Loving all the guesses on who the Politician actor is and also all of the hidden secrets, details etc I'm receiving in the comments that you have all found. It's interesting to read them and find out so much! It seems like a never ending list of secrets the developers put into this game. There's probably lots more to find too... Amazing!
6:41 this is most probably a side mission asset, when you go to Lucas, his side mission is that you must warn his friend, before the police come. When the time runs out, you can see this police car.
Yep,when the side mission is triggered and the police arrive the car is not there anymore. after you warn Luca's friend you can see the car spawn with the police near the theater where Yellow Pete's place is if you can get there fast enough and it will drive to the guy's place
It is even possible to enter the police car and be teleported around 15-20 seconds before the time runs out during the side mission. You can go to the street of the stadium and pass the stadium a little. Your right side will be a long piece of wooden fence with concrete support between wooden parts. The concrete right behind an electricity pole is actually no solid matter, so you can walk through it and you can then run to the police car and enter it. Without using any cheats, it's hard to reach the car before time runs out, since it teleports away around 15-20 seconds before the timer runs out. Good luck! Edit By the way, if you drive that police car, you'll get teleported wrongly and could die because the car could fall infinetely if it gets below ground level. So just sit inside it and wait. If you sit on the drivers side, after being teleported you need to give gas, the steering will be done by the AI, you can't control the steering. When you sit as a passenger it drives automatically. There are videos on youtube, just search for teleporting lassiter.
@@Protolindt Yeah. I heard the Czech acting is good, but I don't speak the language and I like keeping the experience "authentic" (in a way that mobs living in America would speak English). The motion capture also look really awkward at times but it is pretty detailed for its time.
5:08 - the bottle on the table says "Brno" as the name of the alcohol, but Brno is actually a city in Czech Republic - where the game was developed at :)
@@flyer3849 wasnt made by the same developers. most of them left after the aquisition of the studio by US publisher. so the series had lost its soul and gameplay.
That police patrol car is for the Lucas Bertone's side mission where you have to get to a guy before the cops arrest him. If you take this car and do the mission, you can wait until the time runs out and then it teleports you on a specific location with policemen inside the car. You then kinda loose control of the car until they arrive to their destination. However, at any point you exit the car after they've arrived then you cannot enter it anymore. Quite interesting stuff. :D
Mission #8 Hotel Carleone when you're looking for Michelle's room, the other rooms have interisting sounds that can be heard just from outside the doors, can you find out and make us video about what happen behind the doors? :)
One interesting sidenote also is, that after you've finished the race and the results show up, all the names except yours are the names of musicians from thrash and death metal bands. Like David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Mille Petrozza (Kreator), Piotr (Peter) Wiwczarek (Vader) and so on. I listen to metal myself, and when i first read those names i had to laugh, thinking "wow, there must be at least one metalhead among the developers/programmers".
Ayyyeee fellow metalhead! 🤘 Nice catch. Is this also in the Definitive Edition? Europeans love their metal, so I'm not surprised it's in there. Way more popular there, and in Central/South America, than it is here in the US.
I'll be honest here. It was so fascinating to see how developers created these cutscenes. The whole video is very interesting! Thanks for all the efforts, that were put to make this video!
Yes, the objects in scene and how the cutscenes are composed really give you insight into how the developers approached it - and what's surprising is that they weren't ultra conservative in culling textures and models away when they aren't being used. That's what's really cool about mafia is that things are as low poly and low resolution as possible to allow more things to be in scene at a time. Very cool to think back and remember how effective the game was and realize that there was no realtime lighting.
Yea, the developers really knew how to make the whole in-game aspects right. Their work was so good, to the point where the player had a great experience with the game, while the computer could easily handle the engine in the process. They were very clever, and for someone like me, discovering the whole game mechanics really makes me engaged. There's one really interesting thing is the game, which had me shocked for good. There are at least two different skins/models of the main characters in the game. The low quality models for chars like Tommy, Paulie and Sam appear during the gameplay when the player has control, while the high quality models appear during the cutscenes, when the player is observing. I'm pretty sure they wanted to make the game look more realistic, but also to make it easier to run on weaker computers.
