You say no cutouts. You say it's got a SmartBMS. These are the reasons that I have avoided owning a Begode wheel in the past, but if those two big issues have been addressed, then it seems like this should be my first Begode wheel. It says a lot about a company when they reach out to a top rider and work with them to address design issues and supercharge their product development by working with someone who really knows what they want in a wheel! Looks pretty sweet, good work Chance!
The smart bms is awesome. As far as no cutouts was in refrence to 40t 35amp discharge cells for racing and pushing. But this wheel has a lot of headroom for trail riding sub 45mph
its also gonna be 100% water proof when it comes into production, right? thats the main reason i didnt go with a begode wheel when i bought my first wheel, cause back then they were infamous for making wheels that couldnt handle water at all. that makes this so much more reliable overall and something that is super important to future euc's i think. it rains alot where i live and i would do everything with this wheel, even though its built for trails ;D its weirdly enough gonna be one of the best commute wheels too just cause of the waterproofing hehe!
If they did smart bms and waterproofing on this wheel with safe batteries, this would be my first begode wheel. I get 5 months of snow and rain so need waterproofing. I ride a og sherman. I'm looking for suspension wheels.
Chance it sound like you are bringing EUCs to a level for Pro riders. The things your asking of this wheel is way beyond anything most riders will every need for their level of riding skill. That is ok as their are people driving sport cars that they have no idea how to drive. Your effort will trickle down to the the beginner rider by pushing the manufacturers to make better products. Great job Chance. 👍🏿 Racing will advance our EUCs to the next level.
That is literally 100% the goal here !!! To help push and make all manufacturers make stronger better built products, there will always be room to improve but this is leaps and bounds more growth than we’ve ever scene from Begode
Truly seems like the goto hard trail off roader! I would love to see your take if you ever get to ride the Patton or the new V14 on some tracks as well. I will probably never to hardcore single track riding myself but some decent off-roading I might get into one day, who knows. Patton seems to have some hardcore durability features and the V14 has the progressive suspension coil and what not!
6:46 "A 3 inch wide rim is critical to EUC and tire design." Absolutely! Deforming the tire due to a smaller sized rim is going to make a big difference in the profile and performance of the tire. Great point and good call on that design decision.
I like how you structure your review with goals and points and then go into detail about each - it's easy to follow. The riding itself is next level and enjoyable.
Thanks man, I think it’s important for everyone to know my end game goals with this wheel, so they can see if that’s something that checks the boxes of things they maybe plan on doing with it. Really glad you liked the review style
That wheel looks so sweet.. and seems priced very reasonable for what you’re getting. I’m still new to riding (very new. Like 2weeks) on an Mten4 😂 so maybe I’ll look to get one in a year or two. For now, I want a V12, a used RS19 or maybe MSP. Cheers
Few questions: Can you change pedal height? I think the pedals are almost scraping the ground when the spring is compressed and you are turning at the same time? Is there pedal dip in sharp turns? Can you change the sideways cut out angle so you can ride high berms? Is there any kind of water protection so we can ride it in the rain? What do you think of the default pads? Is the rear disco light not very prone to breaking in a crash? What is the max amps you can charge it with? Hope you have some nice answers 🙂
No you can’t change pedal height, I’m preloading the spring before almost every jump on purpose, that maybe more of what your seeing, and what cause the crash at the intro. I got begode to ruminated pedal dipping and make a flat pedal firmware to make it easier to jump and trail ride. 65° max angle cutout. I ride berms constantly with this wheel just like my master at 65° and don’t have issues. The stock pads are best on market with a true heel toe lock but they still won’t be as good as your diy pads. No the rear light is extremely strong I have no fears of it breaking plus we redesigned it to have the metal end caps be larger than the polycarbonate so the edges will hit first. And 10amp max charging
Bawahahaha okay go ride your KingSong there big boii. You stop by to comment just to talk trash? Way to go !!! Show me another cnc billet aluminum wheel on the market. Way higher quality than all other cast aluminum wheels
I'm putting my pre-order in today. You got me 100% sold on getting this wheel. I love the specs, I love the way it looks, and I cannot wait to upgrade from my 16x I've been riding for a year.
@Christoph-vg1mg i had no problem. It does ride different, but its way easier to go from 16x to extreme rather than having no experience and learning to ride a 16x.
