I genuinely love Revenge so much, man. Oath Violator is genuine fucking kino. My first time hearing it I was banging my head so hard when washing my dishes.
A lot of people say war metal sounds closer to grindcore, and that is what turned me to it was it had the same attack as grindcore just like.... holy fuck
It is a super niche and perhaps pointless destinction but I totally feel you. I would put as examples like Conqueror/Revenge/Death Worship or on the modern side ASM as “War Metal” whereas something like Archgoat, Bestial Warlust, Von or Mystifier that sort of thing as “bestial black metal” the main difference being the “War” bands have a much more straightforward militaristic sound with less atmosphere and more focus on just being straight up violent sounding meanwhile the “bestial black” bands obviously still are super raw and aggro but they have more of a dark textured atmospheric sound to them that feels almost more ritualistic and pagan vs just straight up trench warfare sounds. The “war” bands to me often have more stompy moshy parts as well whereas the bestial bands tempo shifts lean more onto the doomy side. 😊
I’d say the best starters are Blasphemy, Archgoat. Antichrist(Canada), Conqueror, Deiphago, Impiety, Zygoatsis, Proclamation, Teitanblood, Black Witchery, Diocletian, Sadomator. Some my personal go to favorites!!! I been noticing the immersing in War Metal more I myself am pretty selective. Funny thing is Deicide influenced Marduk. You should do a vid on your books I personally am interested cause I read not as much as I use to but I now l stick with Audiobooks cause how busy i am.
Hey Drew got some more goddamn metal and rock in the CD collection. 5 CDs. AC/DC - Highway to Hell Warbringer - Woe to the Vanquished Kreator - Gods of Violence Helloween Battle Beast - Unholy Savior Now I bought another CD on top of those. Epica - Omega. Unfortunately, upon opening it, there was a Black Crown Initiate CD inside instead. So I need to rebuy it.
My only gripe with metal (any subgenre) is when a riff goes on for way too long. I just recently got into grindcore because they seem to change up riffs constantly. If a riff is repeated more than 4 times it's immediately boring
Great video man. I’m an almost 50 year old metal fan from infancy; yet I learned a lot here. And the term War Metal is still better than when people call SOME great bands “Stoner”.
Thanks a Lot drewcifer, seriously i heard bestial warlust and proclamation years ago, like 2010 i guess but i dont get the real meaning thanks to you compadre, like say Yesterday one more sub here From Barranquilla, Colombia 🇨🇴🤟🍻🤟🤟, salud !!!
Bro i hope u know about this band Genocide shrines a band from my country Srilanka. They are gonna play With Diocletion,Zygoatsis,Surrender of Divnity and Death Worship in Bankok few months later.
I am one of those guys that doesn't like the term "War Metal" for multiple reasons. 1 being the bands that get that label don't like the term and if you were to ask them what genre they play they will either tell you Black Metal, Black/Death Metal, or Bestial Black Metal. 2 some people often think that term describes a completely different subgenre when in reality it is a microgenre within Black Metal. 3 the term doesn't really capture the heart and essence of many bands under that style as it implies that the genre is about war when warfare is only used as a means to the end in the genre. Many bands labeled "War Metal" such as Beherit, Archgoat, and Manticore have no lyrics about warfare but rather are about Satanism, Blasphemy, Occultism, Killing God and his followers, and Desecrating everything that is holy. Even Archgoat said in an interview that they hate the term "War Metal" because none of their lyrics are about war but rather Satanism. Bands that do feature some War lyrics like Conqueror, Bestial Warlust, and Abominator are almost always in relation to Satanism and Blasphemy and overthrowing the light and enthroning the Satan and the Black arts of Desecration. Overall the core of the lyrics and themes in "War Metal" are about Satanism and Blasphemy so the term doesn't really get to the core of what the bands in that style are about. 4 I feel this label is really used to deny them their actual genre which is Black Metal as I have ran into someone that was dumb enough to say Blasphemy isn't Black Metal and that they are "War Metal" because they don't sound like Darkthrone or the Norwegian bands and to refute this claim I will say that Blasphemy is Black Metal as almost all of their musical influences with the only exceptions being Repulsion are Black Metal as they are heavily influenced by early Sodom, early Kreator, early Destruction, Bathory, Sarcofago, Vulcano, Holocausto, Possessed (This band although is the first Death Metal band they are also a first wave Black Metal band that influenced the second wave), early Sepultura, and Hellhammer. Also just because Blasphemy doesn't sound like Norwegian Black Metal doesn't mean they aren't Black Metal as Master's Hammer, Impaled Nazarene, Rotting Christ, Profanatica, Necromantia, Samael, Mortuary Drape, along with countless others don't sound like Norwegian Black Metal but are nonetheless still Black Metal bands. They just play a style of Black Metal that is different than Norwegian or Norse style Black Metal. The same is true of Blasphemy. Also if you were to ask Blasphemy or any other credible old metal authority figure such as Paul Ledney or The Magus from Necromantia what genre Blasphemy play they would tell you they play Black Metal. Overall I think the terms Black Metal, or if you want to get more specific, Bestial Black Metal do a much better job at describing these bands musical style as ultimately that is the genre they play. Also I think the term Bestial Black Metal sounds a lot more badass than "War Metal" as I picture Abominations from hell raping nuns and murdering priests while setting the Catholic Church ablaze when I hear that term. Like I said before though all of those bands whether we are talking about Blasphemy, Archgoat, Abominator, Conqueror, Black Witchery, Manticore, Beherit, or Proclamation would label themselves as Black Metal if you were to ask them what genre they play. All in all I think I made my point loud and clear.
Genre names are just useful conventions, if war metal was called "extreme black punk" instead you'd have some bands complaining because they are more death metal and therefore don't fit in (WE ARE DEATH FUKK YOU), it's never ending, hence why microgenres have their limit. It's all extreme black/death to me.
Ive been following your channel for about a week . Ive watched all your war metal videos and thanks for introducing to the genre. Diocletion is fucked and evil as hell and they annihilate everything. 👍👍
No, it has nothing to do with what I like. It's fake because it's not a sub-genre of metal. I've never seen or heard of a band label themselves a 'war metal band' and the bands you referenced in this video aren't even labeled as war metal bands by respectable metal sources. Edit - Apparently my further replies to you aren't showing up in the thread... There are zero bands listed on the Metal Archives when searching for the War Metal sub-genre. 2nd Edit - Yeah I don't know what's going on... Every time I reply to you it just isn't being shown for some reason. So that's that. Have a great day. @@Drewcifer
@@metashadow3924 You're acting like I made this up. Just google "what is war metal". You do know all these genres are made up, right? The gas mask sporting goat gods didn't descend on to Earth and bestow genre titles to us. War Metal IS a commonly used label for this style of metal.
@@metashadow3924 1) No idea why your other replies aren't showing up, YT is dumb. 2) Metal Archives also doesn't list "bestial black metal" as a genre style either. That doesn't take away from the fact that both "bestial black metal" and "war metal" are commonly used terms for this style of metal. At the end of the day it's the music that matters, but "war metal" and "bestial black metal" are no more fake or "made up" than "black/death".