This is truly one of those channels you dont know you need til you stumble across it. Great premise. Fascinating to see all the little tricks and curios involved in the development. Subbed.
7:00 I believe that patrol car teleports in the map when you start the Lucas Bertone quest for that mission where you warn a guy that the cops are on him, the cops arrive at his house with that car.
6:35 - you can actually climb the opposite shack and see Sam without any hacks. Same with 6:42 - you can skip through the fence in a specific spot and even take a seat in the Feds' Lassiter. If you do, shortly thereafter you'll get teleported nearby the Lucas' friend's house.
After seeing the new "definitive edition", I'm even more convinced that this is one of the best games of all time. It just shits all over the new "definitive edition" in all aspects except graphics. It's sad to see another classic masterpiece ruined by a mediocre remaster that will drop everything that made the original game so wonderful, and replace it with shallow, superficial and forced aspects.
Highway patrol car is there for Lucas Bertone side mission. At the mission, you have to warn Lucas’ friends that the cops are after him. After picking up the mission, cops will appear with these vehicle and enter the house after a given time. The vehicle itself even accessible and drivable w/o any cheats, but you can’t store it into Salieris. Also, if you pick up the side mission, at some point four officers teleporting into the car, and the car teleports to a point in the city. From that point on, you only can accelerate and brake, but the car will follow a given path to the guy’s house. After that, the car is there but inaccessible. You can access that area from the western side of the U-shaped road leads to the warehouse. Find the barrier which separates the area and the road, and try to run inside one of the separating column of the barrier, just after the road starts to turn. You can run to the car, get in it, and exit the area through the barrier separating the area and the railway there. Try that out it’s fun :)
even when i see it from that angle with all the glitches and i know its coming it still gets me in the feels big time i dont think i have ever been more invested in a story of a video game than in this one. and the music.. pure class
Slipping Out awesome video :) My loved Mafia 1 (actually I am from Czech so it´s like national crown :D ) but in scene where Tommy unpacks his "gift" from Saliery, there is Bottle of Whiskey and the name Brno on it is city in Moravia (second largest in Czech) and mostly city where game was developed back in 2000´s also easter egg ;) without Slipping Out :D
@@SlippySlides there is more, AirPort is based of real building, but I don´t know where actually, Last mission takes place in Austria´s Gallery (whole level is based of it). Another think in small "bank" you rob (second last mission before */?´s *+?- (don´t want to spoil others :D ) there is person with name Viktor Kožený (no idea how this is in English tho :D, but there is small dialog where he gets bit angery about termination of his account :D) also this is hint to real person, and some other thinks I can´t remember now :D
Hmm, so this video came out when Mafia turned 18, right? I didn't notice it back then. Well, happy late 20th anniversary. Interestingly, while hacking the camera is certainly cool and can give insight on how the game works under the hood, there are a few things you showed that can be seen even without it, sometimes requiring glitches.
Besides being a great game in so many ways, too many to list, I so appreciated this being the first game I ever saw with realistic reloads, where you lose the rest of the bullets in your clip if you choose to reload after a few shots. Finally, some risk/reward to reload, rather than mindlessly spamming the reload key with no negative consequences. Secondly, I LOVED that gunfights were super awkward at seemingly short range. That is realistic. Game magazines ripped it for that, but fact is, even highly trained cops really struggle to hit people with pistols. Then you pick up a carbine, and you're like, finally! I can hit something! Yes, that is realistic, too. The longer the barrel, the easier it is to hit something. These developers really went the extra mile, but sadly most people had no clue as they've never used guns except in shoddy video games where revolvers are sniper rifles, and carbines are weak and inaccurate.
I know the game is 18 years old, but if anyone is watching this that hasn't played the original, perhaps because you're going to be playing the remake soon, watch with caution. There is a VERY BIG story spoiler toward the end of this video. I know most people watching this have surely played the original, but if you haven't and you are not aware of major plot developments, you should probably skip the last few minutes of this video until beating the game.