Thank you for this super cool footage! I bet it can be quite the transition from just making vidrod to ppl expecting videos! I know sometimes, riders just want to ride.
do you know how the 50e batteries perform on this wheel? I’m a more casual rider who does like to perform and go on trails occasionally, weight a bit more than 180lbs with gear. I was thinking the extra range would be more helpful than the extra discharge but I also like the sound of extra safety margins. If the bms communicates with the motherboard then maybe there wouldn’t be too much fear of pushing it too far?
These are 50e in this video and I weight 170lbs geared up. The 50e will be fine for 90% of people the 40t is made for racing. The smart bms has nothing to do with being able to push past cutout limit thought. Begode has never limited that like KingSong or inmotion. Smart bms just allows you to monitor packs and balancing and voltage ect…
What a great review! I gave you a hard time on the unpacking and this absolutely shut me up! Explaining the design objectives to start was perfect and it makes total sense. Nice riding and great information. Thank you.
As a cyclist the importance of marching tires to rims is always critical for performance and safety. Its ine thing to stretch a tire to a larger width rim- there are performance gains to be had, though their are some cons too! But using wife tires on smaller rims is a big no no. The first big con is aero profiles are bad. But this isn't so relatable with EUC's as aero drag is near impossible to measure in relation to power output of a vehicle so small. The second which is terribly important is a big loss of stability while turning or more specific, leaning while turning. The tire being now bulbous in shape as the tire is deformed inwardly causes rollover and folding issues. I suspect it is one of the major causes of speed wobble and becomes more prevalent thebless tire pressure you have while turning or leaning. It would also become harder to recover with a smaller width rim and larger width tire combination as deflection where the rim and tire meet would increase as recovery shifts weight in the opposite direction. And third, Deflection during slippage would cause bounce skipping because of the tire folding and then releasing that energy causing a secondary slippage cause the tire slide out from underneath of you. As long as your intentions aren't on the extreme side of things you wouldn't notice so much. But man with bikes at least for sure you notice when you start pushing on limits. The more G the more stress. And the more weight there is the bigger rate that deflection vomes into play. So I agree 💯 that manufacturers matching rime width to tire width is key!
Loose the speakers and add another charging port. So far the Begode Extreme looks like a complete wheel, unlike the Master. I love my S22, but it lacks torque to climb those Belgium hills. That's why I bought the Patton. I need to sell the X-men HT and my Sherman first. I will probably buy the Begode Extreme in 2024.
Great review mate. Thank you for having an influence on the development of the type of wheel I will be using. I love riding trails with my V12HT and was waiting for the perfect trail wheel to be created, as far as I can see, this is it. 👏👏😍
Awesome work, Chance! I was going to mention the handle and knees/shins but actually, when i was riding, I didn’t really notice it. I think it’s something people will adapt to or put a pad over it. It reminds me of beginners ankles. After a while it goes away. Good job once again. Awesome wheel and awesome review!
Are you using coil or air shocks? I might get this as my first suspension wheel. I weigh 150lb. I dont do trails much, mostly streets (bumpy streets). Which suspension type do you think is better? Coil or air?
How fast do you ride on average on these trails? I ask because I ride in Phoenix desert with lots of rock gardens, baby heads, kitty litter and I think I'm doing medium speed at 8-15 mph. I thought you said you do 22-32mph which doesn't give a lot of room for error on turns. I hit the 20s on straight aways, but with the junk it makes it hard. It also seems you have a lot of smooth riding (non-tech trails) so I was really curious. Thanks.
Don't worry about the 1 charging port, I am putting 10A through my master, never been an issue on rides and still going strong. At home charging at 3A. The blinkers on the trails are awesome ;-) Did begode work with Tomasello for the linkage in the end? I heard a rumour about that one.
@@wattssingletrack8874 If all else fails, at least he has his version ready for shipping then ;-) And thanks again for putting QiQi through her passes. Seems you didn't really experience issue during your 500 miles on her. Begode is definitely levelling up.
Nice video bro. Would you use the 50e or 50s battery for normal offroading and little bit commute? But is it possible to jump high with the extreme? Because i hear it has problems with the pedal tilt in high jumps! 130mm real useable travel with the linkage and coil or air shock?
whats your experiance in reliability for this wheel? I have heard about begodes exploding and burning. What has begode done to improve quality control?
I have been waiting for this review, I am glad to know that the only cons are relatively unimportant, I always ride with knee pads. having handle in CNC for me is a pro because it is much more durable and I can rely on it for emergency braking. About the speakers I don't really care as long as they work, I put on music so cars, pedestrians and cyclists can hear me. As for having 1 charging port, too bad there aren't two but if you buy 1 10amp charger you have no problem, and anyway, EUCs for long trips are others, like Sherman S, Ex30, Ex20S, Master Pro/X ect.. I love this EXTREME, thank you Chance for creating this euc with Begode and thank you Begode for making it a reality. I can't wait to try it out....
