The best demonstration I have ever seen clear and concise by a man who takes a pride in his work without the usual needless chatter one often gets , I'm retired now but used to love ploughing sometimes competing not always having the first prize thank you once again .

Wow! My hat's off to you! That's a beautiful job you've done. Never find a field that smooth around here unless it's planted already. There's not a whole lot of plowing done around here either. It's almost all vertical tillage. You've also inspired me to update my plow rig to something mounted. That tired, old trailer plow of mine is for the birds!!

Great vid kv. The contractor who does the ploughing where I work ploughs the headland into the hedge so when he starts ploughing the headland he leaves a deep four. So when I am working the field down with a power harrow you have to run up and down the four 2 or 3 times to level up the soil. Your way of ploughing the headlands is a better way because it leaves the field level.

I've been retired from agriculture for many years now. My ploughing was done with a 7000, TW 35, 4755 and 3680 with 4 furrows up to 6 (Ramsomes/Kvernland/Dowdswell) on mostly heavy land so i can relate to your style KV. I was a demonstrator/ATB instuctor for five years and knew my way round a plough and i commend your skills. Any up and coming ploughman/woman should take a look at your work, it will stand them in good stead. By the way, i'm very critical of ploughing so i don't give praise lightly. Top video Well done mate.

How nice to see some ploughing done similar to my dad tought me, the old fashioned way as you say and he was very particular. If you could you would finish by driving out the gate and not leaving a wheelmark anywhere. Most of my early ploughing was one way, I found it easier in some ways using a reversible. I particularly remember him going mad if you LOST your ends....in other words always take a little bit more when you drop in as he said it is always easier to lose an end than gain it, using the good old independent brake just before dropping down was the trick. Mind you if you gained too much he would say that you had left a bit not ploughed, another pet hate of his when ploughing!

Thanks Paul. I think alot of the younger generation nowadays arnt getting taught all the little tips and tricks and actually setting one up. I think the old school ways should be taught, not just jump on a tractor with auto steer

@@GEOFFKV6080 Yes I agree it's a shame because it saves time in the end, like if you don't leave a hole ( hog trough as it was called in Lincolnshire) you either don't have to fill it in or it doesn't end up as a big puddle. Having said that I was also taught to spend a bit of time sorting out the ditches and ends when cultivating first time over, like filling a silage clamp I was told look after the sides and the middle will look after itself......a lot of these issues are down to time pressure which often comes from financial pressure. It doesn't value things like looking back and feeling satisfied......as you said not always perfect but the best you could do on the day. Oh and the GPS etc....lovely but as I noticed you were looking behind checking and looking down at your front wheel etc.......you can't do it all looking at a screen. Good luck with the cropping. I was able to put your method to work this afternoon on a field that had never been plowed before. One end in sod, the other previously forest, so bare ground. Sod end was a little bit of a pain, but we maneuvered it into reasonable shape, and the forest end came out just like you described. My headlands look level and am very happy with the result. Have enjoyed your videos and like your common sense way of doing this job. Keep up the good work!kent allen

Cracking old school ploughing. Really enjoyed it. Do you match plough fella.. As a ploughman of over 40 yrs and have to work.min till, give me ploughing every day. As my old dad said ALL god creations need oxygen to live.. this min till means only one thing black grass...on the headland on 14" your dead right kevernland great plough but will block.. Mind I find on 18" it tends to flow thru a bit better. I guess that extra 4"makes a big difference. (Least that's what the wife says.) Magic video enjoyed it immensely. Even learned a thing or two. Champion lad.
@GEOFFKV6080
@GEOFFKV6080 4 года назад
Thank you for the comment Simon. Have done some match ploughing also do some judging at our local event. Iam not s fan of min till, but I guess that's the way it's going, I don't like seeing all the trash left on top I much prefer to see it buried. The skill of ploughing will be lost on the next generation. You'll be able to teach me a thing or two with 40 years experience. On the kevernland I find the trash rides up the leg and gets stuck up against the beam and skimmer leg right pain in the arse some days, that's why I carry a spade to unblock it.
@simonprice1938
@simonprice1938 4 года назад
@@GEOFFKV6080 to be honest the kv is a great plough but personally I prefer the KUHN vari-master. Trash doesn't seem to collect.... as for teaching. Personally as long as its clean, level, fairly straight, for commercial ploughing thats all that counts... As long as the next generation goes I do think ploughing is like lots of other things, it's in favour then out. I think if sprays get banned ploughing will come back big time.. For me? Its only a matter of time before glyphosate gets banned.. far too much pressure to ban it... still keep up the good work.

Hi Geoff, I’m new to ploughing, done slot of mintill work but not a lot of ploughing. What is the best way when your 0n your final headland, that when you,pull out of the field for the last time that you don’t leave any hog troughs in the corner. Also we have some fields on the farm that are surrounded by hedges and have an entranceway in the middle of the field. How do you then plough to that without leaving a mess? Hope you are well and thank you for your great videos. Kind regards Will

@mickpbarry
@mickpbarry 2 года назад
How do you work a headland where you plough back into the ditch? You wouldn't always plough back into the field, so next year, you plough the headlands starting at the ditch, and plough back out. I know Kuhn ploughs, for example, swing the other way, so you can, on the last run, not rotate as much, and keep the rear furrow out, instead of the front on, the way kverneland does. But for Kverneland ploughs, how do you prevent a big dip on the last run?

Do a know your tractor series start the back and do the spools and talk about the double acting and when you use it what float means and what the taps do on the spools and the specs on different tractors like open centre and closed centre hydraulics . Then do the pto like 1000/540 shaft and when you use each and the pros and cons of each.then work your way round the engine and what everything in it does under the bonnet, then do the axel brakes clutch tyre pressure etc
@raymondbrisson5361

Good video by the way. Bookmarked. I have a tractor that had duals on so the rear wheels are 24 inches from the inside edge of the tire to the center of the tractor, plow manual calls for 32 inches. Could I leave the tractor wheels where they are and basically run "on land"? Or do I have to spread the wheels out to what the manual asks for. The Plow is a model 57 Massey Ferguson.

@GEOFFKV6080 4 года назад
Not sure really, I've never used a vari width. We have talked about getting a 4 furrow vari width instead of getting a 5 furrow that's fixed working width, the theory been we could open it up and still cover same ground as a five furrow but without the extra leverage on the tractor.
