Behind The Scenes of the Smashing Pumpkins Bullet With Butterfly Wings music video on MTV in 1995. I downloaded this video somewhere off RU-vid 10 years ago and it seems to have disappeared. so here it is, again.
@@monkeyliver1986 thanks snob. also machina 2 was downloadable or what ever,so I never saw that in stores nor knew about it till recently but I wasn't into machina one, though had two good songs.
A 28 track double album that should keep smashing pumpkins fans busy for quite a while. Well it's 2021 and I still jam that album like it came out yesterday
Got on dual cassette & then double CD. It’s not as good as the first two but neither disc has a lot a filler, I just can only handle so much of Corgan’s ego, which has calmed considerably.
@@Jnels27 Really? I heard they all collaborated on this one, with Darcy actually playing bass and Iha actually doing stuff on guitar, that's why Billy said he thought the recording of this one worked better than the first two albums because everybody pitched in.
@@benjaminfrankart4872 songs like xyu are the full band live recording, and the band worked on and had more democratic influence on the music than the first one but when they were tracking guitars and bass Billy still recorded almost all of it
Man I miss these days of Music TV, bands making videos actually worth watching, none of that youtube vevo crap and everything artists did meant so much more. Also this is the happiest I've ever seen D'arcy.. like ever on video.
preach. music videos were like mini movies, not stupid lyric videos that take 2 minutes on power point or whatever the fuck people use now. also, the shuriken is still drinking baby formula so don't listen to him. he'll never know what the good life was like.
nothing has changed. everything is exactly how it was back in 95 we just dont have cable boxes anymore. the internet became international cable and sections of youtube are just like MTV from back in the day. people need to get off this nostalgia kick it isnt healthy to constantly live in the past all the while being blind to the fact that everything is still the same as it was 25 years ago.
The CD of Mellon Collie was great. The artwork sleeve that came with it was cool AF. Kids today are missing out on how personal it was to buy a CD 💿 and read the lyrics and check out the artwork. That was just as cool as getting the music. Now they click a button on their device. Nothing personal about that. It's sad that shit is gone. 90's & 2000's were great.
YES...I saw them during their Mellon Collie tour!!!...those were some great days...no one had a phone up recording anything: we were immersed in the show/moment....
Agree! After reading this I dug through some boxes and looked at the artwork on my copy of Mellon collie album for the first time probably in over 20 years, it IS really cool and beautiful artwork. That was one of my favorite things about albums back in the day, reading the lyrics and notes in the albums sleeve while listening to it. I remember being disappointed when I'd buy a new cd or cassette as a teen and it would have little to no artwork, or lyrics included.
I was just out of high school in 95 when this was filmed where I live. I recall knowing a few people that got into the video. I’d like to go back to those times for sure, you can have 2022.
Same here man, I'd give up all this internet bs (although it existed in it's infancy then) and especially devices/everything requiring an app, to go back to those days. Best time to be alive was around '86 to '96 I think.
@@asdf9890 Completely agree, I was 12 about to turn 13 when this aired, in fact I'm pretty sure I received the Mellon Collie album for my 13th birthday. I'd go back in a heartbeat to relive those days again and probably just keep reliving them in an endless loop forever. I'd probably pick 1987 till about January 1st 2000 to just keep reliving. Perhaps it'd get boring after awhile, but I doubt it plus anything, even boredom would beat living through the 2020s.
They were so totally down to earth and chill. I remember this interview when it came out and just thinking how normal and accessible they seemed, especially for a band that made such moody and artistic music. I miss this era so much.
Billy Corgan is known as a controlling tyrant, Jimmy Chamberlain raged on hard drugs, and the band was almost constantly fighting. The Smashing Pumpkins were the opposite of down to earth and chill. The band was (and is) a pressure cooker and it's blown up several times, all due to the fact that they are NOT down to earth and chill (primarily Billy). Great band, but not a happy-go-lucky group, that's for sure.
It's so easy to forget how abruptly Billy Corgan adopted his trademark shaved head. I remember that video airing concurrently with 1979 and Tonight, Tonight
Who just wishes they had the power to jump through a screen and be back in the 80s & 90s again?? The movies, music, fashion, MTV and no cell phones and social media. Before 9/11 and only knowing your friends and family opinions about everything.
