Bit weird how politicians and journalists are saying that we might get rid of tanks because there’s no need for them. Despite the fact that we’re constantly doing exercises like this that require tanks and armour.
It's because we still bloody need them I don't understand what hackers are going to do against IS a non uniformed army of terrorists with almost no technology the most they could do is sabotage communications between IS members but I'm fairly sure that's already being done, where as an MBT or the IFV's that the British army own can physically protect the troops +as old as chally's equipment is it is still the most accurate tank in the world and the one with the longest practical range
It's just the bean counters getting a reason lined up to excuse the further decimation of our armed forces - forcing us to hide behind America's skirts and hope for their eternal charity.
@@threeleafclover6003 Agreed, the only thing that will beat IS in the end is (in addition to mass censorship of IS propaganda and permanently locking up recruiters) is lead-based and HE-based justice.
They are now using unmanned tanks in Estonia, because of the lack of soldiers and because the normal tanks are just too expensive, and can easily be taken out by a Carl Gustav or a Javelin. So a unmanned tank is statistically and economicaly better, making normal tanks obsolete.
I was a radio operator in a special squad of HQ/COM unit of Estonia troops that was attached to QRH when this was filmed. British troopers are awesome and it was very enjoyable to help them out with mundane communications.
Thanks to all you guys. Have had exercises in Tapa with Brits and French, we have learned a lot from them and they are keeping open mind learning a bit from small Estonia too. These kind of videos also just help to show the human side of all this, instead of just "another few thousand of "foreign" troops are dicking around in our forests".
They have no simulators so the guy firing the rifle was simulating the NLAW. Otherwise the tank would have just kept on driving. Source: been there done that :)
@@Jaarne_ I was taking the piss, but it is interesting to hear that there isn't a training NLAW that has functionality to simulate a hit, and the SA-80 does.
@@cswpartridge NLAW does have a training variant (Short Range & Field Trainer). It has laser firing pulse for use with a vehicle mounted retro reflector and a Flash Bang Smoke simulator to simulate missile launch signature. It also records the engagement for off-line review of gunner performance.
@@cswpartridge They both have TES attachments/systems, but tend to not get used in those environments, FIWAF etc. Lasers don't do well with too much foliage, I also don't think there are enough out there for the shear amount needed for the Estonian style Wargames, and maybe the Estonians don't like em. So in Wargames like this they just use sort of 'umpires' to judge(the blue dudes). So here the rifle just lets them know they've fired the NLAW, so the umpires know who to kill or neutralize and apply points accordingly. Not that you ever get to know how you did where most of the time. We used to have to do the same thing even with GPMGs cause at one stage they brought in REALLY quiet blank adapters no one knew they were getting shot :D
@@Aussenluft We do. It makes sense that standard estonian camo is better for estonian terrait but the British army operates all around the world so its better for us to have a camo that is effective in multiple climates around the world.
@@julianusvictor327 What an Bullshit. Multicam dosn't work around the Globe. In Germany we have three Patterns - and each is working better in his specific environment than MC.
@@Aussenluft we used to have multiple uniforms for different terrains but they decided to get rid of them and opt for the multi terrain pattern. Probably to save money.
Can I just say, it seems like you guys & girls are have massively stepped up the production value of these videos compared to the previous BFBS content and it really shows! These videos are great. The quality is amazing and the content you show is really interesting. Keep up the good work!

For anyone concerned about the armour being axed, it will never go through. The old defence minister suggested it and then resigned shortly after. Armour is here to stay 🇬🇧
swansea007791 They won’t be able to upgrade the model yet, but I was talking more so about the armour being axed rumour, they will just sit with the 120 mm for now
UK armour is the most heavily invested section of the army currently with 23 billion being pumped in - including a new Challenger programme/upgrade package. 2020-30 will see armour still.
Respect from 🇮🇪. Our nations had a very bad start but at least the Irish army and the British army are training together and serving overseas together in places like Mali and previously in Kosvo, Bosnia, afghan and other countries
that was written into the scenario of that manoeuvre ...taking that bridge was their main objective and who knows ..they might be there even today if they hadn`t achieved that ..all im saying is that, it was meant to happen as it did.
its crazy how planning takes hours and then all the action would be done in a matter of minutes which makes the frontline shift constantly. would be pretty hard to plan right.
In battle the first casualty of war is the plan. This is why the British Army is one of the best, it creates thinking soldiers, as the plan goes up in smoke after the first shot.
Estonian winter feels like a summertime for Brits, thats why they feel like home here. But seriously talking, was really enjoyable video, it's nice to see British here again helping to protect our small nation, even if we're very far from each other on the map, then sharing the same values it actually feels were pretty much the same.
The last time I rember when I was in London, then the city shut down with 2 mm of snow in the winter, while in Estonia you can in some places get more than a meter of snow in the winter, (and in the summer too, it has happened before sometimes).
The Biritsh winter average is 4.4 °C. In Scotland which is the Northern-most point winters average 0 °C. In Estonia winter average is about -2.6 °C so no Estonian weather is colder.
My grandma's house is only 1-2 km from Tapa army base. When I was a kids, Soviet soldier's were stationed at the base. Every once in awhile the Soviet officers came by to see if grandma and grandpa has some vodka in the house. They always did. My sister and I always hid in the bushes on our way to grandma's when convoy of soldier drove by.
Wow im startled this came in my reccomendations. I was in Estonia this summer and got to talk and see some of the British army soldiers. Very interesting stuff.
i have spent countless nights and days sleepless cold, hungry and wet in that training area during my 8 years of service in Scouts. I kinda miss that "lousy life"