Alot of good stuff here, i am interested. Those negatives are no big deal. Speakers dont belong on the wheel, jbl clip if you desire, even that you cant hear at speed anyhow. Maybe make a small redesign on the handle. The positives are great. 3 inch rim.... finally, strong motor small rim super nimble and torquey. And a solid construction, the construction is biggest deal i for one am tired of these companies using whatever they can find to make these like the s22 cabinetry fixtures on the linkage, they can go to hell.
Thank you for this much anticipated review. Enjoyed your review. Glad Begode worked with you, hopefully we get a wheel that doesn't end up having 5 versions. Really would like to make a confident purchase.
Should be able to ride through in active live hard rain but it won’t quite be an A2 waterproofing from my knowledge yet but my model is prototype preproduction so no real waterproofing on it currently but final production will yes
Hmmm okay that’s cool. This wheel has smart bms and best construction of any wheel currently out. And water proofing, this isn’t your old gotway. You’ll enjoy the patton too it just bottoms out easy on trails on the larger obstacles and has a bit less torque but still a fun wheel
@@wattssingletrack8874 thanks, that's reassuring. I thought that having traveled 2500 km would have freed you from that (but it was on a rockwheel gt16). it's quite frustrating, in 400km on the master I still couldn't exceed 50mkh. I discovered an incredible spot in the French Alps (LES GETS) for downhill mountain biking that I was able to try with the s18. you would love that.
They should have gone beyond 130 mm travel. Why only settle a match for S22 on suspension travel?! Their demo of 1 meter drop and bottom out. In perspective, front fork of a mountain bike can go up to 200 mm travel. A pinnacle of the tech.
Lol you do realize that was a prototype linkage, that’s not used anymore, and yes that’s the end goal is 200mm, but on a 16” wheel if I had 200mm of travel my pedals would be in the ground… a pinnacle of truth 😉 but you knew that…. This wheel doesn’t compare much to the s22 beyond they share the same suspension travel. The video your referring to is a old abandon linkage that’s no longer used. That was the point of getting me a wheel to test and change and fix things.
@@wattssingletrack8874 Only concern of the cons not the pros that everyone can see and your contribution on making the linkage beefer are noted. I want them to tackle the problem with bottoming out at 130 mm travel. I would have started at 150 mm suspension to see if anyone still bottom out in the wild before trying to solve the next problem.
130mm is about the same as a Civic or Mazda 3 from a few years ago. That could give you 80mm of comfort and an additional 50mm to prevent bottoming. As long as we can put a real shock on, this should be pretty epic.
seems like the rider avoided face-planting by kicking off the pedals really hard, jumping forward. i've never seen that before. but i think that would be rare situation. but worth investigating, anything is better than face-planting.
Without stock side pads it’s 83lbs. And no it’s not to heavy. A lot of what makes a wheel feel heavy is yes the weight but more so motor torque and tire size drastically affect low speed riding and how a wheel responds. I only weight 150lbs with no gear so we are the same weight. The c40 motor and 12” rim make it feel way lighter than it really is
hey man, great video love the ride! BTW what firmnes do you have on the kai pads? is it the firm or softer version? hope to see more videos of this thing, stay safe dude!
Yes it does, mine is a prototype and has been blacked out, I had my entire wheel blacked out before they sent it to me. The final production will have same display as ex30
I don't believe it is all CNC billed from a chunk of material 6065. It would cost 10x more. For example rim - you need to cast rim and then CNC it later.
Yes the rim is still a cast rim, I was referring to all the components the make up the frame and construction of the euc. I can confirm and promise you it’s all cnc’d from billet block. This was my biggest requirement to meet the strength that we need.
@@wattssingletrack8874 controler box is casted too ... no ofense. There is no need to sugarcoat those things. Casting standard industrial proces. If part is weak it is not because of process but material sucks.
