"Do it however you want." Spoken like somebody who became a "qualified" and/or "certified" welder when somebody pointed him toward a MIG "welder" and a pile of "marginal" parts with the burn-throughs left but most of the bolt holes nicely filled and a solid 50/50 chance after "addressing" the warpage with the old "Bend to fit. Paint to match" treatment the "customer" would never their new fire trucks were made out of the finest "recycled" road signs money and meth could by and told "We want them faster, cheaper and less marginal and if you can turn them out faster than the new guy in Powder Coat can get them bent to fit and painted to match starting...right after coffee break so you've got a good 35 minutes to "study" before the "test" which will be open-book and one question - "They faster, cheaper and less marginal?" - if you pass you'll be "qualified" and if you last the day and stay ahead of Powder Coat, you'll be certified. Guaranteed. Who do you have to outpace in Powder Coat? Your predecessor. He's a vision-impaired autistic Amish amputee with Parkinson's and multiple personalities who got promoted to Powder Coat on a probationary basis pending your "certification" process because we just can't afford to lose that kind of PR and public funding for our "employee diversity program" because...hell, he's all 14 of our "diverse" employees. And since somebody over him talking to herself about putting that "certification" to better use and getting out of Toronto and heading out to work on the pipeline for Trans-Canada where he'd probably be an "inspector".....what time is it now?... we figured we should try to keep him here before the government makes him Prime Minister of Public Safety and he starts writing some "codes" for all the shit we can't do like finish a basement in a brand-new house without Mike Holmes cleaning up after us when the contractor removes garage roof "structure" without a permit and leaves 20 plants and a pallet of asbestos furnace filters in the nursery before splitting with half the $750,000 "quote". Be a damn shame something stupid like national safety codes for private homes in poor neighborhoods here in our democracy kept us from buying, building, leasing, repurposing, overpressurizing and "misplacing" any more pipelines "in the states" where we're so loved and respected and admired for our "environmentalism" and "free health care" and low crime rate up here where there is no racism or hate or poverty or social or cultural division or nutjob psycho "intellectuals" or "academics" with radical thoughts and ideas about "white privilege" and "imperialism" and "social engineering" through "border security" and prohibiting all "people of not Canada" from "immigrating" by having all intermational flights from "not Canada" go through "Canadian customs" in...not Canada. Aka "the states". Why don't we have those riot-inciting hate-speaking."conspiracy theorists" in our own population and country? We use "NAFTA" to "trade" them to "the states" in exchange for "goodwill". "

I've always described welding similar to playing with a garden water hose when one was a kid . works similar( water goes where you point your hose ,metal goes where you point your rod) and kind of simplifies what's happening . hahaha if you don't know what I mean time to go grab your hose and play with it . hahaha sorry can't help it Bob. You are right about heat setting ,every machine runs a little different .Going horizontal to gravity back and forth is what I do as well . I've noticed to, that once you have hit the edge of your bevel, and are starting back across a little ball of slag will roll over the top of your puddle (7018). That was an indication to me that no under cut was being left on the edge . bob you are a tradesmen and good vids

Well said my friend, those numbers don’t mean much they’re just an estimation of what the machine should be at when it’s on that number ,although typically the faceplate says one thing and a volt/amp meter says another, welders just starting get all kind of confused when the WPS reads what amps they should be on and they’re thinking how can I get that amperage right on or lower 🤔

Bob, another great video from the "school of hard knocks (experience)". You can dial your machine all over the place, or you can manipulate your arc length and weld pool. I have found that both can give a good result, however, I am a fan/student of what I call "pool management". settings are settings, but if you know how to manipulate your arc length and what it does to the weld pool, you can produce some very good results, regardless of the machine you are running...…………..it all boils down to how much effort you have to put into it. Great tips and solid counsel.....IMHO

Depends on your weld procedure. When I was welding in the states there were no rules. On a posi weld I would do a 6010 up hand root then a hot 6010 down hand hot pass then fill and cap with 7018. Here in Canada I have to fallow a weld procedure. Roll welds is 6010 root then 7018 hot pass fill and cap. On posi welds its 6010 up hand 7018 hotpass fill cap. Tho sometimes if I want to push my root on a posi I will run a quick hot hotpass downhand then fill and cap with 7018. Xray cant tell weather you ran a 6010 downhand hotpass anyways.
