Hi David now i may sound like a dumb but my question is what's the difference on between the pedal and the bar on the guitar for the effect of the Whao sounds sorry for that question thank you David you always good help im still learning👍
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 5 лет назад
Hi Raul and thank you for watching this lesson. Regarding your question the bar on the guitar is called a tremolo arm or whammy bar. By rocking that arm it changes the pitch of the note and you can do it very subtle for a vibrato like or shaking of the note effect or very deep for dive bomb and all kinds of crazy sounds can be achieved by working the bar. The pedal on the floor you are talking about is a wah pedal. This is a different effect. The wah pedal alters the tone and frequencies of the guitar signal to create a distinctive sound. The pedal sweeps the peak response of a frequency filter up and down in frequency to create the sound. Both awesome things you can do with effects. Keep up all that hard work on the guitar and be sure and subscribe to the channel and stay tuned for lots more content and lessons coming soon. And rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.

Thanks a lot for this great video and explanation! I have just one question... Where would I place an EQ through the FX Loop if I want to use it with Modulation and Time effects pedals? Thanks a lot!
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 3 года назад
No problem at all Oscar and thank u for checking out this video - most appreciated. Regarding your question on EQ pedal placement. Like I was mentioning in the video there are no rules set in stone and you want to experiment and see what sounds best to your ears. With EQ pedals a lot depends on what u want to achieve with the pedal. For starters you probably want it before the delay and reverb pedals for sure. But then it gets personal. Some prefer to mold and shape their guitar’s primary tonal character before it is processed by other effects, but others prefer to adjust the EQ of the finished sound. Or maybe your distortion pedal’s EQ controls just don’t have enough bass or treble and you need to tweak its tone a touch more. So al to comes down to how u want to use the EQ pedal and experiment to see what works best for you. Hope that helps Oscar. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer lessons and songs taught in the same format - lots of fun stuff. David I am new to pedals, I use tone studios but pedals are just better in my opinion. I really like the simple set up you showed in front of the amp, my question is when you’re running distortion pedal‘s should you change the amp to the clean tone? I have a boss katana 50 and it is a high gain amp, It does have a clean and an acoustic setting I like the acoustic setting because of the super clean and clear tone, I get confused whether to turn the distortion on or off?
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 3 года назад
Hi Frank and thank u so much for checking out this lesson - really appreciate that. Regarding your question - there are really no set rules for which channel to have your amp on with effects - it all depends on what sounds you are going for and what u like best. However there are conventional wisdoms - and then of course you want to experiment and find what sounds best to your ears. Most players run their effects through the clean channel of their amps when using distortion or overdrive pedals. This is so they get the pure sounds of the pedal and not have the pedal color then added with more amp distortion from the amp distortion. You could run it through the distortion channel though but that adds more gain on top of the gain from the pedal - so unless u like that sound you probably want to go thru the clean channel. Because remember too that if you run it thru the clean channel then you can turn the pedal off and kick to the distortion pedal of the amp and then you have the amps distortion channel, you have the amp clean channel, and you have the amp clean channel with the distortion pedal u can engage. Try it like that and see how u like it and remember to put the overdrive pedal in front of the amp and try it with the gain on the pedal turned down a bit and the level on the pedal up a bit to help push the amp. Make sense. And if you are interested in a deeper dive I have a whole course on Gear and Settings and signal chain called THE GEAR GUIDE - Its a complete guide that eliminates the distortion from the seemingly overwhelming number of choices and settings we have today. Over six hours of lessons where you will learn which pedals can I put first and last in the chain, Which pedals do I place in the effects loop and which in front of the amp, How to go about setting a whole rig as far as the signal chain, the difference between overdrive and distortion, How does spring reverb compares to hall, room and plate reverb, How do effects loops work, what are the differences between analog and digital delay, What’s the difference between tremolo and vibrato, What do all those parameters and knobs mean on my pedals, How can I easily nail down a classic electric blues tone, And so much more! Hi, I got a blackstar code 100 today .I see in the the back it has send then right mono then left (not mono) there linked together with a line none say return .bit confused any help. Good channel.thanks.
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople Год назад
Hi there - regarding your Blackstar Core 100 amp the effects loop for that amp has a send and a stereo return in case you are running in stereo - like a left side and right side. But for just one amp use you just use the two jacks for the effects loop - the send and left return, which is mono. So hook the input of your first effect to the send of the amp effects loop and connect the out of the last effect in your chain to the return left mono jack of the amp. Then you should be good to go! Hey nice channel. What's wrong with a daisy chain? And would I need to put my looper pedal in the loop effect so my delay would be Before it? Is it better to have a looper last I mean, in the effect loop.?
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 4 года назад
Hi and thanks so much for your kind words and for checking out our lessons - so appreciated. The best power for your pedals is independent power sources - chaining them together, via daisy chain means they share that same power and more likely than not you will get all kinds of noise and performance issues with the pedals. Always try for independent power sources like I mention in the video. I think Delay is best in the effects near the end of the chain. As far as looper pedals, keep in mind they are not effects per se but more a recorder. And you can place them in various parts of the chain depending on how you want to use the looper. There isn't any hard and fast rules so you want to experiment with placement. Keep in mind that an effect placed before the looper will get recorded to the loop and then switched off for the next layer. An effect placed after the looper can be switched on and off while the loop is still playing, but everything coming out of the looper runs through it. If you create multiple layers, the effect will be on every one of them. This can be a powerful creative tool. So a lot depends on how u want to use the looper and often I find most of my students find the sweet spot in the chain after some experimenting for watts works best for their scenario. And If your looper has multiple outputs, each loop can be processed and effected individually. This works exceptionally well if your looper has independent switching for each layer; reverb on the “drum” layer, fuzz on the “bass” layer, delay on the “rhythm” layer, etc. This will help set your layers apart from one another. And be sure and take a good look around the channel as we have lots of killer lessons and content taught in the same format. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. if you have your timed based pedals plugged into your effects loop and your overdrive pedal in the front of your amp, how can you plug your timed based effects into your guitar?
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 2 года назад
HI and thank u for checking out this lesson. Im not sure I totally understand ur question. Let me explain a bit. With effects there are no rules per se - just conventional wisdoms, and lots of experimentation and trail and error and see what sounds best to your ears. I do like overdrives and distortion pedals before the amp as then they tend to kick the amp a bit harder and drive them a bit. So out of the guitar and into those pedals and then into the front of the amp so those pedals are before the preamp and power amp. And I like delays, reverbs, and modulation effects in the amp effects loop so they are in between the preamp and power amp. Hope that helps. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. Hi and thank u for watching this video and for your kind words - really appreciated. There isn't any right or wrong way to hook up ur rig per se - you want to experiment and find what sounds best to your ears. But there are some conventional wisdoms. Personally I like delay and modulation effects in the FX loop of the amp. So you may want to try at least putting your delay then then gate in the FX loop in that order. You may have to adjust the gate setting so it doesn't cut off your delay trails. I like the modulation effects like chorus and phase in the FX loops also - but many like them in front of the amp. I have a really cool video on delay and getting good delay tone you may want to check out here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aOzVPJzpUKU.html - these these and let me know ur thoughts. I have a question..if you would be so kind.. I have a Strymon Deco pedal.. it’s a two-sided box like many of Strymon’s… Saturation on one side.. tape delay on the other.. So would it be a “modulation” effect..? Thanks man.!👍🏼❤️ I can’t find this info anywhere on UTube..😩

