One of my aunt’s once told me, “No one will marry you if your mom gets a divorce!”. Well I am so much happier since my parents divorced. My mental health has gotten better because I don’t see them quarrel. I am in touch with my dad, I live with my mom and step-dad. Everyone respects each other and no one intervenes in each other’s lives. And I get loved by everyone! My parents have both grown so much and are so happy. I wished for a “normal” family for so long because society conditions you to think so. We need more stories like Tribhanga. We need to hear more stories about dysfunctional families because that is reality! I swear normalcy is a myth.

I remember the day when my mother got divorced. I was so happy for her, bcoz as a child seeing her suffer and staying in an abusive relation just for the kids. And finally when she took stand for herself, got out of bad marriage. And after a decade she got married again to the best person, who really taught me what a father is like... I'm happy for my version of normal life..❤❤

Oh very true, you said my heart. Best dialogue of kajol- "men are like tissues, who keeps them forever after using them?." This movie is great for women empowerment and to show men their places.

Bechdel test is horrible though. It is totally flawed and inaccurate. According to it, harry potter is sexist. Terminator and predator fails the bechdel test even though they have some of the best strong female characters in movie history. There are a lot of movies with good gender equality that fail the bechdel test. Also, not every movie needs to have female representation. Just like how the mood of a movie changes based on the actors in it, casting a man or a woman can drastically alter the feel of a movie. There are some characters that are suited for a male actor and some for female actors. Imagine a world war documentary with an all female cast. It wouldn't feel right, imagine if batman or terminator was a woman, it would feel wrong, similarly, there are some roles like kill bill, black widow, katniss everdeen and Harley Quinn that have to be played by a woman. True gender equality will achieved when people simply don't care about gender and only about their capability. This includes not going out of our way to insert female representation into everything and instead select a person for something based on their capability instead of gender. Gender equality is simply not caring about gender.
@Vi sil No sir , I'm not talking about the movie. I haven't watched the movie yet. I was talking about this video ... BTW , Thank you for your opinion ... 🙏 ... Don't be sad for me , I'm quite happy with my life ... 😊
Good to see Indian writers coming up to recognise various societal intersectionalities of feminism as well as the family dynamics in an Indian context.
Actually we need more of such movies promoting feminism. Best dialogue of kajol- "men are like tissues, who keeps them forever after using them?." This movie is great for women empowerment and to show men their places.

Today I saw your tribanga. First of all the title is completely apt for this movie and i really liked how three generations especially women with their life journey is shown. I congratulate Renuka ji for this. I really like your smile Renuka ji.
The most surprising part was to see Renuka Shahane as the director and writer. Such a nice story written by her. I wish to see more inspiring work from her. Great work done by the ladies. You all rock. 🙂
The point that none of us have a supposedly normal family and there exits a certain level of dysfunctionality in all the family makes it a breath of fresh air !
Kusha Kapila is such a good host. She's calm, composed, giving each guest their space to have their say, while asking such relevant questions. Must do more hosting gigs. Really enjoyed watching this super amicable, multi-window conversation.
Tribhanga is so refreshing. What a gripping way the story has been shown on screen. I was emotionally invested from the start. Loved it ~ a must watch!
Though it’s all about the women’s empowerment in this movie .. men’s pls don’t evade yourself from watching this movie it’s an awesome movie with has so much of emotion with good direction and acting ..
I watched Tribhanga and I loved the concept and how it put across to the society. It also brings out a suttle emotion of each generation. Topic handled very maturedly. I actually loved all the characters in the movie.
It's not a movie. It's a family destroyer movie. I mean how can you justify multiple partner, ignoring your family and your husband who supports you in your career and passion. Is it really justified for an ideal society?? If these is what is called as being liberal, then I am sorry to say I will always follow patriarchy. These bloody pseudo feminist can only bark for sexual liberation and multiple partners only.
Superb writing... after a long I watched something and felt like "WOW"!!! Congratulations to Renuka mam.. I am always a fan of her since Surabhi..!!! each and every part of the script is fabulous. and watching Kajol is always a delight.
I loved this movie. I love the ‘dysfunction is normal and averaged is underrated’... I think Kajol said it, it’s so true. Amazing movie Tribhanga, if anyone hasn’t seen it, please see it and Behensplainning team for doing this round table.
Renuka is absolutely awesome. Loads of love and respect to her. Huge middle finger to all those who have disliked this interesting conversation by 4 wonderful sensible women.
Wow! I watched their interview after watching tribhanga.....what a movie❤️. Every moment of this movie made me think of the dysfunctional normal. Thank you Renuka ma’am for making this. You were, are and always be my favourite. Since the time of surbhi 🙏🏻
I still remember, people complaining about Renuka ma'am's character in What The Folks and saying that "she's too overbearing", "50 rs kaato overacting ka", "no mother is THIS sweet" and all that. But I feel she's like that in reality too ♥️
Tribhanga... Focuses on the love -hate relationship between mother and daughter. Well directed movie... Though the story could have also focused more on the positive influence of the mothers on their daughters... Since we have living examples of both Renuka ma'am and Kajol ma'am. They both have mentioned regarding them coming from broken homes... but they both seem to have emerged strong and positive in their lives...
I watched the movie last night. It was wonderful. I started watching because of Kajol. I am a big fan of her. Later I found out that it was written and directed by Renuka Sahane. I love her acting. I still remember her serial " Sailab". Well written, well made movie. Everyone did a great job. Hats off !
This was relatable at so many levels.. a gracious thank you to renuka ma'am for such a real and wonderful amalgamation of the real life stories of many people which mostly remain closeted !
U need to watch it asap. I also have mommy problem i was dying watching this movie coz it really hit home. We are our mothers our worst nightmares. Bt that is not a bad thing. I really enjoyed the movie

