Man I'm 40 and started in 1986 but have not been skating latley, feeling down. Your opener made me cry and I can say I still skate. Thank you. Skate or die.
I can second that brother, Im 41 going through the same thing. I think alot of older guys are getting back into skating, specifically bowl skating. Im learning right now myself. This coronavirus has alot of ppl down and I think skating is saving alot of ppl's lives right now. Saving them from depression. Giving them a new lease on life. Its awesome.
bro, when you said "skate or die" at the end, it made me laugh so hard. I'm 47 and learning bowls, and I used to say that all the time back in 89-91'...haha, good times.
I just picked up a board after 22 years of not being on one. Falling hits different when you're 40. LOL. Most fun I've had in years though. I grew up and forgot how liberating skating was.
As a 30 year old getting back into skating, this is the best instructional video I've ever seen. You explain everything so well. thanks for the videos my dude.
Say I really liked your video. I find it inspiring that your not only doing it, "Skating" but also sharing the experience freely. I tore my shoulder up 2 yrs ago BMX at that exact park. That injury, turning 50, being over weight set my confidence back tremendously. I "LOVE!" skateboarding. Throughout life It helped me get out of my head. And express my self creatively. And in the mid to late 80s I was good at it. I've layed it down and picked it up many many times. Ive exposed and coached 2 generations of nephews and 3rd gen. my 16 yr old son. To skateboarding. I've had my son on a board since he could stand. But I'v struggled to keep up my momentum. My passion for "it" still burns in my heart. And you've inspired me to come back out of my head. I tried to start carving that bowl and just got frustrated as hell but recently relized my board was not set up for it. So I've made some adjustments (new set up😉) And I'm planning to get to work. My son and I frequent that park. I look forward to running into you ther somtime, So I can shake your hand. You just convinced me that I'm moving in the right direction. Good Stuff Man!
Thank you my dude. Picked up a board at 35 and busted my elbow within the month, thought I was too old for the scene. Guys like you show me how it's done.
39years old, 15 years without being on a board. I started 3 weeks ago to learn how to Ollie again but also: bowl and drop in for the first time in my life. Thank you for this video. I really related to everything.
Pffff amazing guy!!! The last minutes just said all, deep into the heart. I am 34 with two kids, one 11 one 6. I still feel like a kid myself but with some wise approaches to life. Now I am learning how to dance Salsa, to Surf, bought now a Surfskatw to go to the bowls... i dont know man but i am nailing stuff faster now! I feel that i lost much of my life rising kids and work hard, but now i am just unstoppable! Just do it!!!!! GO!!! You my friend are an inspiration! Rock it all man! Thx for the boost 🤙
58 OG here, and starting up again! We had no skate park, so all street riding. We have some awesome Evergreen parks here in MT, so by the end of next summer, I will be riding the bowls. Thanks for your videos!
Dang ol boy! Just finding your videos on a rabbit hole i traveled down with you tube to see how dumb i am looking at 44 in a month from to pick back up skating and now all i realize is it would simply be dumb to not get out and do it! Never having been that good of skater in the late 80s, early 90s to begin with it was nothing for me to hop back on a bike and not skate. Today tho i feel there was always something id missed out on! Thank you brother!🙏🤙. I also found you on the ig too! Ill be going back into the skate shop here shortly to dial in a board that feels good again real soon! Stay safe out there!
dude i fucking love you. i'm 32 and feel so sketchy trying to skate again... and my dream is to simply carve a bowl so thanks for the content! haha you make me feel like so much less of a loser wearing my pads too. cheers brotha!
Great tutorial and a lot of wisdom. I'm just starting at 55 and finally "get" bowl riding. It's a continuous ride of fun, for me, it's all about the carve... Keep em coming. And always pad and helmet kids, as well as the protection they give they also boost confidence.
I’m 54 and just getting back into ramp and bowl after decades away from it. I’ve always just cruised on a skateboard every now and then but after just quitting dirt bikes and road motorcycles I have decided to get back into surfing and skating… everyone thinks I’m nuts haha but I don’t care, gotta stay young and the feeling of being back on surf and skate boards is awesome! I actually just bought a Smoothstar surf skate as well and I’m loving it and I will be using that in the bowl because it carves so much better. They aren’t cheap but I highly recommend it so far. To all the old guys out there , I salute you… also wish you many more years of skating and being injury free and to the Prodigal Sun, thanks for making this content man, the more stoke and support the better. Cheers
63 yrs, never skated but a lot of inline skating. Bought a longboard recently and have been practicing for six weeks now and starting to feel comfortable and ready to try an ordinary skateboard. So much fun!!! Thanks for the tutorial!!
Great video and instructional! I am 60 y.o. and just started skateboarding a week ago. I went to a skate park for the first time today. Your tips will help me tremendously on my next visit to the park.
