Johan, Matt, and the guys at the Performance Center don't fool around! Amazing! I've been along for the ride on a few hot laps with Johan in the previous gen M5, he's a magician! True story- after years as a BMW owner and fan I had a brief love affair with an AMG C63. In 2015, after a frustrating track night of limp mode in the AMG, Johan told me to trade it for the new M4 and I'd never have that problem again. After I bought the M4, I went back to the Performance Center and he showed me how to get the most of it. Full service instructor/race car driver! Really happy for all the guys involved, this is very cool. Congratulations!

WOW O WOW!!! That is 8 hrs of spectacular driving. Most ppl can’t even drive 2 hrs straight, without their leg or feet falling asleep, using the washroom, eating drinking etc... That is some skill sir, my hats off to ya 👍👍

Great job BMW, Johan and all the folks involved in this project..... very well thought out and superbly executed. More than one record set there, longest wet drift, refueling while in a wheel spinning drift and over an hour of tandem drifting. Outstanding......Side note. I wish to thank Johan for his input regarding my search for a fun roadster. He took the time to tell me all about BMW’s Z4 roadster. Explaining how well the car handled and the options BMW placed in that car to enable the driver to select its drive personality.Well it is all he said and more... it is a very quick car, handles flawlessly and precisely and is quite comfortable on a long trip. Yet another bonus is the gas mileage on a road trip.... I got 31.5 mpg on a trip from Western Ma to the Mid Ohio race track and I was not driving slow ..Once again Thank You Johan and of course Thank you BMW for putting together such a fine Touring Roadster...👍🏼

Why not just drift an i8 instead? Build a wire on top of the circular track and have a wire from the i8 always plugged in so it has infinite range, so instead of refuelling you change drivers, tired driver jumps off while a fully rested driver jumps into the drifting M5 from the 2nd M5, maybe strip down an i8, remove the gas engine and batteries, it doesn't need batteries because its always plugged in, so its lightweight enough for the electric motor to drift it, then you can have infinite drift instead of just 8 hours, set a CRAZY record of an i8 drifting non stop for like 1 month straight, 720 hours all time absolute super record

Would have been easier for the refueler M5 to be Right-hand-drive that way he could judge the distance more easily

at 3rd refill at 5:03 the car stopped drifting for a very short time, so technically its not an continous drift :-(

What this video also shows... if you have the previous M5, the new one looks so identical you won't feel in a rush to buy the new one.