The 90s were the best decade to be young and free. No internet and social media and no smartphones. Just get in your car and drive for hours, sometimes days incommunicado. Landlines, letters, magazines, newspapers and TV was the only way you could find out what's going on. You actually valued meeting real people and having experiences together. Not like now where everyone is staring at their screens reading notifications from social media not engaging with real life but a virtual reality of virtual friends. The music today is also rubbish.
@@MorrisB1971 I loved both the 80s and 90s. Being a teenager in the 80s and then coming of age in the 90s. Sadly the world took a turn for the worst in 2001. But looking back through the sands of time we took the wrong step years ago by allowing our world to be controlled by the people who issue money. The money system is totally corrupt and the media they own which pushes a false narrative. The good news is though there is an awakening when people are starting to see thru their BS.
"Hole can have a strip mall." LMAO *helps Courtney Love write some songs for Celebrity Skin 3 years later* *picks Melissa Auf der Maur for touring bassist 5 years later*
@@hanajinks1044 YO whatever mistakes she`s made since doesn't change the fact that i had a crush on her and i love that she plays bass, super hot goth in the bullet with butterfly wings and so cute and natural in 1979 oh and don`t forget beauty is in the eye of the beholder
So many excellent bands that we were hearing back then. From your English bands like the verve , s*m*a*s*h these animal men the charlatans to sonic youth, weezer greendays dookie. Punk rock and independent music was flourishing
I remember being a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan by age 10 and I had my own band but it was a struggle to write songs I still have writers block 26 years later.
@@alukuhito didn't seem pretentious at all, in fact easily the least pretentious member of the band. super down to earth. nothing happened to her, she's fine. i agree tho, best for everyone to leave her alone.
I love that video I’m a huge Pumpkin fan Play a Corgin Strat live there sound It’s great to See Sam in his art mode He’s a director with the greatest art director connective bond that makes it on film Always stunning! Seeing the band laid back confronting a commercial success and the demands of a massive new album band goofy and having a good shoot With Sam at the helm the project was a smashing success
0:35 and that's why Billy shaved his head the following month after the filming of this video. He clearly was aggressively going bald on top. Here is an interview of him from a mere 6 months earlier. It was already thinning (diffuse thinning) but not as bad: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SikKILK4xEI.html
I've long suspected this of Billy. I saw the Stern interview and raised a brow as well. Yet...who honestly cares? It's a little embarrassing going bald and at such a young age. This and the fact that Billy was on the cusp of rock, super stardom and yeah....cut him a little slack. If he wants to run with a "shave the vanity away" as a cover for his insecurities...just let it be. Jesus....the richest man in the world is bald....no fame or money can solve it. Boys...and ladies, in some cases...it's a natural, human thing and not one that many of us celebrate. Let it be. He looks pretty good bald.
@RockMeAmadeus Nah, if you start going bald at a young age those hair transplants quickly lose their effect and start looking really bad, really fast. Now, if you are thinning out in your late-30s or so then I agree they can look good. But Billy was only late-20s and it was going fast. I think he died his hair jet black and started combing it over a bit to disguise it but after a little while thought "fuck it".
@RockMeAmadeus Money can't solve it. That's why Bezos looks like Lex Luthor. That's why Donald Trump has a terrible comb-over. That's why Elton John and Maynard James Keenan wear wigs. That's why LeBron James has to glue patches of brillow pads to his head and why Joe Rogan has surgical scars on the back of his from failed hair transplants. It doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, once you start losing it it's gonna go.
@@SobridMusic If, and I emphasize *IF*, you catch it quickly enough, you can control the balding process with Minoxidil. It basically stops your hair from falling out. But, it's an expensive lifetime commitment, the side effects can be rough, and if you don't use it every day you'll lose your hair.
I mean they got along more than most bands and people. Darcy did work on five major label albums, one being a double album. As well as four major tours, and everything in between (demos, smaller gigs, unreleased material, record signings, press interviews etc). Most people and people who play music ditch each other at the very first disagreement.
Back in the day when artists could write, play their instruments and actually sing their own songs… even live. I miss those days. Music sucks so much now🙃
legends...but did i misunderstand..or were they doggin the xtras for rollin in the mud....dude...u guys rock...to be in a video during that time...almost anything fans are loyal
The corniest thing I saw in my life was Corgan at a poetry reading. Not only did he pretend to be Lebowski, he started to cry about Beck. The cringe still hits home.
when he still had hair and hopes and dreams. there is evidence of his hair receding though and with it his youthful optimism like every other balding man.
