My hat goes off to all of the ones that came, seen and graduated. I wish our academy would have been 17 weeks because 32 weeks was a very long time but I enjoyed it and enjoy what I do and so will you.
Ahhh. The academy. Fun times. One thing I wish I would have done prior to my academy was prepare more physically. Less so on the running and more so on active cardio. I found a huge difference In cardio as far as running the miles compared to cardio when it came to defensive tactics. Much more grueling. Looking back at my academy class now I somewhat miss it. But while I was in it I hated it. It’s definitely an experience.
@Gohan Super I'm even more confused now. You think he's Disposable and Hate-follow ex-cops, or are ya just trying to be funny... Or trolling? Because you aren't being very clear. I'm just curious because you went out of your way to try and say "something".
@Gohan Super Well you'll be waiting forever. You'll never get what you say you want, so I recommend making the best of what there is, or stay in / go back to school, and make change happen from within by getting the law changed. Because the Anarchy Fairy is Dead and Buried
@Gohan Super *W T f ?* So... beyond not understanding _any part_ of that *word salad* you just offered the world (and honestly, I don't think you do either), lemme get this straight: You started this off by telling someone, a complete stranger, who's actually willing to train damn hard to put his life on the line *_for you,_* to face Gangs, and Meth or PCP addled thugs, criminals, drug traffickers, killers, suicidal freaks, *_(and School Shooters)_* ...the kind of assholes he'll face _every night_ of his career, ...someone who could someday maybe rescue *_you_* or a family member from a burning car wreck, and is willing to potentially even take a bullet for you so you can sleep soundly at night... you're telling him that he is: *_...disposable_* because _you're mad about guns_ and want the world to be something it will *never* be? And all while you're not even being willing to do anything about it *yourself?* Piss off! Also: Most gun deaths are caused by criminals shooting other criminals. Police involved shootings are a very tiny, tiny portion. And the *vast majority of Officer involved shootings are **_justified!_* And School shootings are not only *rare,* but mostly committed by people who are either mentally ill, or not even allowed to have Guns in the first place (either due to their State law, or previous convictions). Not only did you come in starting with an insult, but you just ignored what I said about doing the work yourself to improve things then said something totally incompressible... Quit winging at the world and blaming the wrong people for what you see as what's wrong with the world. And do something about it! Go into politics, or become a Cop or Fireman, a Nurse, Doctor, or EMT if you *actually* want to help. Or just Piss off and let the sane people do things.
A lot of judge mental people in the comments, there is an oral and written exam as well as the physical training. I would like to see some of you do it.
Thats not the point. Oral and written exams do not show the intent or heart of these people. They give them the answers already. mental Background checks must be law
So they got as much combat training as a boot airman. But good for them. With that training. They should not be issued guns. Just baton. I'm a former Marine primary mos 0351/ secondary 0331. 2yrs in a tier 2 unit. W over 200 combat missons. Leave the running and gunning to pros. And give pigs. Tasers and batons. That pig was crying from pepper spray. Not even O.C. spray. Pussy!
As someone that was in the military it's shocking to see you referring to police officers who risk their lives and server their communities as "pigs". Your comment is hateful, stupid & beyond disrespectful. Same to you as the other ignorant assholes, I hope you or your family never call the police for help since you are a "Pro", you can handle any issues and do the "running and gunning". SO ARE POLICE OFFICERS, THAT IS WHY THEY GO THROUGH EXTENSIVE TRAINING! They are taught to use firearms, control, how to fire & safety. That recruit was pushing through & got through it, I didn't see any of the crying jerk off. Have more respect asshole.
In Florida, 770 hours are required to sit for the Sate Officer Exam. Subtract the physical training aspect and you have 502 hours, mostly sitting in classroom. Think its all physical?? think again. Kudos to those who serve, who have served and those who want to!!
It kind of depends what Academy you're going through in Florida do a little bit of research of the city of Miami Police Academy not the one at Miami Dade community college the one at the city of Miami Police Academy is actually Tougher Than This One for example the Miami-Dade Police Academy is actually longer than the 770 hours required by FDLE and that 770 hours has changed
The physical part is easy the other part like written exams and tests you take in academy is what is hard.in the 17 weeks you can only fail 2 tests, if you fail again you’re out.
Yeah, I also want to be a k9 officer or someone who helps kids in a situation...But pepper spray and a taser 0-0 no thanks... I freak out when there is shampoo in my eye, like you 😂
I was pepper sprayed on accident by a *stupid friend*. The effects aren't that bad(at least for me). There is a burning sensation and it feels like you can't breath. You will do great, follow through with your goals.
Here in Canada for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) it's 26 weeks and the even after that you spend a year with a more experienced officer to learn all the real-life ins and outs and what's what.
I’m 14 and my dream is to be a police officer. I don’t know if I can do it but if I do end up getting this job then I will have to work my butt off to get it. I’m glad I saw this
I get it, I'm 15 and already trying to get myself physically fit. If you're really committed to your ambition and you work hard, you're bound to succeed. You can do this!
Is it just like army basic ?? Like just people yelling at you while you learn stuff ? .. and why is it so hard to get in, I’m a veteran and I have no criminal record , am I just a shitty at interviews?
this is sad , i was in the Marines, college and played 20 years of football 2 years pro before i was hired as a police officer, it wasn't a power trip like i seen from some officers , i coached high school and semi pro football so i had a lot of kids and young men called me coach and they knew i cared about them so they cared about me , when they like you the town likes you,,yes i had a young man that was very good kid and player he joined a gang and was killed , that hurt,
When I went through the academy in Illinois, my marine buddy was getting yelled out by a dude. He looked at me and was like is this guy serious. Lol. He dealt with real yelling in the Corp he said. Yea totally stupid. Good for them.
