One minor mechanical issue at 3:58. After executing a proper face-off, you look quickly take a look behind you for traffic and then you skate out backwards so as to never be facing away from the puck and the play.

Not necessarily. In a 4-man system, the referee generally drops the puck at centre, and unlike most other instances, that referee doesn't need to be watching the play for a few seconds. Therefore, you CAN (doesn't mean you should) skate forward, then pivot to backward to get out of the centre circle more quickly.

+GoldenAce57 Not in minor hockey - not all leagues use linesmen. There are 2,3, and 4 referee systems

+Dr Fear & Co. ... I am a minor hockey referee and the 2 man system is for novice (which both guys call penalties, break up fights and call goals. The 3 man which has 1 ref and 2 LINESMEN. And the the 4

+Dr Fear & Co. I probably should've been more specific. I meant, as you said, in the 3 and 4 man systems. Like the guy below me, I'm a minor hockey referee too. I know in the 2 man system, we do everything.

There is actually a lot of opportunity for female referees!!! Megan McCormick of Rochester, NY...look her up. You can become an IIHF ref...ref the Olympics. that would be cool....

I'm from Rochester and I've never heard of her, I even tried looking her up and found nothing. Also there are a bunch of female refs that I've had work my games (I'm a scorekeeper), especially during youth girls tournaments