It's just feels so strange others playing and loving game made in my country. You must be really disappointed if you haven't heard Czech voice acting instead of English. At 7:09, if you would sit in passengers seat somewhere and waited for some time, you would teleport inside the car with other policemen in there on road. But it completely messes up game script-working and whenever you manage to sit in scripted car moving as a passenger, the driver gets real mad and like non-sense driving. And if you reload mission after killing people meant to sit in their car and chase ya, like on that parking lot mission, you can actually get to sit in their car and drive their boosted cars, that's why they always been faster than you. This game works on really simple scripts I could be able to make, but its a really interesting game, tho. I would rather play another game, but I loved this one. Try it in our voice acting, please.
This video is awesome. Amazing work. It's almost as if they made the first and the last scene at one time. I made a video of my opinion of the remake preview and also a video about a mod that extends the freeride in mafia to include areas like the airport and some other places without loading screens.
During the railway crossing mission it is possible to stop Sergio Morello's car as you follow it. You can ram it and cause it to get stuck into a building, then get him and his driver out of the car. If I remember correctly the driver puts up a fight but Morello does nothing. Just stands with a Colt 1911 in his hand and does not move at all. You'll notice that the driver is a different person than the one in the railway cut scene. When I attacked Morello, it seemed like he had infinite health. But after I shot a lot of ammo into him and ran him over with his own Lassiter about 20 times, he finally died. The game did not react at his death. He continued to appear as the mission objective on the minimap even after I killed him. Wonder what would have happened if I had gone to the harbor ahead of him. Probably would have lost the mission due to being too faraway from him. Wonder if the harbor is open prior to him getting there... If it is, and you kill him just before reaching the gate and then go ahead of him to the gate, perhaps you can cause him to reappear alive again with the normal cut scene...
7:04 The highway patrol car is part of mission car mission for Lucas Bertone. Vere he tells you that cops are coming for his friend so you have to go there to warn him. If you wait long enough that car will show ut at his house and four men will exit the vihicle. Car spawns somevere on the near by road after the timer is overe.
7:00 the reason for that patrol car to be there is because if you do Lucas bertone's mission that car is going to be a part of that mission. You have to play that Lucas bertone's mission to get what I'm saying.
@3:50 Its not just strange characters in the bar but a Ghost too lol The guys kind of looks like Aaron Eckhart, he played Harvey "Two Face" Dent in The Dark Knight movie's or maybe Christopher Lambert from Highlander. I can't decide. I love how he's supposed to be in prison but he's still wearing his suit 🤣
It hardly gets mentioned the faces and animations in Mafia were basically the best you could get in games at 2002 considering they were not pre-rendered cutscenes. Of course there were huge improvements every year at 2000-2005 era.
Yeah I realize that. I was referring more to the fact it isn't connected to other parts of the map like some title screens in games are. Maybe I didn't get the point across.
7:05 I guess, on this Highway the police will come for Lucas friend in the side mission. Cause if u wait around the friend house after you warn him, the police will come on the same car.
The model of an Alfa Romeo is just an effect of an early stages of game production. At begin all cars were the original models, but they had to change car names to avoid getting sued for using licensed brand names (I.e. Bolt = Ford). There's a mod that allows you to actually make races on Lost Heaven Race Track, so in the menu there was an extra option for that, which moved the camera at this shelf. Same with bringing back the original car names.
Thanks man..👌 Really enjoyed the episode.. Also in the end cutscene where Joe and Vito after killing tommy sit back in the car..... The underground model looks like they were done giving their take and having a good chat break..😆😂
Now that MDE is out I really feel like we need to take another look at the original mafia and consider what it provided to us that wasn't necessarily graphical aspects that made it remarkable. It was about freedom (choices about where you go and how to interact with the world), being able to use your imagination to project humanity into the game, and settings/game elements that draw connections to things we understand from reality (and our awareness of history). That being said, the standards of graphics even with the original, were totally adequate in supporting the game experience, and shows now more than ever that an immersive game isn't simply a matter of graphical quality.
