It's here!! The first 2023 PAINT COLOR OF THE YEAR has been announced by BEHR PAINT and it is SHOCKING!! (So NOT CLICKBAIT!)
I look forward to this day every single year! Each Fall the paint companies announce the color of the year for the upcoming year and I admit, I hold my breath while they make the announcement. This year BEHR is the first to announce their new color and I could not be more pleased with their choice of Blank Canvas. The color is a perfect warm white and will work for both the exterior and interior of the home. I could see myself using this in a dining room, living room, bathroom, bedroom or office... so basically, anywhere! It's a great color to work with and truly versatile. I've already designed a few mood boards that you can use to inspire a new room design.

Although I'm not opposed to anyone using colors on their walls like greens, etc. in their homes, I have always opted to stay with white walls. I just find it refreshing and it works with everything. Thanks for your great video once again Valentina, and your infectious positive energy!

I live in Central Europe, it's normal here to have white walls, I'd say 8 out of 10 homes have white walls, mine too. I combine it with dark grey, wood, black, gold, beige and green plants, I learned these tipps from you, Valentina! The homes here are so much smaller than American standards and white walls make the space look bigger and brighter. The other reason is, when you sell your home the new owner will have a blank canvas and can do their own style. One more reason is that white walls are easy to repair, you don't have to paint the whole wall completely. Financial reasons are that it cost much less to change the accessoires than paint the walls in a new color every few years, if you want to change your style. I think white walls never go out of trend and are literally a blank canvas that you can use the way you want :)

I some times think about group psychology and what happened to American design from the eras when exuberant colors were the style to the present modern industrial style! Our homes are painted and furnished in what I call the office\industrial look! Valentina's home looks very similar to the posh executive offices of my employer company! What happened to our esthetic sensibility when our hospital walls are painted in colors and our homes are painted in white? I watched Downtown Abbey and was astonished at the beautiful the wall colors! I have subscribed to British decorating magazines where there still is use of color besides shades of white! I did not want to come home are stare during my prescious free time at the same colors and furniture style!

Thank you for the painting information. I work in the paint dept at a Home Depot. I love teaching people howto use the ultra pure white card under the color card they are looking at in order to see the color better and the dreaded undertone. Sandra's Dinwoodie...Is Blank Canvas a NEW color for Behr? I'm thinking it is as I have been looking at alot of Behr whites such as Shoelace, Cotton Knit and others but I can't recall having a color chip for Blank Canvas. I know she said it was Color of the Year but I didnt catch it if she said it was actually a new addition to the Behr white family. Regardless, it sounds like a good one. Thx!

Recently had the interior of my home painted with Sherwin Williams Snowdrift. It has made such a difference. Your design expertise helped me come to this choice. I recently painted my master bathroom BM White Dove and I absolutely LOVE it, very neutral and not yellow. I have a lot of antique oil landscape paintings and they look so pretty with this color background. I’m going to paint the rest of interior off white, so definitely looking into Blank Canvas.

All I can say, I love the white on white. Valentina, you are my inspiration to try all white. Always made me nervous. But I love it especial with wood accents and of course faux plants because I don't have enough direct sunlight to make for plants to thrive. Valentina, I am so pleased to see white as a color of the year 2023! I don’t usually care about trends but after 10 years of beige SW Kilim Beige , which I loved, I went white. After multiple swatches, I picked SW Shoji White and love it. It is warm, creamy and dreamy. It looks awesome in my open space living/dining room especially since I get a lot of natural light. It is all so beautiful.

Choosing the “right” white is very challenging. Very dependent on light exposure. We painted our home 3 shades of whites ….. majority spaces were an overlooked/unknown color: Bridal Lace by Behr. Stunning - and makes our warm woodwork absolutely pop!

We decided to go with white throughout the home earlier in the year....you add your colour & it throws a cast upwards tricking the eye to thinking you have colour on the wall! Change your colour decor & the reflection changes, sunny days through a different colour to dull moody days! I love it🙌

Thank you, Behr and Valentina! We are completely remodeling a 1980 FAS (factory-assembled home). For those who aren't familiar-on with the west coast, these are quite common and often cost as much as stick-built homes. I was going to go with Behr's Pale cornflower for our new guest bedroom, but this video convinced me that I truly needed a Blank Canvas! Not only for that room, but also for the adjoining black and white computer room, and for the retro mid-century guest bathroom we are installing. The guest bedroom and the guest bathroom both have dark blue features (one with navy and one with royal). I think the pale cornflower will now be the main color of the ceiling in the guest bath as well as the color of the base cabinets in my new kitchen. The top cabinets may just be Blank Canvas. :)

Whites can be hard. It's all about the undertone. I lived in a house for a while that had cool white walls with a green undertone and it felt so cold! Now I always do warm whites.