*Renuka* Mam ... I was at the *Asha foundation* function (for specially abled kids). The speech u gave there & all the gifts u brought for them. U r really really a great saintly woman 🙏🙏🙏
I watched the movie... I cried a lot... And couldn't stop crying for another 30 minutes tooo.... I have a dysfunctional family... That is a normal family for my mother, though I want them to separate... Me and my sister try to ignore as much as we can, thinking that its a petsons right to live the way they want..... But relatives asks about these negatives,,,, on our face... That is really uncomfortable and we have to deal with this..... I feel so disgraced....
I can feel u💔 my parents got separate just a month ago and i srsly dont knw how i am feeling about dis tho i wanted them to live separately for der happiness bt its really really tough... People ask me r u good and i dont knw wht to tell them... I want to cry my heart out and tell them i want perfect happy family like others have bt i can't and dis really hurts....
My parents separated in 2013. Initially, I felt they were more at peace but since a couple of years now, their toxic selves have taken over and I honestly don't know how to take the emotional burden on myself. But, I would say, the pseudostability is better than complete chaos. PS: I cried too
Oh wow wow wow. So you couple justify having multiple partners and having random sex, drinking endlessly and ignoring family for your own selfish passion. What an ideology both of you are promoting. Really. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
okay. good video, although definitely could have been a little longer! i think it was a great initiation of a topic that often isn’t thought about in our community and culture. i agree that there is no one definition of a “normal” family and that the concept in itself isn’t very strong. the foundation of any and all family depends on so many factors that it’s impossible to have a homogenous definition for it. there’s caste, religion, geography, individuality and a hundred other things. of course, a family is after all made up of individual people and as long as we have different values and metrics to define our relationships , there will be no one answer. as mithila says in the video that dysfunctionality is the new normal. mainly because, as with any other social interaction, there are certain things & boundaries to keep in mind. for a family to function and be healthy, communication is important. vulnerability is important. and all that uncomfortableness will lead to a comfortable and safe relation in the end. it’s a constant process of change and evolution because we, as individuals, will continuously grow. so whether it’s a family of two, four or ten, it’s hard to have all those people on the same page, to understand and acknowledge different perspectives and to respect and love each other within all that conflict and difference. it is important to remember to give each other space and look at the other people outside of their duty as who they are to you. to invest and put effort into all relationships, and to adjust and sacrifice, all while still allowing yourself and others to be themselves and be real. (for everyone who read this, thank you for your patience. i felt the need to just add this to the video, hope it makes at least one of you think beyond what you usually do.)
Amazing topic! Now I am going to push Tribhanga up in my watchlist!! And i have to admit, I saw the trailer and decided to watch it only becasue I saw Mithila on the poster 😁 you are an inspiration girl! Keep achieving greater heights!!
I had my personal reasons to not watch tribhanga but this conversation is one of the best conversations i have seen in the longest time. Short enough to keep the interest going, not very short that the message is not sent across well. Beautiful.
@@user-yk5xu8gr1e Feminism doesn't say leave your husband if he cheats on you. There are no rules for feminism; irrespective of whether she chooses to stay or leave is up to her. And society not judging her for her choices is what is feminism. Instead of being annoyed with feminism as something that has disrupted your idea of a typical Indian sati Savitri, try to judge less and be a bit more compassionate? Try it, it's not hard.
I can completely relate with RenukaShahane , some of the parents also take away their children from me and sister as like we were some alien and we were in junior classes but I am glad that my mother made right choice which makes her happier which makes me happier .I am so glad @Netflix put these kinds of interview where we can relate and also understand that imperfect life is the best life. ❤️
It's a shame that Indian women of India still fight daily ongoing prejudices & maltreatment while there's many more important issues plaguing the country, and the rest of the world is moving on ahead of such.
