Behind the Planet of the Apes: "Creating the Statue of Liberty Ending" 

For those saying that Taylor was dumb because he didn't look up at the moon and realise that he was on Earth the whole time, the astronaut Dodge says this in the beginning of the movie: "It doesn't add up. There's a mantle of dust around this planet and yet it's as humid as a jungle. Thunder and lightning and yet no rain. Cloud cover every night and that strange luminosity, and yet no moon."

This was a masterful ending to one of the best movies ever made.

One of the best Scenes in Cinema History! i would love to visit that place!

You can thank Rod Serling for such a classic, in part.

Boy the movie ending was so smooth 😍

One of my top-50 movies.

I read that the author of the novel was kicking himself for not thinking of Serling's ending.

In the book, this is the Eiffel Tower, not the Statue of Liberty !

Such a great Twilight Zone-ish movie... thank you Serling for such a brilliant adaptation of the book.

Cool. I always wondered how they did this scene.

Brilliant.

It could've been New Moon in which case there would be no moon visible. However within a week or so the phases of the moon would become visible and I assume the time scale of the movie is a couple of weeks. Also it could've been cloudy the whole time

The view from the top is ok. But then the next clip is out of alignment as if the actor went backwards