We are flipping a second house and I used behr silky white throughout the entire house to stay on the neutral side. I was starting to doubt the choice but after seeing this I’m so relieved!! I did have to work at warming it up but it can be done! I actually used brown woods and blacks and lots of wicker and plants. I used white dove in the last flip and I have used Swiss coffee (BM) in my own home and both are beautiful, but diff. Lighting can affect the undertones and make them appear cream so be sure to TEST first. I’m definitely going to check out this new color!

Good advice. I went with - what I thought - was a soft white, but because of the lighting in my living room and kitchen, it looks like it leans yellowish, and it bugs me. I used oil based paint on all the woodwork, so redoing it feels overwhelming to me. Wish I had tested first. smh

Love you. Love this video, love painting! The question I have is, I’m searching for a French white. It appears almost a slight pink and or grey at times. Perhaps it’s the plaster? Any suggestions? I'm from the Netherlands and we don't have Behr paints here. I'm planning to paint the interior of my house with PPG1075-1. Comparing the RGB values and LRV to Behr's Blank Canvas, they seem very similar, so I'm hopeful that my paint choice will be a good one too.

I LOVE it! Not all whites are the same! They have undertones that must be considered when choosing what white to use. Some are warm, some are cool, some reflect light more than others. So white is often overlooked by DIY decorators. I have my personal favorites: Rustoleum 2x spray paint in “Blossom White”, Sherwin Williams Origami, Behr White Dove, Rustoleum Chalk paint in Linen White, and finally Bright White!

Im not big on different colors from room to room so decided to go with Swiss coffee at 75%. It looks white in a north facing room but slightly warmer than stark white. I've always been a fan of blank canvas though.

I just painted an accent wall Pure Earth. It looks redder on the card than it dries- unless it gets direct sunlight. If not, it dries as a DARK taupe. I like it.

Ha! I feel like a designer! I painted my entire condo in BM White Dove. My trim is Behr Ultra White. It works! Light airy feeling and because my windows face north, it ads a little warmth to the space while keeping it a relaxing pallet. Very happy with how it turned out. I think Blank Canvas is beautiful and I'm going to use it in a bathroom remodel. I think my condo may be a mix of Scandanavian and Mid Century in Atlanta. I've introduced other friends to White Dove for walls and more people are doing it. I'll probably have half of Atlanta in White Dove at this rate. :) I also have a white sofa.

Wondering if your team has a preference for the different brands of paint. I don't mind painting with different brands buy it seems, over the years, the Benjamin Moore paints stay more true to the color and they paint on like pudding which is wonderful.

White walls😵‍💫 I can’t believe I am considering that! I just recently found your channel and was inspired by your black stair rail. I’ve had taupe on the walls for years and ready for something different. Blank Canvas it is!! My question…do you paint the trim the same color?🤔

It is fun to see how thrilled you are, that white is still being honored by Behr! I am sorry to say, I am not a fan of white walls…I know you love it. Where we can agree, I use soft rich whites as beautiful accessories against the soft linen toned walls. White walls on white is not my vibe…but many people do like it cause it is a no brainer for sure. Wonder about the other paint companies and what their choice of what the color of the year will be? This version of white is too antiseptic for my esthetic. I do love the rest of the palette however and this selection does show the colors on the whole are still moving toward warmer natural tones. They are a smart American company to lead with this popular neutral white and then follow up with colors that transition white interiors into the rest of the palette. You are right about white, is a classic and easy to work with..I just love it in smaller quantities 😀 Enjoy your videos!

The white that I have chosen to paint in my recent purchased home this year is alabaster from Lowe’s Sherwin-Williams collection. I started to paint one room and I have been using it in so many other areas of the home. Now my home did have one room paint it white and the trim was painted white in all of the rooms and the closest white I could find at Lowe’s to it was Swiss coffee, but now I’m wondering if the color of the year, blank canvas could be yet. I will have to check that out.

I just started painting my kitchen and went with Benjamin Moore Simply White because that seemed to be the choice white all over RU-vid. How does Blank Canvas compare? What finish do you prefer for walls, ceilings, and trim?

Im actually painting my house the same can be used on ceiling and trim also. Im using Chantilly White with the ceiling and trim though. 😉for my north facing entrance hallway which is rather dark
