Check out our Behind the Scenes documentary of the recording and creation of the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack. Bill Elm and Woody Jackson, along with a team of accomplished session players put together a captivating reimagination of the old American West, and we caught it all on video with interviews and insight from the players as they recorded stem after emotive stem for the interactive in game soundtrack.

rockstar, there was this one time when i went into mexico the first time you set foot on it, it was night, and when looking at the beautiful mexican landscape with all the stars and the moon in just the right position while listening to far way by Jose was one of the greatest times in my entire life.... thank you rockstar... and thumb up if you want rockstar to look at this thank you note

It was daytime in Mexico for me, but just as memorable as what you say. I can also say the same for the part where the music plays after Dutch dies and you are about to see your family for the first time.

Nunya Biz The only great song in RDRD2 was, “Cruel Cruel World” by Willie Nelson. Red Dead Redemption had Far Away, Dead Mans Gun, Compass, etc. The music score as you ride your horse in the first was way more impactful and fit in in every setting. In RDRD2 they played loud trumpets during a Native American mission. Didn’t fit the setting.

The Danish Orchestra is pretty damn good. They do a lot of the music from the Good, the bad and the ugly. They basically perform a lot of Ennio Morricones music.

As much as I love the second game... I think the original RD Redemption had the better soundtrack, RDR just had so much character and was absolutely overflowing with atmosphere. Redemption 2 does sell the 1899 setting very well, but it feels less like a western and more like a game that happens to be set in the 1890s. If they do end up remaking the first game's story in the second game as DLC, as many have been predicting they will, I really hope they bring back the old soundtrack with it, because so much of that game was in it's music.

The Arctic Gamer I think they certainly did explore more of a southern and Appalachian sound as opposed to a southwestern or “spaghetti western” type of vibe with morn horns and 60s guitar, but they do bring those vibes back in reprisals of tracks from the first game soundtrack and with a few ne tracks, at least on the score on Spotify

@@IridessenceX I mean, I do get what they were going for, and of course I love the second game's music too... I just like the first game a little more, it had so much atmosphere and character, while RDR2 feels a little... I don't know, less memorable I guess. Part of it is probably nostalgia, but I also think that RDR was kinda lightning in a bottle, and part of me is glad they didn't even really try to recreate the first game's sound at all, except for those times where it was important to the narrative, such as bringing back John's theme for American Venom, or reusing some ambient tracks in New Austin.

Did anyone notice that RDR2 is really lacking on this aspect of the first game? Most of the time I get so bored riding my horse in the second game while in the first I remember hearing these little sounds showed in the video while exploring the world..

Archie mac I agree. The atmospheric music that plays while you ride on horseback in RDR1 was beautiful. I especially loved the eerie music that would play when entering Blackwater. It gave off this vibe that the Wild West was dying out and technology, the government, and civilization was taking over.