Why can cut outs not be programmed to never happen? I expect that reaching a threshold could be programmed to slow the wheel to a safe level at a safe rate rather than just cutting out. What am I missing here.🤔
Haven’t cutout the extreme but in general cut outs can’t never be eliminated due to fact that’s how the wheel stays upright it has to move wheel faster to keeper rider up. Nature of the beast
Zero money…. I just got free production wheel. I never wanted money I just want better wheels for community and was elated to be asked by Begode Ceo to help design a wheel
Lots of things so here we go, coil shock option 750 or 900lbs spring it comes with both if you pick coil shock vs air shock. All 6065 billet aluminum block cnc’d components so not cast aluminum on the wheel, water proofing, c40 motor, 130nm suspension, linkage design soft vs firm hole settings is two completely different feels like bipolar opposites ones a cloud one is super firm for jumps, smart bms, front and rear grab handles, rgb taillight and speaker, same pedal height, you can go on and on oh and mainly the 12” rim or 16” wheel makes it hyper nimble. Absolutely love it over my master. And same top speeds and range so yea master doesn’t really compare especially in linkage design and durability !!
Are you guys getting the 50e or 40t version. My 40t production version should be ready by end of month also so I’m pumped to have 35amp discharge !! The 50e cells sag bad once below 40% just like the master
@@wattssingletrack8874 I assume they are sending the 40t version. We'll likely carry the 40t only as it makes sense to use that battery type for the Extreme
Awesome stuff Chance. Could care less about the speakers (use BT inears) but good point on the front handle as never thought about it swacking knees. Single charging port is fine by me as 40miles is lots on gnarlies. Very excited about his wheel & stoked to know it can do blacks. Keep up the vids on the extreme err I mean QiQi 😅
Haha thanks yea they arnt really major complaints but they were the best I could come up with, this wheel exceeded my expectations to be completely honest
Thanks !! Crazy to think I used to always barrow your spare onewheel and this is where I ended up years later, pretty cool to say I got to have a wheel purpose built for trails so now more homies can join the trail scene 🎬 because the wheel can finally take it and the abuse the trails dish out.
Specs identical huh? lol 😂 cp mini only same stat is 134v and the 2400wh 50e. The extreme will come with 40t high discharge option cp mini don’t, all cnc construction from 6065 billet block, 130mm of travel vs 90mm c38 motor vs c40 motor. Total height and width are different from each other too. Very different wheels with very different goals in mind
@@wattssingletrack8874 would you say that the cp mini would perform better on the street and the extreme better on trails? I wonder how they would compare with acceleration and top speed.
What do you mean autonomy of the wheel? It’s 134v 2400wh C40 130mm suspension 3” wide rim with 50e or 40t battery options. Coil or air shock option at time of purchase too
Haha thanks dude. I know my review arnt all fancey and stuff but it is what it is, it’s just how I like to do reviews. I know my style isn’t for everyone but it’s just blunt and to the point. What I wished purger RU-vidrs (cough cough chooocie) would so instead of say ever wheels the best because that doesn’t help anyone actually make informed decisions
Hey bud, hard core love trails here. Michigan trails are rather narrow and technical. switchbacks, roots, rocks etc. My T4's only "con" in this is its width. I get pedal clips in areas my s18 used to be able to slide through. I dont suppose there is any improvement on that with the Extreme ? I think you should come down to MI and ride our trails btw. Different experience....
Weird I pedal clipped way more on my s18 vs my t4 due to the super low pedals on s18. Imo the extreme is very similar to a master. A ton of trails here are singletrack too, it’s really all I ride either mtb singletrack or Dirtbike OHV black diamond trails. Iv ridden in utah Oregon Arkansa, I’d the day comes I can afford to travel wherever I’ll for sure hit you up and smash some Michigan trails 🙌✊🏻. Same goes for you if you ever in California near Sacramento hit me up we got a different trail experience than what your used to as well. This is only one vid showing a few trails there’s a lot more crazier ones here I got trails with 400’+ drop offs a cliff to the river down below 😄
@@wattssingletrack8874 thanks I’m about 205 with gear , nothing the extreme can’t handle though, great work on the wheel it’s definitely the most exciting releases I’ve seen so far but hands down the most performance/quality of any device for the size and price 🙏 if I can sell my T4 I’ll be upgrading to this hands down
I just got a T4, well I am waiting. I would have loved to get the Extreme but the Winter comes quickly in the northeast US where I live so I cannot wait until September. Also, i kind of wanted a smaller wheel as my daily is a 20", 3600Wh. Not great for trails, or portability. Plus, you have large ones, but it is just a single pair, lol, first generation is still a concern and intimidating. Production vs. prototype.
