Beginners Guide: How to pick your first kit and build it 

Hi there. Thanks. You are right...a lot of people have said that I should have hand painted this kit. I will put up another beginner's guide this time using a brush :)

At about the same age 58 years ago I bought my first kit, an Aurora P-40 Warhawk. It was a poorly molded model even by the standards of the day. I cleverly masked this with globs of glue and gluey fingerprints all over the finished model.

I'm just starting out in the hobby. Have a few kits from when I was a kid that I tried, and am going to go back and finish ones started and complete the others. That sounds like a great idea! My neighbor does cars and got me hooked! I have some planes and a few cars for now. Would be a good way to build up what someone has though!

@@ChurchTrombonist if you want I could give you my email. we could swap emails around the community along with pictures of models and see what others think. I actually like civilian models of light planes and old propeller type airliners. I've just gotten tired of military models and I got a bunch so it would seem to be a nice way to help others & others to help me. Enjoy the hobby.

Hello mate.... I have a few videos on how to hand paint the kit without an airbrush. I have never used a pencil to paint the entire kit, so don't know how that would turn out. Most people use an airbrush or a paint brush.

Did I use after market parts for this kit? I don't remember. But I almost always use Hannants UK for aftermarket parts as it is easy to search for stuff there and they usually have a lot of choices. For this kit, I found this page. www.hannants.co.uk/product/AC12457 Hope that helps :)

Hey Heath...in hindsight I should perhaps have gone with modelling paints. But the idea I was working with was that not everyone, when starting out, would want to do buy them. When I made this kit I was in Mumbai, India and getting paints over international mail is very difficult, well it used to be, till Mig and Vallejo came along with acrylic paints that the authorities let you order by airmail. Anyway, if you using an airbrush and kind of paint is ok, you will just have to familiarise yourself with the consistency and thinner mix. For hand painting, I would recommend acrylics, they are much more forgiving. Since this video, I have made a few more beginner guide videos, this time with modelling paints, that you might find useful. Good luck with the hobby, stick with it, its most rewarding :)

Hi Sudhir, the place I used to order most of my kits in India was from Hobby Link Japan or HLJ.com. Also there is a shop in New Delhi that you can order a few kits from, toychamps.com. hobbyeasy.com in Korea is another place you can order from. Just make sure you don't order too much at one time or else your package may get stopped by the customs. What I would suggest is that you join ISM (Indian Scale Modelers) on FB. A small and active group of model makers who are always up to date with latest discount deals and such like. Hope the helps. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have :)
