Behind the scenes with the Household Cavalry on Coronation Day

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment played a key role in the coronation, accompanying the Royal coaches from Buckingham Palace and along The Mall.
With the regiment up at the crack of dawn with three hours to get 171 horses and riders fit for a King, Forces News received behind-the-scenes access to the early-morning preparations at Hyde Park Barracks.
As the video above shows, the horses had to be exercised to get rid of any over-exuberance, with the stress and excitement of the day spreading from rider to noble steed.

It's amazing how these everyday Soldiers when changed into their ceremonial dress. They cease to be individual,s. They transform into something completely different. Well done everyone involved. Those of you that was on show & those who wasn't.

The Household Cavalry put on an excellent show! All the training, blinders on horses, they are still animals afterall. The 1 mis step, no big deal, he had it under control! Yes the idiots out to spook the horses, arrest them & sentence them to shovel the stalls!

This has got me baffled. I expected the horses to be all walking in tight formation n mirroring each other but it all looked a right mess. Hardly any of the riders seemed to be in control n the horses were all over the place. Shameful when considering how much money is spent on training and looking after them
