A solid BTS that’s always interesting to see to compare smaller new teams to what we do with larger TV OB trucks. You guys are doing a solid job for the equipment and setup!

pretty cool! Also, love seeing the use of the older panasonics. The SDI out is still very good for modern broadcast since you arent recording direct to camera. And they are cheap on ebay too. got one for 600 or so off ebay, and it works very good

Great stuff! I've been doing high school football and baseball broadcast and production for about 6 years and the level that you guys are doing this is amazing. I would love to know how you guys are incorporating scoreboard into LiveScore. I normally dedicate a camera to keep the clock and I have someone else keep score on an iPad. It would be awesome if I could link directly with the field scoreboard like you're doing.
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 2 месяца назад
Thank you! The way we obtain scoreboard data is difficult and probably our most asked question. The basics are, we use a Sportzcast ScoreLink to connect to the venue scoreboard. That plugs into our network and we’re able to pull the raw XML Data into live score from there.

@@jrmvideo thanks for getting back to me. What kind of sideline mic do you use and what's the range? I normally have a sideline reporter but the wireless audio range has been spotty at best.

I have a few questions, also love the video, not even midway through the video but got questions😂: Have you guys had to use your own internet at a high school stadium? We’re going to start doing local sports broadcasts, and I know some of the fields in our league don’t have internet up in their press box and I would like to know what’s the best solution to that.
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 2 месяца назад
Yes, 95% of the time the venue has internet available for us. We are in communication with the schools IT teams several weeks before a broadcast date to ensure speeds, reliability and open ports. The rare case internet is not available, we will use a LiveU pack to transmit signal. This uses cellular bonding to send out the broadcast to any location you desire. They are very pricy so we rent per occasion basis.
@criticom
@criticom 3 месяца назад
Very well done. You guys running dual or triple roles in the truck with TD/GFX for one and Audio/Replay/probably something else. You're both obviously skilled, and this is a huge cost savings per show, but what do you do if you have an engineering issue to solve and one of you has to step away to fix?
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 3 месяца назад
Thank you! That is a very good question and it’s a recent issue we’ve encountered with the growing size of each production. Specifically for the football broadcasts, Cory our drone pilot has been with JRM since day one and understands the workflow of all the roles and technology involved with our productions. If we have an issue mid-show, he will step away from his role as drone pilot to go solve said issue. It’s worked out because we can sacrifice a live drone shot as he goes and tends to a problem. So he’s pretty much the engineer as well.

Curious to know how you are getting your signal to the TV station. I did not see any antennas or satellite on or around your trailer. Thanks for the great examples you are setting. Keep up the good work and much success.
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 2 месяца назад
The station provided us with 2 video encoders which would send via RTMP streaming directly to the station. This meant we had to have good reliable internet at every location and we had to have specific ports open on firewalls. There was a lot of IT coordination every week. In the few cases internet was not available, they would provide us with a LiveU pack to transmit over cellular bonding.

How do you get your drone(aerial view) into your production gear?
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 3 месяца назад
We use DJI drone systems. Specifically, the DJI Smart Controller which has an HDMI out with the live video feed. We’ll just take that HDMI and convert it to SDI for our switcher.

What interesting is, is that you just have two atem camera converter in your pressbox. That means 2 feeds to and from your controle room. How to transmit all the other cameras? You have minimum of 3 cameras in that both. without explaining your routing, there are even more questions.
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 3 месяца назад
We have a total of 4 atem camera converters in the press box. The two you didn't see were at main camera and our PTZ. We also have a 4 channel SDI over LC Fiber converter mounted in our press box breakout which handles the wireless receivers and booth cameras. There's a total of 8 camera feeds coming from the press box.

I will mention that your TV timeout methodology feels quite convoluted and inconsistent compared to our method with the station. For established sports like ice hockey for example we usually have a TV timeout light that the referees look to to visually know to stop or restart play plus an established remaining time each period that we will go to TV timeout on the next whistle if no goal or penalty occurs at that point.
@jrmvideo
@jrmvideo 3 месяца назад
Funny you mention the indicator lights because we just designed a system for our stream decks to control red and green lights for TV timeouts. I also feel it depends on the sport. For hockey and basketball, it's easy to have a pre-planned tv timeout that the officials will follow. But for football, sometimes we take a break and sometimes we don't. The method we use is exactly what happens for NFL games. I work on the sidelines during NFL games and the networks have a red hat "Orange hat" that stands on the 30 yard line and will run out when there's a break. I also worry about daylight football games because the LED indicator lights won't be visible up in the press box. But we are experimenting.