Hi - the tape delay would be considered a delay effect and I suggest putting that in the effects loop near the end of your chain if possible. Not sure what u mean by saturation - does it add gain/overdrive? And thank u so much for watching this lesson - most appreciated. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. I'm using the effects loop on my Marshall for a chorus and delay utilizing the send and return, I want to also use just the return to run a Boss DS-1. Without having 2 returns can I split the return using a 2 into 1 cable to accomplish this?? If no, is there another way to do this? Thank you!
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 3 года назад
Hi Chris and thank you for watching this video - most appreciated. First off I also like running delay and modulation effects in the amp FX loop. I wouldn't split the return as you may run into some signal loss. I suggest if you want to run the DS1 to hook that up in front of the amp and not have it in the FX loop. That pedal, and most OD and distortion pedals, in my opinion, sound best when placed in front of the amp as then they kick the amp harder and push it a bit more. So try it in front of the amp and keep the delay and chorus in the FX loop and see if that is the sound u want. Why did you want to run that DS1 in the return only - just curious? Experiment as there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to hooking up pedals - just conventional wisdoms pretty much. Hope that helps and be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer lessons taught in the same format - lots of fun stuff. @@rockongoodpeople I got the idea regarding using the return from other RU-vid videos but after experimenting it doesn't sound good at all doing that. The best and cleanest sound I get from my rig is to run the chorus and delay through the loop and the DS-1 out front. I appreciate you engaging with me !

Love your channel and I am going to have a serious look at your guide course. The question I have is why use pedas when your amp already comes with gain, reverb, etc.? It's a question i've had all my life. Why buy pedals when amps comes with lots of different sounds already, like clean channel, lead channel, gain, effects, etc. I know I'm missing a obvious or logic answer but it's better to ask here than look like a fool asking my fellow musicians. Thanks for everything that you do.
@rockongoodpeople

Hi there and thank u so much for checking out my videos - really appreciated. To answer your question there are so many different amps on the market and while some do come with effects built in some dont and some just have a clean channel. Some amps do come with a clean channel and an overdrive channel but at times some players may love the clean sound of a given amp but hate the gain channel. So that clean channel can be a great platform for pedals and then they can use their favorite distortions and other effects. Some amps that come with effects built in often those effects may not be the sound a player is looking for as they may prefer the reverb they get from a certain pedal. It all comes down to personal preference. And often times amps that have built in digital effects like chorus or delays or chorus often times the controls or parameters of those built in effects are not great - you get way more control with a pedal. Its hard to find one amp that has every sound in it that you want as well as a great clean sound and a great dirty sound. So often pedals are added to color or get a certain effect. Hope that helps. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. I guess,. Its up to your convenience which effect pedal you line up first. 😁 Since I have a multieffects pedal. I guess, looper comes first, then any type of delay, then any type of distortion, then finally overdrive for you to make adlib solo. 😁 Then finally the wah pedal comes in last. Irregardless of how many pedals you have. XD.
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 3 года назад
Hi Carl - yes, a lot of pedal order comes down to personal preference as there are no rules set in stone. However, there are conventional wisdoms. Some of those that I employ is putting delays and reverbs more last in the chain and in the FX loop if possible. I also like distortions and overdrives in front of the amp so like coming out of guitar first into wah then into overdrive drive pedal then into front of amp. Then delay and reverb in FX loop. With a multi effects pedal you can try lining them up however u like but try overdrives more in the front and delays and reverbs in the back. Just a suggestion.
