Hello there fellow model makers. I know that the title of this video is slightly misleading. It should clarify that this is for airbrush beginners. However, I have since then put together a beginners' series for hand painting a kit as well. Please do check those videos out if you want to hand paint your kits: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8YBrTCtSTkI.html This link is to the complete build. If you want a more in depth tutorial, I have a more detailed four part series from this same build. Hope that helps :)
Hello from France, Many thanks for yours 4 videos on the Revell Spitfire 1/72 and for the tips ! Ago the lockdown i started to build some scale Model kits and i love it ! AWESOME job on your Spitfire. All the Best.
an excellent series of videos; I think I'll head on to ebay and buy this kit, the last time I built a kit I was about 20' I am 66 now so this should be interesting. Thanks for the great series and the re kindling of my modelling interests
Thanks for this I really enjoyed the build, taking up modeling for a hobby to enjoy during my retirement next year and this has given me a good starting point.
fun video to watch but waaaaay to much black wash at the end tbf... Now it has a black touch on every single peace... Planes aren't always that dirty. Now it looks like he had an oil leak that leaked on the whole plane.
I was just surfing RU-vid when I came across this series of beginner videos so I just watched having nothing better to do. While not a beginner (40 years of modeling) I have enjoyed your series very much, I picked up a couple of tips that may improve my modeling (ex: the use of Liquitex for gaps. Keep up your videos since this is the best beginner video series that is on the site. bigrip74
Turned out really nice :) I'm building this one myself. It's a pretty old kit and doesn't go together well so you've given me hope that it can look good in the end!
Don't you apply gloss varnish before applying transfers? It make easier to put them in place Regarding chipping, i use a silver acrylic pencil above a mat vernish coat, works great. Otherwise great video serie for beginners. :)
Hi Jean. Actually I apply a gloss varnish at every given opportunity. I did apply one coat after painting but not after painting the identification bands on the wings. They were really too small to pose a worry for decaling. Also, I could not put everything in this video. My editing skills are even more limited than my kit making abilities. About using acrylic pencils, I had even shot a sequence about using them for this video. But just couldn't put it in. I thought I may end up confusing a real beginner by providing too much information. I have used acrylic pencils several times, they work great. I am glad you liked this video. I am doing this for the love of this amazing hobby and want more people to take it up. Thanks for the comment and good luck modelling : )
I have just bought this kit to day I am all ready between doing the German half track and the British sas jeep but imam going to start the supermarine spitfire mk.v tomorrow
Hey there. I did a series on hand painting kits. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oaCMgX6e8uM.html Do check it out. It may prove helpful with the build. Good luck :)
Hey Stephen....yes I did. I try and apply the varnish in light misty coats. If need be multiple coats. It is much better to add than to try and subtract in modelling. i.e. I can always add another layer of matt rather than end up with too dull a look and then try to recover by adding a gloss varnish coat. So, I usually go by a ratio of 1:2....one part varnish to two parts thinner. But always, test your varnish and how much you need to dilute it on a test piece, before applying it to the kit. Hope that helps :)
Thanks Daniel. I usually use a fine set of tweezers to remove the masking. Just be very careful not to scratch the paint while using them. And do let me know if you have any particular model in mind :)
Thank you for replying and for the tip. Could you show us in a video how you remove the masking as I don't want to ruining the paint. I'm going to be cheeky and request three models. 1/48 revell - eurofighter (single seat or twin), typhoon fighter and F15E strike eagle. Once again thank you for a great vid.
Hi, Yes I make the worms out of Blu-Tack or UHU Tack (which are the same thing). I mostly use a gloss varnish or Future/Pledge. Only in the end as a last coat, I use a matt varnish to dull the shine if the plane is looking unrealistically shiny.
In this video I used artists varnish for both gloss and mat. The idea was to demonstrate to beginners that these commonly available cheap products are also effective and get the job done. I also use Future/Pledge for gloss varnish and sometimes AK mat varnish. In my experience you can get good results with any product as long as you experiment with them and learn how to use them correctly.
