Lol I tuned in to watch a story about my town in my favorite era so I’m literally surprised by everything and on the edge of my seat. This casting was dead on!!!
For all the changes and dramatizations Winning Time made, the last episode was pretty faithful to the events of the game right down (mostly) to Buss’ speech. Shows you how improbable it all was when even Hollywood recognized that it didn’t need to embellish much.
It was cool that Westhead mentioned him, and he gets his due in winning time. On wikipedia it says that Norm Nixon made it very clear that Jack McKinney is who was the innovator of showtime for them.
I was wondering why the show’s trophy looks different. I thought it was an older design but after seeing this, I’m now thinking they weren’t allowed to use the original look due to legal issues.
Pat Riley without his hair slicked back looks like a different person. lol I didn't even know he was once a Laker. I grew up watching him coach Patrick Ewing and the Knicks.
Man Adrien Brody play Pat Riley perfectly so that John C Reilly for Dr. Jerry buss Jason Segel play Paul westhead perfect to God damn that was good casting.
I think maybe they coudn't use a pefect lookalike because of legal reasons, but on the other hand the NBA logo and Jerry West's finals MVP are the same as the real life so this doesn't make sense. Maybe they coudn't get an exact replica idk I think this will be one of the first questions asked to the director in future interviews so let's wait and see