Sir Dude, you are an inspiration and a born teacher. It takes courage to pick up a challenge and show the world what you can do. Kudos for wearing and taking about safety gear especially the helmet. Keep on Trucking/Gliding. Love the Thor! 🙂
I was scared to start skateboarding and I'm 34. But i got me a board and pads and started in a bowl. Found your video online! Great message and keep shredding! Subscribed!
Bro I’ve been skating for 17 years and can skate bowls and stuff but you are giving solid advice and your sick for any age never mind you’ve only been skating 3 years it’s got me shocked tbh. Stay rad mannnn!!
Im an old school skater from back in 80s 90s and @48 im back on board .. I have 2 set ups one for bowls and one for street.. I leaning more for bowls but have trouble with front side carves.. Thanks for the advise im going to try it . also getting full pad set up with helmet for fathers day so Cant wait . killer 187 pad triple 8 helmet and hired hands .. Thanks for the pad review
Hey, nice vid. Inspiring. I’m 63! …and I’ve been skating since I was 10, surfing since I was 13. But almost all my skating has been carving on long hills (I never go straight). But I want my skating to improve my surfing, so I am going to start getting in the bowls. However, I have a really stupid problem, I skate goofy and surf regular foot, blame that on my friends who made me learn to surf regular because I’m right footed. So I am learning to skate regular footed after 50 years of skating goofy. It’s really hard!!!! I swear it is like starting from scratch. But I’m getting there in a slanted parking lot and getting ready to hit the skate park early in the morning…with lots of padding 😂. Wish me luck!!
I’m 36 and have been skating since the early 90s. Now my daughter is getting into it and I’m discovering a new era of skating and teaching. Thank you for this vid we watched it together. KEEP PUSHING!!!
YOU ROCK!!! I love your tutorials. I’m a 58-year-old skateboarder and want to get back in the game. There’s an old proverb that goes like this-you don’t get old by being stupid!!!!
Hey brother. I like your channel. I just turned 48 and stumbled on the movie 'Lords of Dogtown' and hooked now. I'm looking to get my first board and hopefully hit a local skate park soon. You're giving hope!
Haha love the vibez your throwin out!!! Keep shreddin!!! Love the "im just using it for fun" after saying cooky haha is being cooky!! Im just starting to skate bowls in my mid 30s. Thanks for keeping it 💯
I'm Brazilian, 30 years old, living in Canada and I've never run skateboard before although very common in my country and there are some Olympic athletes.. I just bought skateboard because I fell in love with snowboarding. and I'm trying to keep my balance in Summer lol. skateboard it's more complex.. after 3 months of snowboarding I'm be abble to do some tricks, jumps, ollies, run on blue's, some carvings.. after almost 1 month of skateboarding I got a nice scratch on my elbow 🤣😂 and I'm skating looking like a baby.
Yes my man! I asked and you delivered. Thank you, really useful points about keeping the front wheels down and leaning with the board. I'm going to try this out with maximum speed
Yeah I’m 34 and just “got back” into skating. I had a Krooked board I was using for cruising, carving, bombing hills, and doing stairs. But we just got our first real skate park in Des Moines. I really wish we had this when I was younger.. Would have kept me out of trouble
I'm in San Antonio. 40+ and getting back into skating, because my daughter is. Shoot me a message if you happen to be hitting any parks/bowls in SA and I'd love you join you. Took me months and months to get an ollie when i was teenager. 25 years later, I get it first try--- in the grass :). Something about that wisdom.
Man your videos rule! I’m a 30 year old guy who always wanted to skate and thought I was too old, you have shown me I was wrong mate you rip! Hopefully I’ll get there for now I’m having the radest time just skating around my neighbourhood and getting use to my board! I am super keen to hit the park soon once I get the courage, cheers mate much love from Australia!
35 and back at it. Used to be a Streeter. Stoped to skate 13 years ago. Just started the bowl today, thanks for the video. Can't wait to use your advices!
Hey Roman watch this video back and see if your carving is the same as back in the day . Looks as though you had no trouble here. Look at the lines in and out and see if you copy that today if it's possibly different. You made it look seamless then.
Well done sensei. Loose trucks really help gotta be loose in the juice. Remember to Turn up and Turn down or the board will track straight. Use that upper body (shoulders) turn them so the lower body follows. Bend the knees please. Bowls are way safer. Great video.
Dude, finding this video means so much. I've been picking up skating at 30 after like 15 years of wanting to get back into it, and seeing you rip this hard just makes me want to go out and skate. Great video, man.
Thanks for all your videos and tutorials. I started trying to skate parks last year at 51. hated the feeling of concrete on my bones , built a wooden bowl in my back yard and learned to drop in at 52. old men rule!
I started skating when I was younger but stopped for a decade and you inspired me to get back into it even more, thanks brother! And speed definitely helps I figured that one out last night!
