its so hard to get info on this topic, esp when new into it - thanks For a home setup on a 5k budget for homemade virtual prod - i was thinking to use it for stopmotion first with unreal 5/blender/AA VFX post then see where it all takes me. i know you guys talk about genlock and sdi + vive tracking - but iv seen some make unreal 5 live tracking work with the Hdmi>sdi adapter from blackmagic with the 4k and 6k models + vive trackers - idk is thats good enough for VFX tho myself. 1 Sould one go Greenscreen or tv (oled 77 inch) / lazer 4k short throw projectors the newer TV ones that can project in daylight?? 2 also i was thinking a BMPCC camera? Ursa mini pro gen 1 Pocket 4/6k or older fs700 4k upgraded or newest sony FX30 3 is there any recomendations for a camera for homestudio- new or used (older models!)? + gear setup thanks

Hello I am a person who is preparing to run a virtual production using vicon like you. I have a few questions. 6:30 In this scene, you attach a tracker to the screen. I wonder if this is the process of calibrating the camera? If there is any documentation on this please let me know. Thanks for the great behind the scenes video.

The dialogue is just so low and getting drowned out by the music bed. Your volume is also SUPER low ... it's sitting at -11dB with an average loudness (Integrated LUFS) of -22 LUFS when the recommended levels for RU-vid is -1dB with a LUFS of -14 and in many parts, the dialogue has trouble punching through the musicbed. There is no compression on the dialogue so sometimes the dialogue varies greatly in volume. There is no sidechain ducking to lower the music bed when someone is talking ... It's too bad too since the topic and visuals are great ... just the audio is poorly mixed and that really lowers your credibility as a production house. That being said, your more affordable videowall setup looks amazing. I've been looking at doing this super indie / dyi with a Vive MARS tracker system and a couple of Cinebeam short throw projectors but I'm sttill looking at 10,000$ US for a really basic setup (6000$ for the MARS tracker, 3000$ for a LG Cinebeam and then a good projection screen) and really I'd like to add another 3 projectors (of lesser quality) for the top and side screen for lighting. Then add a proper workstation that can run this live with 4 screens (back, tiop, and 2 sides) ... so another 3000$ and we're looking at around 20,000$ for a poor mans volume ... way out of my hobbyist budget. :)

maybe just get the MARS setup with a green screen room, having subpar projectors and a small room limits the amount of light you can use in your actual scene (as it will affect the black levels on your projected image), resulting in poor results. with green screens you can still have more flexibility to color match the foreground plates to the bg ones.

I think the real issue that should be addressed in these case study videos is just how difficult it is to create photorealistic environments in a game engine for VP. The narrative from this space is the perpetuation that VP will allow for quality VFX on a budget. So far, the only convincing VP shots I've seen are the Mandelorian and 1899 and they definitely were NOT on a budget. And even then, the types of environment used were key to their success (i.e. mostly rocky/barren worlds and open oceans/barren worlds). I accept this is primarily an educational collaboration/budget experimentation and that you are not attempting to (or should be expected to) reproduce the output and setup these studios have, but if the background content is poor, is there really much point? I would love to see you guys tackle the issue of quality VP environment content. Best of luck int he future!
