Just like most Skunk Works® projects, the team supporting the film and the development of the Darkstar aircraft continued their work in secrecy. Our Skunks worked with the film production team to understand their needs, then quietly worked on the design and build until the concept was revealed to the world in the film: lmt.co/3zmmILb

They fooled them double because darkstar is actually real. There’s a photo of an aircraft parked in a hush hangar at Groom Lake that has 90 of the features of Darkstsr. We also know the Iranians accused the US of spying because they’ve tracked multiple crafts flying over Natanz nuclear site exceeding Mach 11. Finally, the articles at Warzone and Aviation hunting that SR-72 development was much further along than acknowledged, and that was back in 2018. Highly likely those Mach 11+ flights and crazy groom lake photos are Darkstar.

@Appletank8
@Appletank8 2 года назад
Its less "can't" and more "there hasn't been a need" The OG SR-71 needed to go high and fast to get Recon pictures and evade missiles. Now we have space satellites that can do the same thing more cheaply and safely. If you want the Darkstar/SR-72, you need a purpose beyond cool speed records.
@Shaun_Jones
@Shaun_Jones 3 месяца назад
I think it’s less likely that we made something faster, than it is that we made something that can do the same speed as the Blackbird, with near complete stealth. A Mach 3+ capable RAM coating would definitely be enough incentive to keep the aircraft under wraps for all this time.

We even customized it in such a way it had guns, laser cannon and missiles, could VTOL and could reach low earth orbit space 😅 it was way more awesome-looking than than any of the flying crafts in Star Wars or Star Trek if that was even possible 😅 Now this jet is a household name now

Aurora is a Completely Different Aircraft to the "Darkstar". Aurora probably existed, although not as advanced as people think, but is now retired. I Mean, Look at the A-12 Avenger II, That could be the aurora, it's very close to the sightings and has been nearly completed but government cut funding in the final phase of development, after sinking billions into it, So aurora is very probably just a further development of the A-12 Avenger II.

Aurora has pulse jets not scramjets like in the movie. You can put this off as Hollywood bullshit, but I don’t it is #1 the movie was generally really accurate and even skunkworks got involved. #2. The Aurora isn’t being sighted anymore, which either means it’s not being flown anymore, or radars can’t detect it. I’m guessing the first. And if this is the case the Aurora is already crossed out. #3 this has a striking resemblance to the sr-72 and remember based on sightings the Aurora was a triangle.

Did this model actually fly? The director stated in an interview that the takeoff scene that blew the roof off the guard station set was real. What aircraft was actually flying?
@BogeyTheBear
@BogeyTheBear 2 года назад
The actual aircraft used for the low-level pass was an F-18. The DarkStar was CG'd over it.

Okay everyone, cool your jets. The only thing that was real was the Non-working Model that was pulled out of the hanger. Everything else was either CGI or studio mockups. But you can fly the plane in MSFS 2020 flight simulator with the Maverick DLC.

Been using "DarkStar" as an nomenclature for something for over 12 years. It was awesome to see it used in the movie (unrelated to me, of course). Just hope everyone can avoid issues related to the name moving forward. :) -- Awesome prototype/Concept

The design is honestly very similar to the SR-72. Lot of similar design features that both these planes share. Its not real of course though, just a concept
@12time12
@12time12 2 года назад
It is real, there’s a photo of a similar looking plane parked inside a hangar at groom lake. Several journalists have also heard from sources (warzone and aviation weekly etc) that SR-72 was far along in development, that was 2017/2018 articles. The final piece of the puzzle is Iranian complaints about Mach 11+ flights over Natanz nuclear center. The pieces just add up, darkstar is a movie prop built off the design of a very real SR-72. 🙂

But I still have a question. How come with all the technical guidance by such esteemed SMEs. How come the Darkstar does the Mach Run in a Turn. Shouldn't it be accelerating to topspeed after the turn? 🙄

If anyone from Lockhead Martin's design team is watching this please develop the anti gravity craft from the wipeout game series :) On a serious note absolutely loved this film. Watched it while on vacation in England and saw it at one of those small local cinema's on a baking hot day two weeks ago. Had the most fun I've had in the cinema in the last few years. Last film that was this fun was probably the Gentlemen.
