Dude, you have some GOD DAMN TALENT. Cant wait to see more from you. Holy god. I cant believe you got this render quality out of Element. I use that as well. Holy Moly.
The Battle of the Dreadnaughts was a great video. You and Eck really did a great job on it. The quality of 3D modeling and animation shows how passionate your were towards this project. Any future ones I expect will be just as if not greater. Again a congratulations is in order.
The only real reason why I clicked this video (since I don't plan on doing this sort of animation myself any time soon) was to write a comment and ask if that was his TIE Vector on the poster. Immediately recognized it; it's either the Vector or that "jet-engine TIE" that could have been in 7.
All that inside Element really is convenient, I'd expect. Here I was thinking I was watching something done in Blender or Maya first, and edited thereafter with a more complex and time-consuming programme, but no. Colour me surprised. Well done, E.C.
Very informative BTS vid! Never would have thought of stuff like squishing the ship so it looks right in frame. The roto'd live action scenes came out really well!
You won't be able to finish these projects, because if Disney and Lucasarts don't want to go bankrupt, they will hire you and make you fix all their mistakes 24/7.
I'm going to say first off it was an excellent outcome for a small budget production. The two dreadnoughts made it feel like a toe to toe slugfest. The inner strategist in me notes that this fight was scaled back from a real encounter. The mind boggling numbers for their combined fighter complements would have come into full play. The question come that if you had an unlimited budget would you have included a suggestion of the ballet that would have been the fighter engagement around them?
Finally joined the Patreon, keep up your amazing work! The creative + informational + technical value of your videos on the topic of space series are unparalleled on youtube. On a note, I am currently trying to learn more about how to properly model objects in CAD for Art + Design school and these types of videos are great motivation + inspiration. Good luck with all your future projects EC Henry, I am most appreciative for your past content over last couple years and look forward to seeing your future work. -J
3:10 - 3:32 Changing the scale for the shot was the right move but I still feel like there is this "OMG! There is SO MUCH MORE SHIP WAY BACK THERE!!!!" that could somehow be conveyed without being comical. Just something to consider for the future.
Great work guys! Question though: Why did you decide that the ships wouldn't have any shields? Was it because you wanted the shots to just hit the hulls, or was it hard to make the shield effect, or something else?
Shields would of taken even longer to get the video out, but in my head-canon, I can see the idea that shields take time to startup on ships of such a massive size and considering they use so much energy, they wouldn't be on within a peacetime. ( Before the Eclipse jumps into battle )
im currently in college learning animation, for the most part 3D stuff using Maya. i have experience with After Effects, but nowhere to the scale that u r using it for. mostly i end up using it for last minute effects/post production stuff, so seeing that u could pull off something like this in it is amazing
To be honest, I'm mostly amazed in the programs you chosen to create the videos considering how great they look! Coming from a Nuke / Maya background, it is crazy to see real-time rendering within After Effects.
After Effects is really powerful, even for VFX like this. Obviously it won't be as good as Maya/Nuke/ or Houdini for Large ass films, but it's still good. Plugins like these (Element 3d) or others (trapcode) make it even better.
This was straight up cool. Star Wars fans are making such cool stuff on RU-vid. Some would say better than modern Lucasfilm. I obvipusly want both, but my favorite would be the Starfighters.
Woah I cam back from Eckharts' channel, I thought this was a Star Wars scene I missed XD Edit: Disney or Lucasfilm should really Hire you, this is real great.
Awesome work dude! I would definitely love to see content like this featured on your channel as well. I down with both the dogfight and the outrider short films concept. I'm sure Legends fan would love it!
Awesome! I always love your's and Ekkart's Ladder. Though think you'll ever do a somewhat long form (like this) scene featuring some of the models you've featuring the models and adaptations you've made and showcased here?
I love what you two have accomplished there. It looks amazing and it's interesting to think about that twenty or thirty years ago, any movie clip like that would have needed dozens of people and tons of money to make. Question: Are you going to make a video about or otherwise talk about the "Siege MC80" or however you'd call it in the end of the Battle? It's a very interesting concept that's only seen for a few seconds.
Great job! Hey EC, do you think you and Eck will be making any more of these kinds of videos? Idea for you: Basically, the idea is that during the stage after the republic became the empire, the CIS fleet makes a sort of last stand. 2 Malevolence type Subjugator Class CIS battleships and a Devastation type Subjugator Class CIS battleship vs a republic/transitioning to empire fleet. The imperial fleet should be made up of like gray painted Venators, a couple of Imperial I's, a Mandator I or II, some light cruisers, and Republic fighters mixed in with TIE fighters. I would be willing to wait a year to see that.
One thing I was wondering about the battle of the dreadnaughts were the shields. But either way I still enjoyed the video. You're well talented and hope you keep producing your amazing work.
Fantastic work, and good integration of existing footage! Finally saw the Eclipse superlaser. Sad for NR ) : Real sense of scale on all vessels (incidentally, what was the scale for the two MC80as on here?)
Thank you for your amazing work! Finally we can see the SPACE battle of the ships, not the WW1 dogfight of space fighters... And Empire wins, I mean there should've been at least one instance, where Empire wins, because if not, why it is the Empire, rihgt?
Excellent breakdown EC! I've been following you for a couple of months now and you've quickly become one of my favorite SW RU-vidrs. You've got so much fun, creative and analytical content on your channel. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
You have amazing talent in animation Henry. Please make more of this in the future if you can! Edit: And I don't mind which out of the 2 animations you decide to do.
EC, that is some truly ingenious work you did there. I did see this at EchkhartsLadder and was blown away at just how "big screen" this project looked. I like to do sci-fi animations myself, but sadly cannot afford After Effects. I use Hit Film for post-FX work, Blender for modeling and texturing, and iClone for model animation. A lot of your thought and work process is very similar to mine. We seem to work from what I like to call "neo-old-school".... compositing when things might be just a bit much for one computer to handle. Your videos however have a great filmic fidelity that I have yet to learn to achieve. Keep up the great work, and May the Force Be With You. (This video and the battle video itself convinced me to subscribe to both you and EckhartsLadder.)
I really like this video and your behind the scenes. I'm a strong supporter of an Open-Source Star Wars community, where instead of an official Disney Star Wars determining the primary universe, The People The Fans can be contributors and participants in the cooperative assembly of what could become the Star Wars we always wished the originals were.
