Behind The Vinyl: "Try" with Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo 

I heard that song as a kid and thought…. If I could ever write a song that good I’d stop cause it’s perfect! I still feel that way.

Grew up 10 min from Canadian border & radio, Buffalo NY-USA. Heard "Try" upon release. Went to see them shortly after at a place called 'Front 54' in Thorold ON. Clearly recall the keyboard player was playing like Jerry Lee Lewis & band rocked like crazy! Fan ever since!

My wife has acclimated me to lots of Canadian artists and their music--Blue Rodeo's one of them. :)

It's so awesome to hear these stories. When this song came out, I was a teenager living in Edmonton. I'd always hear this song on the radio and the video was always played on everything from MuchMusic to Video Hits to Good Rockin' Tonite. At the time, I thought Blue Rodeo were these massively successful rock stars because of all the frequent airplay and because they were in Toronto. So cool to hear how they were just struggling musicians in awe of the reaction fans had to their music.

I consider this Canada's greatest song.

Great song...Great Band! Had the privilege of working for them several time when I was living in Toronto,

Now that he mentions Spandau Ballet's True I can hear the influence in the song.

Same year that another very unusual song "With Or Without You" kinda JUMPED out of the radio. I was 15 and loved rock, pop, and all of this unusual stuff happening.

I still remember hearing this for the first time in the fall of "87; it was so different than anything out there. As to the vinyl, which was out of favour by then, I didn't have a CD player then, and , at my brother's wedding in Toronto, I heard my first CD, "Outskirts" at the home of his now former in-laws.

This song try was one of the first songs that I actually got to slow dance with a really nice girl back in grade 7 or 8? I can't which one so thank you blue rudeo for getting me some action instead of sitting on the bench in the gym waiting for a girl to Ask me for a dance lol

Amazing song. I just thought to myself, does Jim look a little bit like Wayne Gretzky there ?

I love how the narrow overhead light cast shadows on the guests face so you can see every pock-mark, wrinkle, wart and pimple. Im sure whoever is doing this is very arty. Maybe they should try and use a pen light for even more stark contrast and all we'll see are the bony protrusions coming out of the face and just guess who person talking is.
