Thanks for the yeswelder plasma cutter. As a result I ordered that same unit directly from Yeswelder as they had a promo code giving a 30% off an already lower price, plus free shipping. I am new to the metal works, having been an accomplished woodcrafter for over 30 years. Thought it time to do something I’ve always wanted to learn. Being 78 your never to,old to learn. Thanks again I am a huge fan of your channel. Signed The Old Student!

@Bruce Pugsley thanks for your support man I appreciate it! AWESEOME score on your plasma cutter! You are going to have a ton of fun! I'm 51 and I still learn new things every day. It would be boring if we didn't. I worked with wood for a liitle while and I have to say you are going to love the transition - Hardly no dust equals a clean workshop. If you make a mistake, just add metal. Much easier than wood in my opinion. Enjoy your new purchase and thanks again for your support! 🙏👍

Im a newbi here with my first plasma cutter, one comment when cutting out a shape or shortening a piece of metal, use the guide clamped to the part you want to keep. The guide will protect the piece from any wobbles like the demo cutting angle iron, the guide was on the wrong side and his vertical cut took out metal from where it was needed. 2nd tip. Want to cut a perfect round hole. Get a thick washer and center it over the place for the hole. Just weld it through the center to the base metal, then using the plasma cutter, go around the washer keeping gentle pressure against the washer and down on the job. The hole will be perfect if you keep the tip vertical. The washed dia plus the tip diameter equals the hole size. Its that simple.

Great video tutorial. I just bought a Vevor Cut50P because I had a lot of 1/4" plate to cut for a project. My pancake compressor ran all the time so I added a 5-gal portable tank and now my compressor usually remains off until I'm finished with the cut. I really appreciate your table of amps, air and material thickness. Nothing like it in my owners so it's a big help.

Brandon your a Fantastic teacher. Don't know your entire background wether you came from the welding industry or some type other Trade. Ever think about teaching youngsters in a vocational school setting or just a high school setting just to introduce the youngsters into the trades. After all some body has to build/ fix things that are broken. Know your so busy doing your Videos you probably not interested because you reach so may people this way. But the kids nowadays can't seem to get off the social aspects of their phone/lap top or other devices. Anyway your an asset to RU-vid and to us guy's and girl's that want to learn new and useful stuff. Thanks alot have a great new year😊

Great video Brandon! To help with the consumable tip wear and easy straight lines I picked up a guide that slips over the gun tip and has 2 little wheels that lift the tip slightly away from the surface you’re cutting. Also comes with an attachable rod that you can cut perfect circles with. I am NOT in any way associated with this company but I purchased mine from Eastwood tools.

Brandon, just a follow up on my plasma cutter. It was interesting. I have a CUT 50P that I got about three years ago. I took your ideas from you video and I found two problems. 1. The electrode was nice and tight but the electrode cover was a little loose. 2. Where the plasma cutter torch connects with the actual machine was quite loose. I tightened it up. After that, my plasma cutter works great. I haven't had any problems getting the plasma part starting up after the high frequency starts and I'm close enough to the material I'm cutting the plasma comes on and I'm cutting. So thank you very much. Watching you welding and plasma videos have been a great help in learning to fabricate metal.

I had trouble seeing when arc welding so now I use a bright spot light aimed at my work piece and that’s helps a lot.

Great video! I have a PrimeWeld Cut60 (great machine) and I'm new to plasma cutting. I have learned that I really suck at freehand cutting. I've been tempted to get a CNC table.

Thanks man! There is a small learning curve but keep at it. Freehand is hard for me too.

@@BrandonLund I try to use a straight edge as much as I can just like you showed. I'm going to get me a pair of tinted glasses like you mentioned.

I find I must use welding gloves because the arc gives off a bunch of heat. My welding helmet goes down to a shade 5, so that’s what I use - which comes in real handy when it decides to shower me in molten steel. Also wear a full length leather apron so the steel doesn’t burn through my jeans.

Lot of guys use a shade 5 but it really depends on what you're looking at. The torch can hide the arch so a shade 5 is sometimes enough. I prefer using a guide and an adjustable weld helmet. I use the Jackson true view. I prefer a shade 9+ for plasma cutting. Next step purchase is an Archdriod because hand cutting is tough even with a guide. I made this mistake cutting stainless which is like cutting a mirror. Number 5 was not enough but I'm ok. No I'm not a pro, I'm a hobbiest. I know a weld arch is a weld arch regardless of the machine making it. Don't trick yourself into thinking a shade 5 is enough for all cuts. Get an adjustable helmet and trust your instincts based on the cuts and material.

I actually have that same hood and within the last couple years been running a Fronius. They are both pretty sweet. I don't like cutting using a hood. Maybe it's just my eyes, I seem to run a shade or 2 less than most. I mig weld at 9 when I'm under 120 amps and stick weld at 10. Been doing this with fixed and auto since i was 15....im 53 now with 20/30 vision.

Thank you so much for posting this. I weld but grew up in a era where only oxy was ever used. I'm out to buy a plasma cutter now
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 месяца назад
You bet! I'm in that same era so I can relate. Plasma is a game changer for sure as far as cutting but there will always be a need for Oxy when bending and shaping.

Thank you for taking the time to give a good overview of a plasma cutter. I've been doing home welding projects for years and use a lot of bed frames for things like garden carts. I was tired of the mess with cut off disc's and ordered a similar plasma cutter. Just wondering why you don't use the wire clip on stand off guide. Very good content and explanation of the features and use.