A good way to describe Estonian whether is like this: One winter I went skiing in Northern top of Sweden and -18°C or something felt pretty good, while -20°C in Estonia felt more like -40°C, with my whole face freezing up. Then in the summer I went to Bulgaria where it was +34°C and I didn't even really sweat, but when I came back to Estonia, near the Haapsalu region, +30°C felt like I was going to smelt away, with me swetting litterly liters of swet a day, having to carrying all the time with me a liter of water.

UK needs a new set of politicians so we can have people that actually want to fully support, invest and enlarge are forces all around the world with better numbers, equipment and tactics instead of all this he says she says sitting in an office cutting shit back.
In developing countries like in africa and asia these things don't affect anyone in europe but when these things start happening in europe everything is gonna change due to modernized militaries and europe being far ahead of different continents. The wars are gonna reach everyone in their daily lives.
Some caveats: Estonia is not Eastern Europe. Even by UN declaration we've been assigned as Nordic country, thou Denmark and Sweden have some bizarre reservation. Most vocal are the Finns. But we are Nordic country and in Northern Europe. We would we appreciate it the Brits would have taken this to account and started to properly refer.
That is just a matter of definition. Most in Finland would say that Estonia is a Baltic country with a Finnic people, which would be technically true. Finland is usually counted as a Nordic but not a Scandinavian country, which is also a source of regular confusion even though it is true as those words are not synonymous.
Noone in the worlds thinks this, only Estonians. We're seen as part of Eastern Europe becuase we're next to Russia (i.e in East geographically) and we were part of the Soviet Union and the Russan Emprie before that (thus politically). You can't change this. The only way anyone's ever going to see us as 'Nordic' is if we actually become as economically successful as Sweden/Finland etc as well as adopt their democratic social values. But even then it's tricky. And we are far from being like Nordic countries. We're still poor, bigoted, corrupt, narrow minded, not much better that the scummy russians. The point is, you can't change other people's perception of your country by telling them off or by begging. By doing so you're just making yoursel and the entire country look pathetic - and even more Eastern European. So suck it up. (Ps. I'm an Estonian abroad, I know what people think and how this looks).
@@felixtg3834 because the real Estonias are not really like he is on RU-vid, you could say that people think that Arthur is more of embarrassing the Estonian people rather than promoting them. And some stuff he says is not up to date anymore, it can be because he lives so far from Estonia that he is not totally aware anymore how life in the military and civil sector is in Estonia.
How do they simulate attacks and decide who is the winner when in a real situation many of them could have been hit by bullets before they even advance?
There are judges, and in most cases the one who win are decided basicly beforehand, depending on which side has more of tanks or soldiers or so on. There can be some shots fired and then a judge next to you can just basicly say that you have been hit or killed or something.
@@kalx007 Do your research. Nordic countries are a geographical and cultural region of Norther Europe and North Atlantic. Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Again its a cultural region. Estonia have never been part of nordic group but at current rate it will definetly be a part of Nordic group. Its considered more a Baltic country.
I highly doubt that they are firing blanks, as the hot blast of air coming from the barrel still has the potential to seriously hurt or even kill someone so I believe that blanks would still be to dangerous.
@Raj Maj I never claimed that they where in fact as dangerous as live ammo, just that blanks can still lead to injuries and potential death. Therefore comparing it to live ammo is ridiculous, as it would be like saying that a tank is more dangerous than a knife as it is true though a knife can still cause serious damage.
@@erlend6338 Well I hope, that this relinquishes your doubts : io9.gizmodo.com/why-a-gun-loaded-with-blanks-can-still-kill-you-5972313 . Just so you know, there are 16 other articles just like this one !
@Raj Maj Firstly, I never claimed to be an experienced marksman, in fact I have only used a gun a few times. Secondly, if you read the aforementioned article you would know, that you can die from blanks and in fact quite a few people have. Try to avoid mockery and your idea of irony, as this is indeed quite a serious matter which can result in death, despite your refusal to believe so.
