I just saw the Proton. It looks pretty cool. To be honest, I think the Proton could do everything the Model D can plus more. Definitely has more options for patching
I do love my Model D, use it with my BeatStep Pro. I then just get a 16 or 32 step sequence going and tinker about until I've got something nice and save it. Then before I know it, I've got a nice bassline to work with. Secondhand, the model D is an absolute no braining. Feed that signal through some effects and it really starts to shine. I suppose we should be giving Moog the credit here, but I can't afford a Moog.
@@fatkev1983 I would have loved to own a Moog but it’s never gonna happen. If I did spend that sort of money on a synth, it would probably be the only one I would own
@@toyzintheattic I think I'd have to choose the Roland Jupiter 6. Not sure if both are in the same price range these days. I already got my original Roland JX3P ticked off the list but as far as vintage Roland synths go, its a "bargain". That and the Arturia Matrixbrute are my two most expensive synths, never gone over £1200. The rest have been budget and or bargains I've sourced second hand. Got an array of 80s and 90s trash I love. Casio HT6000 anyone?
SQ-1 about $80, can find Model D around 275/300, add some pedals you got a cool, simple, affordable setup, SQ-1 has some cool tricks up it's sleeve too
I find the same with all of the Behringer clones -- they can sound really amazing like this, but they really do need effects added to them to reach their potential!
You highlighted the real reason no one really needs a super high end synth these days - effects, they are cheap and plentiful. Back in the day, not the case at all and the synths really had to shine or you had to get clever with how you treated the signal... or pay a lot of money for an off the shelf effect.
I have seen it. My mate has the older version and that is pretty cool. I have all sorts of pedals from playing guitar. I moved away from multi effects units a few years ago