There is two sides to everything. But I noticed the weaker side is becoming stronger. Most people will not put themselves to this for the sake of comfortability. If they only knew, then they would shut up. Keyboard Warriors always say what they want to say but never can follow up on what they think they can do. Challenge me and I'll accepted as long as there's proof of your failures. Basically put-up-or-shut- up 💯
Military folks be like boot camp all over again. However this time we’ll just be laughing because of the memories. If I do this I’m gonna get yelled at for smiling. Lmfao already.
To show how cops are not needed. Labels are a division tactic to divide and conquer. Like replacing serve n protect with law enforcement meaning putting ignorant laws above the constitution by enforcing laws to create criminals while serving n protecting the ones who write the laws, who break the laws they are above. See how that works. Here is a test you can't pass Law Enforcement....How many laws exist? Answer....unlimited meaning ignorance is no excuse in breaking so many laws even the law makers, judges, lawyers, cops, break. Fact, without cops there would be no criminals. Fact, without cops there would be freedom. Fact, not one cop upholds his/her oath "constitution". Fact, under the blue line represents a police state. Fact, the word police should be replaced by the word militarized. When a militarized person pulls a citizen over and claims it's just doing it's job by enforcing a ignorant law or "safety" look up our debt then how hyperinflation has wiped out empires time n time again and before you laugh realize your pension is next to be wiped out by those you protect. When you use a label make sure you understand wtf you are talking about and not just stating your opinion.
@@Unclenate1000 you can title yourself whatever you like for division then claim unaccountability but, the facts are facts. I speak for myself not a group. We have problems and it starts with leadership. Until people wise up and pay attention, cops stop enforcing ignorant laws, those above the laws are held accountable, nothing will change and the worst statement is I'm just doing my job is a lame way of saying I don't care about right or wrong just about me and my entitlement. Things can be better and will be by balance with or without peoples help. The systems rigged, laws are ignorant, rules don't apply to everyone just to those who are helpless or ignorant. I do right because of a moral compass and make mistakes because perfect doesn't exist. I don't need laws or rules to tell me right from wrong and it doesn't stop the corruption. I'm a man, father, son, brother, nephew, human being by labels.
@@joshjohnson2600 I wish cops would actually do their job and stop worrying about people. Start focusing on real problems like the federal reserve, law makers, politicians, or keep helping the problem while claiming justice. That is the true signs of ignorance yet ignorance is no excuse of the law. Hey why not throw all ignorant people in jail...well get moving bud.
There are plenty of jobs police perform that can be performed by people of any shape and size. Your height won't prevent you from being a police officer... though you most likely won't be put on the streets to handle patrol. Still, there are many jobs ranging from office work, to management, and general enforcement available for police. Don't let your size get in the way of whatever it is you really want to pursue!
Josh Christiane I want to do k9 or SWAT,most teams work together depending on department..so I’m not planning on a desk job but thanks for the helpful advice.
I'm a well trained swat man. Last summer, I swatted at least a million flies and mosquitos all by myself at the cottage. I have friends who are cops. Most said they liked it at first, then it got old real fast.
Many/Most have upper age limit of 35 yo... up to 42yo, with 7 yrs military experience. However, NYS ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION Officers have NO upper age limit & probably there are other municipalities/ positions that are similar.
Asalamulakum. I past all the pre higher steps for a Deputy Sheriff position but I'm thinking of turning the position down I'm in my late 40's don't know about passing the physical part of the academy if I fail im screwed.
because they don't necessarily have to stay in shape because the already made it through the academy and also some have office jobs they sit down all day
According to the Army I was cut out to be an M.P. or a medic. However, that having been said, I could never be in law enforcement today because I would refuse to enforce laws that were unconstitutional or follow orders that would violate the rights of my fellow citizens.
17 weeks only.... Wow. They should really invest more time in their recruits.... In Germany depends on the ranks you would like to enter police you need to do an apprenticeship of 2,5 year or you study there 3,5 years for your bachelor's degree. That looks more like military basic training then learning how to police.....
Spoiler alert: Screaming in people's faces will not help with their anger issues, desires, fears, education, abilities, morals, curiosities, integrity, etc., nor will it establish true authority, or command authentic respect.
If this is representative of what they learn, and they are police officers after 17 weeks it is no wonder that the USA has severe problems with their police.
I'd say its getting late... but if you think you can do everything on the physical and emotional levels that younger recruits can do then go at it. You may not be able to hold the job as long as others but at least you could say "I became a cop and nothing stopped me"
As a 47-year-old who has been doing the job in Arizona for 22 years, I would say 45 is too late. I started when I was 25, and back then it was a 20 year retirement. Right now it’s 25 years. So think about it, you will be 70 when you retire, 70! Also, the benefits of back in the day are gone, no more health benefits after retirement, most pensions are going away, and they are leaning towards 401(k)s. Also, Arizona Public Safety Retirement system is Used to figure your pension off of an average of your highest three consecutive years of work. Now it is the average of the highest five consecutive years of work. So that means busting your hump for five years in order to get a slightly larger retirement benefit. .....Just my thoughts, but after 22 years, I couldn’t see doing it much longer.... if I have it in me,, I’m probably going to do another three and then Call it done.
If Nathan Fillion can be a rookie cop at his age, I guess you could too. Just be leery of that 20 pound belt with everything on it that will leave bruises on your hips until you get used to it.
I'm 46 and past all pre hiring test for deputy sheriff. This sheriff's office require you to take fitness test over before academy starts I should pass that again but in the academy the fitness part is what I'm worried about 5 miles a day running and I'm in shape not over weight or flabby by no means if I flunk out I'm screwed especially at my age.
Frank Mccroskey and what are you supposed to be? Some kind of saint or something? You must be able to handle anything all by yourself. Your a big boy 👦.
