"Behind the Mask" (1932) is a pre-Code crime drama film directed by John Francis Dillon. The film revolves around the character of Harvey Benson, a seemingly ordinary man who leads a double life as a notorious criminal known as "The Black Mask."
Harvey, played by actor Jack Holt, works as a respected attorney by day, while secretly operating as a mastermind behind a string of daring heists by night. His criminal activities remain undetected until he crosses paths with Sylvia, played by Constance Cummings, a young woman who becomes enamored with him.
As Harvey and Sylvia's relationship deepens, she becomes increasingly suspicious of his mysterious behavior and sets out to uncover the truth behind his dual identity. Meanwhile, Harvey finds himself torn between his love for Sylvia and his commitment to his criminal alter ego.
As the authorities close in on "The Black Mask," Harvey must confront his own demons and make a fateful decision that will determine the course of his life. The film builds to a thrilling climax as Harvey's true identity is finally revealed, leading to a dramatic showdown with the forces of law and order.