I started skating again just a couple days ago and bought a new board just to carve the bowl. That's all I really want to do. Trying to drop in that first time again was kind of scary, but I did it. Then I started experimenting with carving techniques. There's also been this cool guy there who's been cheering me on, he's really good on the bowl and very supportive. Anyways, one of my challenges now is frontside carving, but it's getting better. Another challenge is safety because I have this mental limit where I won't push myself to do certain things because I feel so vulnerable, so I think that I need to where pads. My last challenge is feeling self-conscious with all these super good skaters all around me. I just want to skate to feel free and happy and carve the bowl like I'm surfing, but I feel this pressure and judgment all around me like "I don't belong there." It's probably all in my head, but I wish some of these skaters would understand that people like me just want to have fun. Music is my real talent and I can't risk getting vital body parts injured. Anyways, great video!
I’m glad to come across your channel, I street skated in the late 80s and also again in the late 90s, now I’m 48 and picking it back up. Your videos are encouraging and inspiring.
Wow man. You make me feel so much better. I’m 36 and I just picked up skating by chance because my daughter wanted a skateboard and I figured it would be a good chance to bond. Man, let me tell you I love it and can’t get enough. It helps relieve my PTSD symptoms like no other. Like a drug! I feel stupid and self conscious a lot about being an old noob. That plus my social anxiety has kept me out of parks until recently. I started going at 7 am when no one is there. Funny how you can do combat tours in the Infantry, but are scared to skate in front of other people and especially other skaters. I want to skate bowls so bad. I had a little taste my first time the other day at the park. I’ve only been skating a few weeks. But I’m taking it slow. Working on my manuals and balance now. Appreciate the advice dude. Subscribed!!
Hey man, congrats buddy... I'm stoked you got out there and think about all those memories.. keep out brother🤘 thank you for the sub. I hope I can make other content you like😁
Prodigal Suns I’m sure you will put out tons of useful info. I’m glad I stumbled on your channel. May I ask what wheels you prefer for bowl? Duro and size as well? Just curious
44 and started a year ago :) best thing i ever done. really want to pump these bowls. i can pump mini ramps but pumping the bowl seems harder, time and patience i guess. Hey this video is awesome though, going to have a good look over your other vids :) fist bump to the OG skaters
Im 28 and I did skateboard back when I was 12. Never had a chance to go to a skatepark growing up and now theres one 2 miles away. I'm excited to give it a second chance
I'm 36, started on an electric longboard 2 years ago. A few months ago I took it to a skate park and it was amazing, although you're a bit limited riding a longboard in bowls. My plan is to start in one like yours since I am a heavy dude. Thanks for the tips! keep going!
This is rad! I just picked skating back up three years ago. I’m 30 now and I just started skating transition a couple months ago. I live in Burlington VT so we have a really nice bowl and mini ramp at Burton that I go to every day. I’ve been amazed at the progress I’ve made in transition skating as opposed to how much I was struggling trying to do street stuff. I just committed and built a 9 inch transition set up with rails and forged hollow 159 indies. It’s the best feeling set up I’ve ever had. Working on frontside slashes now. And hope to get 50-50s and rock to fakies and rock and rolls down soon.
Inspiration right here. I’m a 34 year old thinking about getting back into skating, I quit about 6-7 years ago. I was never “great” at street skating and wanted to try more transition this time around. This is super encouraging.
I am picking up some pads and hitting the local bowl this summer as I agree, street skating is where the hurt comes in. I have got to stop slamming on my hips! Thx for the vid.
Just came across your channel. I’m 46 and getting back into pool skating after 20 some years of not skating. Never really learned how to carve so thanks for the tips! Can’t wait to give them a shot this week. Stoked🤘🏽
I wish I had some land to build my house I would build this in the back of my house this is such a great skateboard park and great setup it is so smooth and so awesome I would Escape all day and all night if I had this skateboard park in the back of my house everyday I'd be getting up early in the morning and just skate my heart out all day long learning new tricks and everything if I could create something like that in my backyard if I have bought some land and built my house this would definitely be in the back of my house so I can skate 24/7 man this is a nice skateboard park I think it's probably one of the nicest ones I've seen so far
Keep up the good work man, you are inspiring the older guys to get back out there and learn a new method of skating. Right now alot of ppl need this type of encouragment. The coronavirus has made alot of ppl really depressed and skating has given them a new lease on life. Im 41...keep thredding!!!
Same feelings about the better awareness! I'm 36 and started skating again in January because my 5 year old son wanted to skate. I can definitely still do all the tricks I could do 15 years ago, some better than then.
Thanks for this video, I'm 40 and just started skating about a month ago. So far I'm having fun learning to carve. Can't wait until I get enough confidence to drop in.
wow, great to find your channel! 52 years old and getting back into riding daily after 20 years of a break.. I aint gonna lie.. my body doesn't want to be as flexible as it was when I was younger.. like the breakdown.. good tutorial.
Awesome video. I skate for over 6 years but never did any transition. Coming back after a 13 year break, all I wanna do is skate bowls and this def helped!
YOU THE MAN !!! Keep the videos coming , i used your videos on how to teach my kids to DROP IN and it worked AWESOME , they are now dropping in with no problems or hesitation , now im gonna follow your carving advice. THANKS AGAIN !!!!