This is going to be my next wheel 100%. Currently ride an S22 and whilst I love the suspension, I want more torque. My Nik+ is noticeably more torquey but I don't ride that much because I off-road and jump a lot and suspension is just so important. I would have a master right now, but the build of it scared me. The amount of times I have thrown my S22 into a tree, horse gate or patch of rocks puts me off the Master. I want to be able to send a steep but short jump without worrying about beeps. Also, whilst I like 18" wheels for climbing over obstacles and escaping rutts more easily, I will take the sacrifice for a more nimble experience. One question I do have though. How good is the rim? I like to ride on lower PSI around 30 and... well, I got 3 dents in my Nik+ rim the first time I took it out off-road.
Happy to see the major step up in begode. I’ve always refused to buy their products because they were unsafe, had a garbage suspension, and terrible build quality. This wheel doesn’t seem to have those issues plus it is made to be tough for those of us that trail ride! I currently have the 16x and I’ve had that since it released! It’s been a great whee but obviously it has no suspension because nobody had one at the time and it’s made from cheap plastic. For some reason kingsong made a plastic wheel this year and after all the trouble I’ve had I will not be buying any wheels in the future that aren’t high quality metal! I don’t care for the light show or the garbage trolly handle they used this year either. If I buy a wheel this year it will be this one! Although I wouldn’t mind seeing a bigger tire size. The 16” wheel is good but I’m also kinda tall. Hopefully they keep up the good work!
That was main push for this wheel was durability and construction quality along with other factors but “out of the box” durability and quality were very important to me
Thanks Matt, I bought the Begode extreme about three weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks for all your input, everything you went through to help build this wheel it’s a real Trail monster. I just wanted to give credit where credit was due.
Same as before 65° cutout angle but in reality in order to tilt it that far the entire pedal folds up before it cuts out you can lean it that sideways !! It’s awesome
Have you tried the 40T batteries on this wheel yet? I live in the Seattle area and want to get the 40t version, so I won't be as nervous of cutout when riding. 50E Master made me nervous once I got to about 50-60% battery.
@@wattssingletrack8874 awesome thank you. Yeah it seems like my dream wheel as well. I have an s18 rn that I love but wish it was just a little more capable. I'm definitely eyeing this wheel for my upgrade.
@@wattssingletrack8874 Hows that thing do on the road? Like specifically at taking hard turns on pavement? I'm curious because you said the tire is super wide and if it is flat then I imagine it would feel like an Mten4 or the A2.
Chance how easy is it to hit the knees on that CNC handle? I wear knee pads a lot when it's cold because of my motorcycle pants but I don't really like wearing knee pads So when it's hot I'm not usually wearing any most of my writing is casual around the city well I don't know about casual but spirited
More so just a problem when first learning to ride it. I now ride it to grocery story and stuff with no knee pads and it’s fine I don’t smash my knees anymore
Is the fun factor restricted to trails only? If not, is a street review upcoming? You mentioned the front handle as a con for the knees. Will Begode resolve the issue, before production? If not, is there a workable solution without knee pads? Did you switch the stock pads? If so, what brand are they? Thanks
Yes it’s just as much fun on the street but no I will not be making a review based around pavement, just not my scene tbh. The front handle isn’t a problem and doesn’t need redesign I actually love the handle. You learn to adapt to ride it without hitting it just at first you’ll notice it. I ran stock pads for 300 miles then I removed them and installed KaiPads on it
What is your weight, I am interested in it because I weigh 121 lbs and my friend even less, it would be nice to know, I am definitely ordering this wheel.
No need, the whole purpose of me getting it early was to find and redesign the flaws. The board has been changed 3x times already and we finally have a solid controller. That was the primary reason for me to do the testing I did NOT want issues like I have on my v1 batch 1 master. I pushed hard for this to not happen with the extreme !!
@wattssingletrack8874 that was kingsongs idea too, and that s22 is a hot piece of garbage lol. I hope you are right this could replace my shitty s22, I can't stand it, no longer trail ride it due to it falls in pieces regularly
@@dirt.surferbig fail on s22 and v12 was the fact they did not test the wheels properly before production. Sort of a 1 time mistake that i doubt anyone will repeat as it costed them a lot
@@olcamo1 you live under a rock? The s22 was stated to come out in December of 2021, kingsong held off and sent prototypes around the world for riders to ride and they would refine production model. The fire happened and this seemed to be the only focus. We were lead to believe the wheel was tested and refined. But was released with first batch of 60 to eevees last year in end of june. With the failed rail system that after 30 km your actual suspension was 2 inches of rubber. I am on my third motor and it has popping bearings, one screw on motor plate unmilled, I suspect a large batch is. It has spent more time in parts and repair than I have riden it. I could go on about this pile of shit but I don't have the energy anymore. Just wait for the s19 it's just a bad version of the s22, kingsong is failing.
