prince, Madonna and Vangelis. Hope you enjoy! I worked really hard on it.

You're saying to set your soldering iron to 365f-374f/185-190c? That won't work well... especially for unleaded solder. And in your video you're actually showing that you're setting to 365c, not 365f.

He did a good job, Remember he is Canadian he mentions that why beginners shouldn’t attempt Xbox because of unleaded
@Toby_Q
@Toby_Q 3 года назад
@@plexnbrown760 Yeah I get it, but you're unlikely to desolder much at 185-190c, even leaded solder. The board will soak up heat and it'll take so long to desolder, you'll likely damage the part.

Hi Toby. For the solder I specifically recommended 60/40 for beginners since the melting point is lower. However you are correct I mixed up the Celsius and Fahrenheit. 365 Celsius is correct but I miss spoke and that's much higher in Fahrenheit. I'll put a correction on the description page. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

@@plexnbrown760 @Toby Q Thank you both. I did note the correction in the description above. Yes I am Canadian and because I tried to think for American viewers to say it in Fahrenheit but I got mixed up. Sorry! But yes I do mention the unleaded being difficult for beginners.
